which card did you use to run the reference monitors ?

BM ? Kona ?

do u do much offline/online edits since you're working with 'HD'.
Processing is slow editing HD content using FCP.

I use a BlackMagic Decklink HD, Single link card - it cost me $980.

I do all my editing online -- I find the G5 to be plenty fast to do HD editing online, though there's a clear difference in speed when render HD vs. SD.

And rickvanr--the widescreen TV at the right side of the picture is a Sanyo cheapie from Wal-Mart. The HD set on the desk is a Sony PVM-14M8U.

Don't remember if I posted pics here before but this is updated. Not the iBook on the night table. Everything is in the sig, and sorry it's kinda messy. didn't feel like cleaning up. It's clean now. ;)

How do you like the Encounters??? Have you ever compared them to the Creatures or the SoundSticks?

I think they are slightly better as far as clarity goes than the Soundsticks and they are much better as far as bass goes than the Creatures. I absolutely love these speakers and they can really shake the walls. G-R-E-A-T sound.

FYI; woofers go on the floor.

I no, but there's not room!. Besides I like the way it looks there. I think it sounds fine. And plus it gives easy access to the power button.

Well as long as the bass doesn't cause a lot of vibration I guess you'd be alright.

Do you think vibrations from the woofer could damage the Mac mini or external HD over time?

I will soon have, about a week, a power book G5, dual 2ghz, dual dell 19" ultrasharp monitors, memory at 1g, hardrive at 250g, upgraded graphics card, and a shelf stereo system hooked up to it, should work out ok :)

haha... the only thing is I think I like the design of the soundsticks better... hmmm... I dont know. New speakers are 4 or 5 months down the road.

Also, whats that weird thing going over your bed?

I see, cool stuff you have there.
Probably BM card aid your processing power.

Well, apple just crippled my mac without adding any PCIx/express into my powermac G5 2.0 june.

Guess i've to stick with low processing and online edits, which is slow.
Anyway, technology gets faster and 1 -2 years down the road, macs will get tougher(maybe more vulnerable too) . I dunnoe .

How's the Sony reference monitor ? Does it output HD 1080 ?
Btw, are you gonna invest a HVX ? it's a better camera afterall than HDV which is compress mpeg2.

Later ..

My 17" Samsung Syncmaster.

Very good, my main Linux box is hooked up to a 17inch Samsung Flat CRT, I think it is the best monitor I have ever been able to own. I would like ot get a nice 19inch LCD, but that is out of my price range, I think I will wait until I can get another Mac desktop before I invest in a new monitor.

The Sony reference monitor does output 1080i HD - The quality is absolutely fantastic. As I've mentioned, it makes the consumer level Sanyo set look almost SD.

I'm considering investing in an HVX, but for now my FX1 is working just fine for me.

Woops, I forgot to say that the 17" Samsung IS an LCD. It's pretty nice. No dead pixels, crisp picture, nice form factor...very cheap too...around $220 after rebate from MacConnection.

February 06 setup. The iBook's not mine.

Nice set-up, a shame the iBook isn't yours because it goes so very well with the set-up. Great pictures too, I love the marbel with the white!

Very good on the LCD. I bought this monitor back in 2003 and at that time LCDs were still fairly expensive (atleast compared to what I had) and I think I got a fairly good deal on this monitor (paid $150 USD) so I am happy with this monitor that I have. However, like I said a nice 19inch LCD would be a great addition. The ACDs are nice, but I wouldn't invest in one unless I had a PowerMac to go with it. If I had a mini I wouldn't spend the money for the ACD, as I would just got with a cheaper LCD.

I dont have any "particular setup", I take my mac wherever I go, or wherever I feel like working at the time.
