Can you link all the items you bought and the steps you took to make this work? So you have the adapter going to the Dell? Then all to the C2?
All the items are linked in the original thread a long with the steps i took. The Macbook is connected to the Dell Dock and the dock to the usb-c->HDMI adapter and then an hdmi 2.1 cable to the tv.

When I couldn't get the
I have flashed the 201388-A = VMM7100 Cable Matters adapter as indicated. For me the firware attached in the zip files on the first page of this thread, after flashing, did not work at all when trying to connect my windows laptop to my LG C2 and they did not work when trying to my MacBook Pro M1 16 to my LG C2. I have managed to flash the firmware files provided by Alec Sullivan in this youtube video ->
in his comments: https://l.linklyhq.com/l/1qSry. Flashing them on my 201388-A = VMM7100 Cable Matters adapter made the adapter work for both the Windows laptop and for the Macbook at 120 RBG 10b 4L10 on my LG C2.

However I am very very curios on the following aspect: I have noticed that the adapter gets a bit warm. I have not taken a direct temperature measurement but I will. It is my impression that the MacBooks battery is draining faster or at least A LITTLE FASTER than usual. To me, the fact that it is running at 120 FPS and getting warm indicates that there is a noteworthy amount of power going through, being drained from the battery.

Is there anyone here on the forum with similar experience of this particular adapter getting noticeably warm? Does anyone with a different adapter have the same issue?

Does anyone know of any way I might be able to monitor the power output going through the ThunderBolt port where the dongle is connected? I am very very curious to see what sort of impact this has on the power consumption... especially compared to the power consumption that would be expected via the normal HDMI output. Any thought?

Thank you all. I have created my account 10 min ago, just to share this.
You're a life saver. I was ready to give up after weeks of hair pulling and reading this thread and still not able to make heads or tails with the kludge solutions. Finally, tried that guy's fw and it's working. I went from the 428 GRY to the 388A but 4k@120hz is glorious on 48" C2

Thanks again!

So 1 cable (what is that cable?) goes to the Macbook?

So I got it to work without VRR. 4K/120 HDR...but I am having a problem though with this Cablematters adapter.

Sometimes (most of the time) my screen goes grey when first starting my C2 OLED with Macbook Pro connected to it.

I just unplug and replug, it works fine. But almost always it does this grey screen first. Any fixes or ideas?
Following up here. Still getting this grey screen problem when turning on the C2 Oled with my M2 Macbook Pro connected. Have to unplug it and replug in.

Anyone else have this problem or a fix for it?

I just wanted to contribute my experience for anyone who's followed the steps and pulling their hair out because they're experiencing issues, or not even working at all.

I'm using the Cable Matters 201362-GRY-1.8m cable with a 42" LG C2 and M1 Pro 16" MacBook Pro.

I originally performed the FW flash on a friends desktop PC using the USB-C port on their Radeon RX 6800 connected to their 55" C2. I ran the flash, then hooked up my MacBook to their 55" to confirm the flash had worked, which it had!

When I get home, I hook the MacBook up to my 42", and straight away start experiencing issues. Some HDMI 2.1 bandwidth signals (such as 3840x2160 60Hz 10 Bit RBG) were working, but other weren't, including all 120Hz options. Further, when closing the lid on the MacBook, the HDMI would continue outputting a signal, but it would be completely black.

So I start playing around with trying to re flash the cable at home using parallels, and the number of issues only continue to grow.

After many hours of trying various different fixes, and nearly giving up twice, I finally decide to just try a different HDMI on the TV. I don't expect this to work, but it can't hurt. However, to my surprise, when I switch from HDMI 3 to HDMI 1, all my issues disappear instantly. I am now trying this up in 3840x2160 120Hz 10-Bit RBG HDR, with the lid of my MacBook closed as well!

I have since been back on confirmed that both HDMI input were configured identically (as far as I can tell they were), and I've been using HDMI 3 (the problem HDMI) with my Desktop PC at 3840x2160 120Hz 10-Bit RBG HDR no problem. I really am stumped as to why switching inputs worked, but I'm very glad it did.

