I have read other things concerning the X. I think also in this Forum/Thread... and also they opend my 5 to remove the dust in the store. But we will see. Maybe it is different from store to store. And opening the X is a kind complexer because of the water/dust resistent.

I had screen issue so I exchanged it at the Apple store. First exchange unit had a dust in it. Exchanged it right on the spot after opening it up. Second unit had dust in it. Exchanged it again. Third unit had dust in it. Exchanged it again. Fourth unit looked fine so I took it. Checked it with a flash light at home and there’s a very small one stuck on the camera lense (not below the cover) but at the very edge and it doesn’t affect the photo. You have to look at it really close under bright light to notice it. I’ll be keeping this one since the screen is good.

I also checked the display models at the Apple store and 6 out of 10 units had dust in it.

It's just my opinion only, but if you're taking a flashlight and looking for a minuscule piece of dust, you're looking for potential problems yourself, which there in itself creates a problem. You even said it yourself, that 6/10 phones at the Apple store even had dust in them. I would try to use the iPhone for what it is and enjoy without having to search for every piece of dust. The perfect iPhone is difficult to come across.

Well it’s just easier to see with a flash.

What do you think? Return or keep?

Even based off your photo, I can barely see the dust. The problem is if you return this iPhone, how do you know the next iPhone won't be worse off with more dust in the one you have now? I would keep the one you have as long as it does not affect your photos and you are satisfied.

So I decided to give it another shot and exchanged it. Apple employees were happy to help me out with it. Opened 2 and what do you know.. they both had dust in it. Third time is the charm and the third unit was absolutely clean, no dust whatsoever. Even tho it was pain in the ass it was worth it

Good to hear that you found a phone that was free of dust. That's difficult to find, but at least it's possible to do.

So I finally brought my phone in to the genius bar yesterday. I was expecting them to replace it but they said they can open up the phone and replace the camera. Took about 45 mins. New camera doesn't have anything that affects my pictures but I do have a speck of dust on my bottom lens. It seems to not affect anything so I'm going to leave it as is.

Quite a significant spot appeared to my photos on the wide angle lens of the iPhone X. I returned it to the re-seller here in Finland and they sent it to repair. I would think this issue it not repairable though in the iPhone X and I should get a replacement once they take a look, right?

An update to my situation. The phone went to repair and it seems that I will receive a replacement. I would suppose a refurbished unit. So at least in this case it was not repairable.

I actually didn't think Apple could physically open up the phone and replace the camera module in store. That's the first I have ever heard of this. But interesting to know.

They opened my iPhone 5 a few years ago also in the store and removed some dust. Takes 10 minutes or so... But i allready told that... :)

Bought an X january 10, noticed a dust in the front facing camera, top edge of the stainless steel was rough because the screen was not well seated of the frame, probably why dust entered the device, plus I had pretty bad screen uniformity in low light in certain apps, went to apple store and they exchanged it with a white envelope one, the replacement device has none of the issues I had.

They will likely just replace your iPhone X with a warranty device. Although, I can't tell from your picture where exactly is the dust located.

Yesterday DHL toke my iphone and i bought the iphone SE.
I Can tell that you was great with buying tip because it is a beautifull Iphone . IT is small but very powerfull.

I have exactly the same problem. My iPhone X is less than a month old and I saw the same thing. White dust appeared on the bottom lens and I saw it today which is weird because iPhone X’s rating is IP67 which means it is supposed to be protected from dust. EXTREMELY protected...

So I gave my iPhone X to the reseller hands and they told me it’ll take min 2 weeks for them to detect the problem. Now I have no money and no phone and I’m very very disappointed.

UPDATE:
I gave my iPhone X to reseller hands 2 weeks ago because white dust appeared on the bottom camera lens. My phone was sent to Apple so they’d fix it, but they found that there is no point in repairing the phone so Apple decided to send me A BRAND NEW iPhone X.

Now 2 weeks later I have a new iPhone X and I am beyond grateful for Apple and TELE2. THANK YOU, APPLE AND TELE2! Forever faithful to Apple!

