I’d like to get one! After three years with a 6 plus the X would be perfect for me...but here in Germany it’s not exactly a thousand dollar phone, it’s 1340$ (1149€) which is too sick for me...(for now ; )

Luckily I am on Verizon, so I didn't pay $1000. It is spread over 24 months. Not to mention, with the Verizon Edge Up, I will be upgrading in 12 months. So technically I am only paying $500 + $60 (6% sales tax of $999).

$41 a month is less than what I pay for my internet; for something that I constantly touch and use every single day. Hell no, I do not regret it for one second. The only thing I may end up regretting is not getting the 256GB size, but like I said I upgrade yearly and didn't fill up my 128GB iPhone 7 so I am not toooooo worried about it.

One of the reasons I am returning the X is because I’m going to wait for the next generation (iPhone XS..XI.. whatever they call it). I remember how much of a difference there was in the first gen and second gen TouchID speed/reliability, and I’d imagine there’s going to be a similar significant performance upgrade in the next X revision.

But what about the one after that? I'd imagine there will be significant upgrades in the 2019 iPhone. Might want to hold out. In all seriousness, I get your point, but aren't most people on yearly upgrade plans anyway? Why not enjoy the X (I have zero flaws, fastest phone I've used) and then upgrade next year?

It might be different in the States but yearly upgrade programs are for the minority here. It doesn’t offer any incentive as the plans here are just double the cost of a 24 month plan so in effect you’re paying 2 years worth of contract in just 12 months.

Two year contracts are the most popular so the guy you quoted may be right to hold off a year otherwise they are keeping the X an extra year knowing it doesn’t have all the bugs ironed out.

??? Seriously? It's nothing at all like an Android. I've used both since the start and I'm on iOS for my daily now because it's so more intuitive a mobile OS than Android. Android's come a LONG way in the last 5 years..but it ain't no iOS.

I said Android phones, e.g Samsung Galaxy.. Not the software.

Obviously the software is nothing alike otherwise I wouldn't of said "with iOS"

What I meant was most android phones have had features for years that Apple are only now bringing out. Water resistance has only been out just over a year with iPhone 7. Fast charging. Wireless charging. OLED screen. Etc

Features like this combined with iOS makes it the perfect phone for me.

Makes sense. I always forget about people in other countries. Typical American :)

If I was broke and only bought it because I was able to finance it, and had to trade in my 8+ that’s 3 months old, yeah I would regret it. But since this is my phone till 2019, I don’t.

But if you couldn't afford it why bother getting the 8+ lol

True but people are upgrading more now because if they can afford 20 or 30 a month for two years they will buy a new phone even when the old one is perfect. Over the years flagship phones have been going up in pricing because of this. On T-Mobile Reddit some were mad at the though of having to put down a deposit for the X.

Yeah thats Apples plan though lol. I'll probably stay with the iPhone X for a good couple of years now though

Understood now. But actually you just said "Android" - not "Android phones"..

That's why I took it the way I did. Android, the name, refers to a mobile OS type and not a particular phone hardware type - though in our daily talking - I think people do mix that up.

Gotcha now. And I agree.

But to be clear many things about the iPhone X are not borrowed.. like FaceID, etc.

I left Apple for a while. Been waiting for this qhd screen. Hated the screen on the 6s.

Yeah they took their time updating the screens

They didn’t want to put down a deposit because they were on Jump On Demand. With JOD you’re able to upgrade once a month so if you put down a deposit for the X then jump to a new phone, that deposit is gone and you’ll be paying another deposit for the phone you’re jumping to. Some were able to get the X without a deposit, so that’s why paying the deposit was a big deal.

I would say people are actually upgrading less frequently now in many countries due to smartphones not differing enough year on year. We are in an era now where a phone can be kept for 3 to 4 years if needed and supported throughout its life. It’s actually be reported that in the UK and Europe people are not upgrading after 24 months as frequently as a few years ago. The rising price has played a major role in this trend too.

If we could pick the X up on a 24 month contract for 20 or 30 quid a month, we’d be upgrading as much as ever. When the cheapest iPhone X contract is £56 p/m ($73) with an upfront cost of £549 ($719), it’s not offering a great incentive to upgrade yearly anymore.

I’m talking about America.