Good to know. Are you leaving it on PC mode for the HDMI input? If you unplug the USB-C from the Macbook Pro does it reset PC mode with this cable?

Also are you getting a grey screen from time to time when booting up from sleep lets say? Keeps happening to me on my 42" LG C2.

Yeah HDMI input is staying set to PC mode (Although I already had it that way so the thumbnail was correct). It's not clear to me is there are multiple ways to set PC mode, but I've done it via the 'Home Dashboard' settings menu and the mode persists though unplug/replugs as long as the TV isn't powered down while disconnected I think.

Yet to see the grey screen you're describing I think, but I've only been up and running properly for <24h now

Did you find a fix for this? Mine is doing the same thing with a TS4 dock, MBP 14” M2 Max, and Odyssey Ark screen. Same adapter.
Also experiencing this. Really annoying especially when I'm sharing my screen and it goes black and then I have to wait for it to come back. I do also get the problem when just moving through open program windows as well

Can you elaborate on what 'it does not work' mean? CM sent me the custom firmware and instructions but my antiquated PC from a handful of years ago doesn't seem to have alt mode available as when I plug in the HDMI cable into the dongle, no images are coming through. It's probably just outdated standard. Computer is from 2017 Alienware R6?

At any rate, I do get the dreaded message of Spyder Chip not detected which you diagnosed to another user as not passing through to Windows. I've tried my darnedest to figure out Parallels but still no luck. Hoping more exposure and one of the guys who found success can help me out.
I test this one one and it does not work !

I'm just chiming in here hoping to find someone with a similar setup :) I have a Macbook M2 2022 on macOS Sonoma with the Anker adapter attached to my LG C1. 120 Hertz works fine, videos for example run smoothly. However, I can't get Geforce Now Ultimate to run in 120hz without micro stutters every few milliseconds. I've tried a few things: label the input as PC, different cables, lower resolution, lowering the quality completely, VSync on and off, Game Mode, G-Sync or Freesync on and off - nothing changes. In principle, the games run smoothly, but every few milliseconds there is a short stuttering/tearing. The same with 120hz/60fps. If I play in 60hz and 60fps, the games run absolutely smooth. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do? Or is anyone using a similar setup and can play without judder? Would love to have 120hz as smooth as 60hz. any input is appreciated. thanks :)
In Geforce Now u have to enable vsync adaptive or automatic

The Firmware are exact the same. But we are the first one where release this tweak to enable 4k 120hz, the one on YT only get the correct firmware from CM Support after we got it work.

What limitations would it have? like 4k@120 HDR but only 8bits or something along those lines?

And, would this work:

You need to flash them.

The instructions are in the first post of this thread.

I flashed the Anker 518 USB-C to HDMI 2.1 without issues with the trial version of Parallels to install Windows 11 and the Microsoft Store to install WMMHIDTool.

Sadly, the M2 Pro/Max HDR bug video it is not outdated. You can get 3840x2160 (LoDPI) with HDR - however scaled resolutions (including the most common 2560x1440 for 4K displays) HDR is missing at 120Hz on the M2 Max. This is due to an apparent design flaw in the M2 Pro level chip itself. The problem is not primarily related to output resolution but the framebuffer resolution (for 3840x2160 the framebuffer resolution is 4K however for 2560x1440 it is 5K). The highest resolution with HDR at 120Hz is 2432x1368 HiDPI on the M2 Max.
Very interesting, so if HiDPI 4k 120hz HDR is needed on M2 the USB-C is the way to go too? And only an M2 MAX issue ?

Hello,

I bought the CM adapter 201388-a and cable 201362-a, both with VMM7100

I tried both with the VMM7100 USB-C > HDMI firmware from OP and with the firmware from this video

I tried to flash the firmware on Parallels on my mac and on a windows desktop pc with usb c but not DP alt mode
(I can also test on a surface book 2 but not yet)

nothing worked and i can only have 4k 10bit 60hz on my base mac mini m2

Did I missed something ? do I need to downscale to 8bit ? (and how to do that ?)

I asked CM for their custom firmware, hope it will work
