Wait, what?? The iPhone X is smaller than the 8 plus.

You have missed the point completely.

Landscape

Indeed. I'm not sure this size comparison makes any sense. The reason for the X appearing so large, with seemingly huge UI elements, is probably because of its much higher pixel density and the fact that it uses UI resources @3x. It obviously doesn't reflect the actual size of the device.

Please fix the X images to scale.

Honestly, I'm getting used to the notch, but I don't use landscape much except in YouTube, which may be a problem. I'll just have to see one to know how I truly feel.

I'm trying to remain optimistic...but deep down I'm sad and somewhat concerned :/

Scale needs serious work.

You conveniently left out videos playing in landscape....in 'edge-to-edge' full screen.

op should really just remove the size comparison pics because they are comical.

I noticed my epic fail and edited the original post accordingly, please check again and share your thoughts

(edited the scales and added landscape)

That's what I'm going to do. These pics made me optimistic tho, but will still definitely check the X out at an Apple store before throwing my money at it

So, what's the actual usable screen size here, 5"? Look at the wasted space at the top and the bottom. Plus, if your scrolling up to view, you might accidentally swipe up the home bar and it will exit you to homescreen?

I don't think you'll easily exit the app, because my fingers are never close to the bottom of the screen even on my 5s. I highly doubt it will be a problem, but I can imagine if you want to scroll really fast, maybe then?

for me the notch doesn't matter. I use my iPhone 7 Plus in landscape exactly .0001% of the time, and that might even be a stretch. I never use my phone in landscape except for youtube videos, and I can just zoom out if I want to. If you use your phone in landscape so much then get a 8 Plus, because this phone is clearly not made for landscape use.

This was known months ago.
Its got a more extreme panorama aspect ratio.

Its tall-phone take-2. Iphone 4a to 5 did this. Same width, but taller.

This is the smaller iPhone6 4.7inch. Similar width, stretched tall.

I know. I wasn't asking if it was smaller. I'm saying those graphics were way off in the OP.

The notch fades into the black on X landscape unless you zoom in the video. It's completely unnoticeable.

There's going to be a lot of changed minds around here when this thing comes out. Hope you kept your receipt for the Plus.

This made me hate it more. I hope devs will have the option to make full screen landscape video stop at the bottom of the notch and use the cutout for something else.

I guess, if you don't mind video content not filling the whole screen. I'm thinking that's what people were hoping for. By the time the X arrives, it will be to late to return them

The term "coat hanger abortion" comes to mind, when looking at the UI and UX related to the "notch".

FAKE NEWS!
So you're pointing that out as fake in favor of what? The names all being moved over, effectively wasting a pile of space?

Or alternatively, scrolling behind the notch, blocking the first few letters?

Or we could have the autistic form in the GIF.

End result? Apple released a lousy design no matter how you dice it.

Notch doesn’t bother me nor do I use my phone to watch movies or tv shows. Maybe every so often i will watch something on the phone while on a treadmill. Let’s be real here, if you want to be immersed in a video a phone is the wrong viewing platform. No phone has the screen area for me to be satisfied watching a feature film on it and I am okay with that.

I'm not loving the proportions on the X display, but I deal with that on my S8+ as well. It comes across a tad narrow. Over time I won't notice it anymore if I give up my 7 Plus entirely, but while I use both I gravitate toward the 7 Plus.

If I go for the X it actually won't be for the edge to Edge display but for the Face ID, abilities on the front facing camera, the chance to exchange animoji with my husband, who is totally on board with that, and the smaller form factor that still allows for a higher resolution display than I'd get on an iPhone 8. Oh and OLED.

Ugh, what a terrible post this is, sorry, I had to edit for clarification twice already and it's still dreadful. End of day posts of mine usually are pretty bad. The family wears me out.

Anyway the notch seems less intrusive in your presentation. But something like a notch or curved displays really are hard to evaluate until you live with them in daily use for at least a few days. Everyone is distracted or annoyed by different things in actual practice. I have a migraine condition that is triggered by factors I'd never expect until I encounter them in person.
