In certain countries, you can't order directly from Apple, and therefore, have no other option. For those that can order directly from Apple and still choose a reseller... I don't know.
I used a reseller because the tradeoff of my old macbook was much better then apple. But if I could go back I would choose Apple or Amazon. In Italy my BTO 14" still available there, but not in the reseller (C&C spa). So ungry...
For different countries it can be different reasons. But i can explain for Poland.
Poland has only online Apple Store. The online store dont provide any benefit program, credit, leasing or trade-in program. And people who buy a lot of apple techniques can have the benefits/credit/tradein only from premium resellers. And these premium resellers the only place where you can get official service. Online Apple Store dont have an address where you can send equipment which should be fixed.
So Apple complicated situations and make it our problem.
Got a special membership w. rewards and such.
Next time I'm going back to not giving a **** about rewards and straight through Apple.
New ETA is mid February. Minimum 16 weeks in total. Absolutely ridiculous.

Sheesh, 16 weeks, you order it when it launched? I ordered 16" too, I think the battery and speakers alone make it worth it, especially with the battery being good enough that I probably don't have to bring a charger along with me. It also runs a lot cooler under load

Good. I'll stick with 16. Just got to work out so the extra grams in the bag won't matter.
The truth is, it never crossed my mind that it would take so long as at the time of order I was told and assured it will take between 4-6 weeks (usually takes around 4).
Ordered M1 Max 24c 32GB 512GB in Slovakia (iStores.sk) for the following reasons:
- price difference: I'm currently at approx. 400€ less for the same configuration bought at Apple.com (in Czechia)
- trade in value: It's not possible to trade in at Apple.com in Czechia and I truly don't have time to bother on ebay sort of servers to sell the laptop I currently have (16" 2019)
- no official store in Slovakia: (not even Online one), so for them it's only way of getting a Mac via Reseller or travel to Austria or Czechia.
Knowing it would take so much at the time of order I wouldn't bother with the discount and order on in Czechia at Apple.com as my colleagues and friends have done (and already have the machines).
I'm currently waiting 11 weeks and counting. No INFO what so ever, if, when and if ever it will be delivered. Definitely a learning experience for me to avoid Resellers in the future.
So, now I've placed an order through the official store too.
If reseller continues to stall at least I'll have a machine in march..

Hows the experience with the offcial store (Apple.com)? Do you have to pay the order which takes so long up front?
In Slovenia, there is no Apple Store, you can't even order online. So resellers are the only option.
And discount is huge. Around 20%. I payed 3800€ for 16" MAX 32-core 64GB 2TB, instead of 4769€. That's why reseller
In Croatia there’s no other option. Only resellers and all of them have basically the same price. Because supplier is the same (Apcom)
There wasn’t even option to order it on the website. I had to contact them through email and ask for estimate bill and haven’t received it until October 29th.
Also I paid 4500eur for 14/Max/10/32/64/1. Only other option is to go to country which has Apple store and buy onsite but due to covid you can’t.
They reserved the full amount on my AMEX right away. I guess they'll charge it as soon as it's ready to ship.

It doesn't make sense that they would say that they are not sure if it will be delivered at all. What does that even mean? That in no point in the future will there ever be your configuration available to them? I highly doubt it. It will be delivered, but the question is when.In Poland i ordered 16 m1 max 32/64/1tb on october 28. In Cortland(premium reseller). Delivered period was estimated 5-6 weeks. Then it was changed to the end of January. Now they say they are not sure it will be delivered totally at all. Prefer not awaiting this new series and bought m1 pro or i9/i7.

started 13. week last Saturday, 16" Max 24c 32GB 512GB, US Keyboard - (iStores.sk) some dude already got his order (waited 12 weeks) at the same reseller - I was asking about it, they told me that they maybe received additional batch by the end of the month, but no promises.

I understand your frustration completely, but honestly, after waiting so long I wouldn't cancel the order if I were you, because surely it will come within 30 days from now, and if you order from somewhere else, you'll likely wait even longer.
Ordered a 16’’/32C/64GB with US keyboard from dq-solutions in Switzerland Oct. 21 and still no sign of it.
