That's a quite impressive plan you got there. I am from Switzerland and our plans are pretty bad, in the sense that you always pay the phone on top if you wanna get it from the carrier. It's never included in any way. So what you get is a payment of the full phone price over 24 months in installments, which usually includes a tax on top. So it's just a way of not paying everything up front. But in the end, you end up paying the same, if not a bit more.

Regarding myself, I happen to work for a mobile phone carrier so I get the subscription for free so I agree I'm probably not an average user.

Here you do indeed pay the cost of the phone but the monthly data plan works out at £7 a month for 24 months on those examples I shared. You’d struggle to get sim only plans these days with that much data for less than that so it’s not a bad deal. I didn’t upgrade this year personally and may do next year.

The 15's feel so much better without a case...

The colorway also looks better naked against the AW Ultra 1&2. I used the new phone without a case at home, but put on a Clay Silicon case when leaving for the first few days until my PopSocket MagSafe came. I like the added grip for one-handed, on-the-move use of the phone. So maybe I can't say it is full-on naked...

This new iteration is great, more minimalist than the previous version and super strong magnets. Color options not great, but clear seemed to be the best option for the Raw Titanium phone.

I like how you are holding the phone over that cushy chair, and not the hard marble floor..... just in case... ;)

I guess I just don't see a scam.

I've been with T-Mobile for eight years. In that time, under monthly payments, I have bought several devices. They show the total price and your monthly payments, plus final payment when you start the plan. It's a 0% interest 'loan' and sometimes requires a down payment.

Doesn't change.

I don't chase promos and we've been using the SIM cards issued to us in 2015. If I add lines I go to eBay and buy a $3 SIM card and then have T-Force activate it. Technically, I could just ask Apple, Best Buy or Target for a free SIM if I wanted to.
The SCAM is you end up paying for a much more expensive plan than you would otherwise, by at least $20 Per line. I guarantee the provider isn’t losing money on getting you a newer phone.

Huh?

I'm on the same plan I've been on since 2015 when I ported to my current carrier. If you mean promos are a scam because the carrier makes you get a more expensive plan, then yeah, ok.

But I don't chase promos. I buy when I want and stay on my original plan.

With my local carriers, they often pull this trick where the offer is only available with newer/active plans. So people are forced to move to that new plan to be eligible for the devices at financing or subsidized prices.

I'm with T-Mobile. But I did 16 years with Sprint and that taught me to protect myself against business.

This type of thing where you chase a promo, but have to add a line or change your plan, or give up your firstborn, I don't follow. My eight year old grandfathered plan IS my promo. I'm getting a lower rate than new customers or people who jump to the new plans.

I just pay full price for a phone. But it's on monthly payments so it's easier to handle.

The thing is though, that because I don't participate in promos and pay full price for devices, I can upgrade a device whenever I want. I just have to pay whatever downpayment (usually just the tax) is required. I'm not waiting for a promo to get a discount on a phone.

And I am not sacrificing my plan to a promo.

I’ve been using a case on my iPhone X for years, mainly because I needed it to mount the phone magnetically in the car. I ordered the 15 pro and thinking about going sans case.. as long as it can mount on its own which I’m not sure.

The cost to replace the back dropped from $500 to $169, so it’s not as huge a deal anymore, and it has a strong glass front. I noticed that my iPhone X has been scratched up on the sides from the case over time. I’ve dropped it indoors mainly.. I’ll just be more careful

Just reading above.. I agree most carrier promos are indeed a scam, especially the ones requiring a trade-in. I used a good promo from xfinity tho which took $400 off without trade in and with no downside other than being "stuck" with them for 2 years and the phone being locked til paid off.

I was disappointed that this year T-Mobile (US) is playing hardball with those of us on legacy plans. I too just bought a phone outright and will continue to enjoy paying around $100 US for 4 phone lines plus a watch line.

