But is there any proof that things do get better after 4-6 months? In my experience, this isn't the case but that's my opinion
Were the iPads you bought 4-6 months after release NEW units or refurbs? Buying a refurb 4-6 months after release is like buying a new one on day 1. :)

Since Apple doesn't offer any manufacturing reports, there is no "proof" other than anecdotal evidence. Of all the iPads that I've purchased since day-1 of gen-1, I have yet to have one with backlight bleeding, dust under the screen, uneven colors, etc. All but the first (pre-ordered) were bought 4-6 months after they were released.

That's only about a dozen iPads or so and clearly statistically insignificant. But it is my first-hand experience.

I haven't seen anyone posting complaints about their newly purchased iPad screens 6 months after release, and certainly not returning 3, 4, 5 or more times to get a good screen.

That's fair enough. I'm just wondering whether there's also a case of no-one posting about issues 4-6 months down the line after a product is launched as it's not new anymore. Also, the majority of us on this forum are on the bleeding edge and preorder, so make more noise around a launch.

It happens to me every time I buy a apple product with a display

Thankfully this is the first time since the iPad 3/Mini Gen 1 that I've had a fantastic panel straight off the bat.

I bought mbp couple months after the launch and the screen is slightly brighter(yellow?) on the right... so it's always a lottery for me. I agree, we are on the edge here when these fresh devices are totally new and the sales as on the peak. Look how many they are selling and how little post are here, so we will be lucky if someone will report about his display in couple months...

Correct. What I find puzzling is that in spite of this being a regular occurrence with a new gen of devices that more people don't wait a few months (4-6) for things to clear up. Is it really worth the hassle of exchanging it 2, 3, even 10 times?

I’ve seen posts with people getting unsatisfactory screens months after launch. It’s a screen lottery however long you wait.

The one fact none of us can escape is simple, Apple has no quality control whatsoever, its become quite obvious this many years in with this level of issues.

Their contractors throw them in the box (sometimes it literally looks like they did) and hope for the best when the units end up in the consumers hands.

I only hang on due to the Apple software, but Apple is seriously testing my limits.

The issues have NOTHING to do with how long you wait. I have bought products at the end of their life cycle and still had screen issues. Apple has awful quality control, period. Returning the two 2017 iPads I purchased and received today. One had a bunch of dust under the glass, the other 3 dead pixels.

What do you guys think of mine? Is it a keeper? Home button is on bottom - full brightness and true tone is off

Seeing good screens gives me hope, only to be crushed again when the next unit arrives. I'm really not feeling the optimism about tomorrow's replacement :(

If people are really going to get a bunch of internet strangers to judge a photo of their screen and decide if it's acceptable to them or not, then perhaps a few recommendations....

a) Take the photo head-on... any angle is going to distort the colours/tint
b) perhaps crop your photo so no-one can see which orientation the screen is at with respect to the home button, so people don't automatically judge the home button side to be tinted.
c) Just don't do it.... why do it, do you judge every life decision on the recommendations of others? Move on....

I don't think it's a matter of just 'moving on'

I know there's more to life than looking closely at a screen to see if their iPad has a yellow tint or not

But that fact is, in my case, it ruins my overall experience, and because I know it's there, I then keep noticing it!

Also for the price we pay, and having many other previous iPads, I know this isn't right and that the screen is faulty, it should be a clean white crisp screen

You are missing my point ..... I have no doubt that there are crap screens. I have experienced them myself on multiple iPad 2's, Minis, Airs, Mini 2's, Air 2's, Mini 4s, and MacBooks. I 100% agree that if you have a duff screen that you are unhappy with, then you should get it replaced. I have, and if my 10.5" wasn't perfect in my eyes, I'd d it myself. My point is that many seem to not be sure if they have an issue, or cannot see an issue, and are basing their decision to keep or exchange on the advice of internet nobodies (no disrespect intended, I'm a nobody too!) who are looking at a PHOTO of the posters screen. If you can't see an issue, who cares what others think, they aren't using your device. And you could be giving up an excellent screen based on someone seeing tint in an off-centred photo.

Don't let the door hit you in the rear on the way out. You try QCing hundreds of millions of devices a year. And then give the competition a try. Trust me, you'll come running back. Samsung tablet a have the sameness issues. In fact, the discoloration is sometimes worse.

If I had the experiences that you have had, then I would draw the same conclusions as you did. But I mentioned previously, my experiences have been quite the opposite... so I go by what I experience, not by the experience of others. :)

It's almost like they feel like they are being left out of the club. LOL

Finally, My iPad 10.5 256 arrived

I'm very concerned about topic subject. But..... This is the BEST screen i've ever seen on IOS devices..

No backlight bleed (maybe i'll check it at night again) , no color shift, no yellow or other discoloration, no dust under screen or dead pixel...

I dont know is it mean something but, If anyone want to know, Serial Number start with DMPT, Week 23

For some reason the camera makes it look slightly worse than IRL. This is the best one I've had so far but the problem is still there. I'm on the fence whether to keep trying. Do I want a 10.5 iPad Pro? Absolutely. Do I want to spend the next few weeks unpacking/packing up iPads? Err...

Save yourself the headache. Sending screenshots are a horrible way to resolve the issue because this never shows well on a photograph. If the issue is faint, just ignore it and enjoy your iPad. Nitpicking will aggravate you to no end.

How does mine fare? Max brightness TT off
