Thanks for elaborating! I understand what you write about the Nike bands with black base or holes, they will look great with a SSSB; I only have the Royal Pulse/Black one, though. And you're right that a 2-tone look will be easier to achieve with a black Watch. Food for thought for me. Although what you call "busy" I would call "sophisticated", which I quite like. The contrast will always be stronger (harsher?) with a black Watch than with a silver Watch; I can see myself wearing combinations like that, but how often? Hmmm …

See, I always thought that look, while very cool, is a bit to flashy to be considered formal, because of the extremely glossy Watch body. I for one think the black Titanium Watch is shiny in a subtle way that is much closer to the Link Bracelet itself. This is actually the combination that most makes me want to get a black Ti Watch.
While I always love a satin/matte look in general, there's no way on earth that I'd personally ever switch away from the SBSS DLC. It's so liberating to never have to be concerned about wearing it based on my activities. I've done so many abrasion-prone activities on a regular basis (eg. concrete cutting, demolition), and have never had to take it off. I'd say the only time I ever take it off is to charge, which is usually: shower time in the morning, and drive on the way home (pre-quarantine).
I saw these posts while I was working and didn’t have time to reply then.
When I said “busy” I was more thinking of the car thing than the watch. Gold isn’t my thing personally, but I tend to think shiny gold or silver is more traditional for watches, which I why I said I’ll likely go for a Hermes is SS. I said it was classier, and
I think it is, but that’s subjective and other people won‘t agree. I think traditional is probably something more people would agree with.
Personally I’m not sure about some bands on black - dark blues and brown leather I’ll have to see IRL before I can make a call. I think brown leather looks fantastic with silver or gold SS though, as does black leather, so I think when I want to go for the traditionally smart look, which is when a Hermes AOD face really excels, I’d rather the SS to do that with. A Hermes SS with Fauve Barenia is classic, and switching to a Noir stays classic but is a very different look. An SBSS Hermes with the Noir band is also very slick and elegant, but not so traditional / classic. Put a Fauve band on that watch though (even with black hardware) and I’m not so sure I even like it.
When the S5 was announced we still only had Alu available here in NZ as we still didn’t have an eSIM provider. At first I held out in the hope we’d get the LTE models soon (though I caved and bought a silver Nike after seeing a couple of S5s with AOD at work) and was planning to get a Ti if/when they came available here. When we did get LTE in mid-December we only got SS - no Edition or Hermes is available here. I went with SS in that case and I like it sooooo much better than the Alu that was all I could get for S3, S4 and my short-lived Nike S5. My S0 was SS, but the Watch was slow to take off here and there weren’t many around until S3, by which time we couldn’t buy SS, so the vast majority of Watches I see are Alu. More than that most men have SG on a black Sport Band and most women seem to have Rose Gold Alu on a pink or white Sport Band. Even silver Alu is relatively uncommon from what I see around.
With no Apple stores and relatively few Watches in the wild as well as the unimaginative owners I genuinely have hardly ever seen a SG with anything other than a black band (one crazy adventurous guy I work with has a Nike Anthracite!), and (sorry to the SG owners) I don’t like the finish. It might look way better with a coloured band, but I haven’t seen it to know. I also don’t like the look of Silver Alu now I’m back with SS. I sold my Nike, but my wife has an Alu S4 she still uses for sleep tracking and the dullness of it is just so meh to my eye.
The point of all that is to say that not having seen it IRL I’d now be wary of Ti in either colour in case it is too satin and therefore too much like the Alu. That and that it may not match the SS lugs well enough even in the lighter variant for me to wear my Hermes or classic buckle leather bands with it.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen SBSS for real either, but for me shiny is the black that I think I‘ll like best - and I’ll see it tomorrow. I’m excited, but also slightly concerned I won’t like it. I can always return it if it really doesn’t work for me.
Wow, that was more than I thought I was going to write.