For about a year after I ported over from Sprint I paid attention to what promos were being offered, but at the time I wasn't prepared to jump on anything. I did inquire about a free line in late 2016 because I had added a line and a new device. But the promo for that free line was over at the time I asked.

Somehow, just by the asking though, a month later my new line became free. That's the only 'promo' I've ever asked about and received - although I was told 'no'. SMH.

I upgrade when I want to upgrade and if there are no promos then I just upgrade. I don't wait around for that. And eventually all the promos I started seeing either didn't include Simple Choice, or required me to upgrade my plan. Eventually, I just stopped paying attention and I don't seek any promos now because I know the score.

That's fine, no promo. I just pay a lower rate for service each month.

I have not used a case before my 15 Pro. Cases make phones more bulky, and harder to carry in a pocket. I put grip tape on my last two phones (6 Max, and XS) because they were so slick.

I put my 15 Pro in a FineWoven case because the camera protrusion is off center. With the phone laying on a table top the device wiggles and wobbles when typing. The case cures that.

The case is inconvenient because of the bulk, and I really do not like the ridge at the bottom of the device when I swipe up. If I can come up with a more compact solution I’ll get rid of the case.

I use a moft wallet because of the stand as I don’t use the wallet portion. It solves the camera bump issue if you go case/less like I do. It comes on/off with ease and can get the color you want.

Not associated with them by any means just a user since 14PM and now 15PM as I go case-less.

I do use a case but I don’t have a screen protector yet. Of course I now have 3 scratches close together. I must have put it in my pocket with my keys at some point. RIP. This is really going to bother me for the next year 😂 I’m hoping a screen protector will diminish the obviousness of the scratches.

Yeah that my biggest problem. Always a screen protector. Can do with scratches on the back fine.

I guess I must be different? I don't use cases, but I also don't put my phone in the same pocket as keys or other metal objects. My phone goes in the back left pocket, change goes in the front left pocket (should I have any at all), my pocket knife and a small, square pewter souvenir from my son that I always carry goes in my right front pocket. The knife has a clip so it's not entirely in the pocket. My wallet is a Ridge wallet and that goes in the right side pocket. With Dickies carpenter shorts and pants that's close to my thigh. Keys are on a clip attached to my right side belt loop.

So, ultimately, my phone is in a pocket by itself. I put it in upside down so lint and debris does not get into the lightning port. That also makes it easier to answer calls and texts as it gets drawn out right side up. So far, the only scratches I've ever gotten were with my iPhone 5 and that was long before I started wearing Dickies.

PS. I don't sit on it in the car. It goes in the cupholder.

I scratched my iPhone 12 when I had no screen protector for a week. I was waiting for it to come and I ended up with a very small, probably 5mm scratch on the screen. It didn’t go in a pocket with anything and I am certain if that, but when there are jeans with rivets near the pockets or the potential for grains of sand inside, it’s always possible.

iPhone screens are very soft in regard to the coating. They have gotten harder to crack, but that price comes with the issue of being easier to scratch. I’d never go without a screen protector as it would annoy me to see the scratches slowly build up. The good thing about modern screen protectors is they are practically invisible and you wouldn’t realise they are there. I can’t see an advantage of not using one these days unless the individual likes the worn look maybe.

I recently bought a 6 Plus off eBay and this was actually one of the things I was looking for. It's got a very small ding on the back and you can tell that whomever had it last has a screen protector on it for quite some time. No scratches that I can detect and aside from the ding it's cosmetically pretty good (screen intact). My intent is for it to be a 'beater' phone. It's unlocked and I've already tried my SIM card in it and it works.

But overall it does have that 'worn' look.

Yeah, when we get paid next I’m going to drop the $40 and have the Apple Store apply it for me. The only time I tried applying a screen protector on something was when the Sony PSP first came out and the results were… not good lol

I always either get a Spigen tempered glass one or the ESR and both come with the kit with a template. They are easy to apply and you can’t really get it wrong. They are usually about £15 so worth considering.