The Unfortunate part if dust or fibers get trapped underneath the camera lens cover, is that it can't be repaired by Apple. They just replace the device altogether, which can be problematic if they don't have available stock to do so.

And by the way if 2 weeks have already passed will Apple replace the device into the new one?

Likely not. They likely will issue a warranty device being it's out of the 14 day return period. Some Apple Stores might make an exception, but it depends how far out the 14 day return period The iPhone is.

Yesterday I got the iPhone, the model starts from the letter “N”. The Apple’s technician tried to persuade me that this device was new and no one used it. But frankly speaking is there any difference between refurbished iPhones having the first letter “F” and those which have been exchanged during warranty period (with letter “N” in its model name)?

I have same problem, I have tiny dust/specks on my up and down inside the back camera..
I did not see any effect on the pictures yet but this is really annoying problem.. and I don't know it's getting more or not in the future..
Apple says on the phone; First we will try to fix it but if it is still going on same problem then we' ll replacing the phone.. :|

for reference this is what the dust looks like, all inside the lens

Just my luck, right? Gone through 1 exchange already because my very first X had a speck inside one of the back camera lenses.

My new one was perfect, except, in the evening while shopping, an even bigger speck appeared on the same lens, as if it was already there hiding, then, bam!

I’m now awaiting to have it exchanged again tomorrow morning because the Apple Store didn’t have spares until then.

I gotta give it to Apple customer service, though. They really treat you well and will take care of you.

TLDR to updates: Gone through 5 phones in 2 days. All but the one I have right now had tiny specs of white dust on the rear bottom camera. Some only showing up after having the phone for about a little bit. I am crossing my fingers on the one I have right now which is so far dust free after about 2 hours or so. If you don't get a 4th update here, all is dandy!

UPDATE 3: Got to the Apple Store and as usual, the team was more than happy to rectify the problem. I was brought another brand new unit, opened it up and checked it again...what the heck is happening?...this one has it too, and on the same bottom camera! Showed it to the sales associate, this time I was really disappointed. Then she saw it but she had to call a supervisor to verify since this brand new unit she just got for me was barely touched. Then the supervisor checked it himself but instead of agreeing, he kept saying he cannot see anything. This went on for about 15 minutes until he wouldn't want to do an exchange anymore, telling me that these specks of dust are to Apple's manufacturing standards...yada yada yada. I stood my ground and insisted on another exchange...the last one for me or I'll walk away without a phone. Then they agreed. Lo and behold, the last one didn't have specs, but knowing this might not be the ultimate ending to my story, I left the Apple Store anxious and nerve racked. So far, I got home after about an hour and no dust...fingers are still crossed.

UPDATE 2:
Well, what do you know, folks...another tiny speck showed up in the bottom rear camera again! I swear, I checked my replacement properly before I left the store and kept checking, walked around the mall a bit then checked it again after about 30 mins...and there it was. This proves that dust is definitely inside the modules ready for them to be shaken loose. It's disappointing indeed. Back to the Apple Store for another replacement.

UPDATE 1: I got a perfect replacement finally. Now let’s see how this holds up and if it’s hiding another speck in there somehow.
Well folks, I was able to return my iPhone and place an in-store pickup order for a new iPhone (from new inventory this morning) and...

...my new one is dust free!

If your phone has dust, hair, or anything inside the camera, by all means get a replacement if you are not 100% satisfied with it. All of you deserve the best!

I’m on my second iPhone X after having the same issue, looked again and there it is, another speck of dust. I really think they rushed these phones out because there seems to be a quality control issue happening here.

get it replaced, I had apple send me an express replacement. Going to an apple store now is a no-go because it's too busy with battery replacements.
It's such a shame because the quality of the material is good, it's just that the components were rushed out the door so all this dust and hair is inside the lenses

I feel the frustration you’re having. Production of these cameras should have really gotten better by now, oh well.

All you can do is make an exchange and hope for the best...good luck!
