Resuming this thread, which model is better/higher probability of having a good display?
DM or DL?

In my experience, The DLX ones are better, more consistent.

After returning 3 (2 of which were DMPT, and 1 DLX), I picked up a 4th today from Best Buy. It’s a DLX and build date is Week 25 (June) and the screen is almost like my Air 2’s which is, again IMO, about as good as it’ll get to my eyes.

cellular? wifi only? see any dust?

Couldn't people apply color calibration devices to remedy the variations? This is similar to monitors - expecting the colors out of the box to be perfect is insane. That's why devices like Spyder exist to remedy that and equalize the monitors to acceptable levels.

Scratches, dust under the screen - I get that. But for you guys to tear your hairs out for essentially lottery picks seems insane to me.

Uniformity issues cant be ironed out though I.e varying color temperature across the screen/yellow banding

There are no calibration tools for iOS either. Just adjusting screen temperature in accessibility settings

That's good to know, thanks. The problem I have with these posts is you never get a sense of how big this issue is. People with the obvious defects will post, while those "that can live with it" or who don't want to admit it will steer clear.

I was actually interested in an iPad too with the recent Best Buy laptop trade-in program... Having second thoughts

I have a poll going though I think that gives you some sense based on the sample size were working with

What else can we go off of? We don’t have internal Apple data at our disposal of how many returns were related to this

Of course it’s a matter of tolerance. And also whether or not people see it or not assuming it’s there. Or if they do but not a big deal to them (a poll option)

By no means is this thread to serve as a DO NOT BUY 10.5 warning

From what I have observed, they don't care. They starts to blame customers for abusing the exchange system. I was really surprised.

Today, after 4.5 years with an iPad 4th Gen, I pulled the trigger and got an iPad Pro 10.5.

Unfortunately, the display exhibits a slight yellow tint in the bottom side, like the one that has been extensively mentioned here. It seems to be a quite common issue after all. Fortunately, no other issues like pink tint, brightness inconsistencies or discoloration from left to right. The serial number starts with DMP and the production week is 27 (July).

Here is a picture with true tone disabled and the brightness round 60%:

Here in comparison with iPad 4th Gen:

I am thinking of exchanging it, however, after reading this threat, I am afraid that I might get one with another issue, more severe this time.

The left side is different than the right side and the bottom is slightly tinted as well. Not too bad but I have yet to see a current iPad with a completely uniform screen. Some worse, some not as noticeable but they are all there. To be fair, my regular day job depends on finding minute differences between things so I notice these things. The iPad on the left though is pretty uniform for the most part.

I find the trick is to just find one that you can live with. Chances are the next one will be worse.

see to me the beach looks pinkish in the 10.5 screen whereas the 4's screen looks more how a neutral sand color should be. i had the 10.5 and just gave up and went back to my 4 which has a great screen to my eyes.

Well after

1 x 256gb iPad from Apple (on release date)
...then
1 x 256gb from Argos
4 x 256gb from John Lewis
1 x 512gb from Apple
2 x 256gb from Apple
...and finally
1 x 256gb from Apple which has a perfect screen, my troubles are all over

But to reach that stage for a customer to have a great screen is diabolical !!!

I presume the last iPad I received must have been from a different batch (possibly newer)

The iPad has serial DM and was made Production week : -25- (June)

So how do you find the build date today? I searched the internet and see that the chipmunk suite doesn't recognize my new 12.9" with DL s/n.

What a bummer. Today on 16th day, i just realised my ipad 10.5 has a yellow tint issue(on bottom left). Is it possible to exchange for another one now(in UK). Bought this one from Apple.

seems cool. what sort of job is that?

No, unless they make an exception! Other than that it would be a trip to the Apple Store or they ask you to send it in which can take (up to) 10 days

They should have kept with express swaps for legit customers, this service was extremely helpful and they stopped it and only offer it with AppleCare+

Firstly, I would like to thank you both for your replies.

The photos that I uploaded, do give this impression. However, this is not accurate. Here are two more representative photos of the situation. The discoloration form side to side is only visible in the photos and I believe is the same with when one looks at any display off-axis.

Unfortunately, from my past experience with 4 iPhones, an iPad and a MacBook Pro, you have to, somewhat, compromise when it comes to displays.

Can you post some pictures? :)

If I had the experiences that you have had, then I would draw the same conclusions as you did. But I mentioned previously, my experiences have been quite the opposite... so I go by what I experience, not by the experience of others. :)

It's almost like they feel like they are being left out of the club. LOL

How many devices did you buy? According to this poll 55% of displays are ok. It could easily mean you were simply lucky.

I hope you don't use same way to draw conclusions in other parts of your life.

Most of the screens which went back had either an all over yellow tint compared to a crisp white iPad Air 2 sitting beside it, or had a yellow band at the bottom left of the screen

I've been through three all of which have had some of the typical LCD issues like light bleed and the uneven screen hue. The current 10.5 I have picked up has no backlight bleed but to some very small degree it has a very thin darker area towards the home button end of the screen. It almost seems as though it's dependent on viewing angle because it's almost non existent from dead on. I'm going to snap a photo with a white background to get some opinions.
