@RobinYerbank are you sure that you won't buy another 13pro or mini tomorrow to try?
Are you a fortune teller?

I can only say that in my very limited time with the regular Pro and the Max, the Max had a clear impact on my eyes as opposed to the Pro.Do we think the Pro in particular is better than the other models? I'm not sure I trust the claims that it has 'DC dimming'.
It's the only model I haven't tried, but I've already given up hope! I've got three boxed iPhones on my desk right now waiting to go back and I hate all of them.

I am trying to get into another Pro for one last try. The reason I elect not to do a test mule is that while I’m ‘near’ 12 Apple Stores, they are all an hour+ drive one way. I want to take one shot and be done. I’m actually contemplating the 1TB now because given how phone to phone, screen to screen, and iteration to iteration all seem to affect differently……if I find one that works for me I may be holding onto it for yearssssss.
BAM here you go again Yes i am a fortune teller. One more thing i can tell you is that i am pretty sure you can tolerate this specific 13 pro soon. i will give you a few tips:
BAM here you go again Yes i am a fortune teller. One more thing i can tell you is that i am pretty sure you can tolerate this specific 13 pro soon. i will give you a few tips:
- Don't constantly look at the screen, and don't play to much with it.
- If you feel any pain, just let it be there and start doing something else. (ready a book, watching tv, get out for a walk)
- Give your body time to adjust! don't get stressed out if you feel a headache in the first days or weeks. you will get used and get over this!
And yes.... i know it's not as easy as i am telling here but i give Robin some extra power, she is the most persistent iPhone buyer the forum knows May a bit of luck be with you!
Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it works out for you! 🤞🏾I'm not getting my hopes up just yet, but I'm finally at home and setting it up... it went into dark mode when it signed in and started restoring and so far... no discomfort! I can immediately tell it's a lot easier on my eyes than the 13 Pro Max was. No idea why these displays are different, but the way they 'feel' certainly correlates with NotebookCheck's findings.
I'll report back once it's updated and restored and I've had some time to play with it.
Dimitri, you might not just be a fortune teller, but a wizard as well. I will certainly keep your tips in mind. I agree that I should give myself time to adjust, but initial impressions are already looking good!
I have a question for my PWM family. My daughter turns 14 tomorrow and her 7 Plus is on it’s last leg. It’s a disaster honestly. I want to get her a new phone. The price per month difference between a 128gb 11 and 128gb 13 is only $10. Do I let my own issues play into this and get her an 11? Or do I assume she’ll be fine like 90% of the population (guessing at that percentage) and get her the 13?
Yup, That's is why the phones looks fine at the apple store, but when you arrive home and turn it on at night. Boom you feel it in your eyes lol.I feel like a moron for not trying this before and I'm sorry for boring you guys with yet another change of course... but you guys are the only ones I know who understand what this stuff is really like!
Until now, I've been drawing my conclusions about the OLED iPhones during the day when they're in bright environments, brightness reasonably high and running light mode. I don't seem to have much trouble from them under these conditions.
It's a totally different story at night, though. I just compared the 13 Pro Max, 12 Pro Max and 11 with the same settings and showing the same webpage (this one). It's crazy how different they all are under these conditions for me, especially when trying to read in dark mode!
13 Pro Max: my eyes feel like they're going to pop out. A sensation of pressure, heaviness, dryness and mild pain. It's also difficult for me to focus on the text.
12 Pro Max: similar to the 13PM, but less intense. Still very straining and difficult to focus on text. I also realised just how awful the green tint is when compared to the other two phones.
11: a huge relief. No discomfort, easy to focus on the text and read with ease. Colours look more natural and 'clean'. The only (minor) downside is lack of pure black, which has never bothered me.
I feel so dumb for not trying this simple comparison, but it's really illustrated the extent of my PWM sensitivity to me. It's also made me realise how easy it is to sort of get used to the discomfort and ignore it (perhaps motivated by a desire to enjoy these high-end iPhones). It's only when doing a comparison and feeling the relief of the LCD that it becomes clear.
I'm going to send these self-torture devices back. Now I'm considering an iPad Pro to complement the 11 to make up for its shortcomings (e.g. lack of 5G)!
That’s exactly how I feel with the mini. I’m not letting any discomfort bug me as it goes away after I stop looking at the screenBAM here you go again Yes i am a fortune teller. assume she’s fine like 90% of population. Imagine all the damaging things we did as teenagers and turned out okay. She’ll be fine.I have a question for my PWM family. Get her a genuine Apple refurbished iPhone 8 Plus. Nobody knows the long term health consequences of staring into a strobe light 8 hours a day for years.I have a question for my PWM family. The screen on the 11 is a downgrade from the 7 Plus
Mmmm...the 13 Mini and 13 Pro did me in so I'm thinking I should just cancel the 13 now as it's likely the same scenario and I'm so bored of making the returns trip to my local Apple store. 🤦♂️I’m also considering trying out the 13 Pro. Already tried and returned the non-pro 13 and the 13 PM. Both make my temples feel like they‘re being squeezed. Not sure if anything will be different with the 13 Pro; but it’s worth a try. I love my four years old 8 Plus, but I just want a new phone!
People stared at the old CRT monitors (CRT? Whatever the the strobing monitors were) and those are doing alright I think. I haven’t read any big news stories about them. If you have though please let me know.Get her a genuine Apple refurbished iPhone 8 Plus. Nobody knows the long term health consequences of staring into a strobe light 8 hours a day for years.

You’ve been blessed by the Apple Fairy 🤣HOLY ****, GUYS! I don't know if you're allowed to swear on this site, but I sure want to right now.
This 13 Pro... I think it's the one! I've been using it for the last few hours doing all my usual stuff, in evening lightning and for a while with the lights off, various brightness levels, (auto) dark mode on the whole time.
I've browsed Reddit with Apollo, this forum, used Messages, signed into all my apps, looked at photos and played loads of Tuscany Villa. No issues at all!
It genuinely feels about the same as my 11 or my PC monitor. My eyes feel fine, apart from being a little tired as they usually are at the end of a long day. No nausea, no pain or urge to rub my eyes. I honestly can't believe it. It's still bizarre as heck to me that all four iPhones in this series are slightly different, but it seems to me that the 13 Pro is by far the most eye-friendly. I find it particularly silly that the 13 Pro Max is so much worse.
Not only is it really easy on my eyes, the display has superb uniformity and overall image quality. Way more vibrant and even-looking than that awful 13 Pro Max I just returned. Although I need to see how I'm doing after a few days, this is super promising. This might be the phone that gets buried with me.
As we've learnt from this thread, we all have individual experiences with PWM, but I definitely think the 13 Pro is worth a shot out of all the new models.
I'll continue to provide updates in the coming days. For now, I present you with some light entertainment. I've attached photos of all the iPhones I've tried over the last month. See if you can identify them all! I feel a little bad for opening and trying so many units... however, they've all been utterly babied and returned in immaculate condition.
I think you should go with the 11. Even though 90 percent of the people do not manifest the symptoms caused by PWM, it doesn’t mean that the flicker is not there, it only means that those 90 percent tolerate the flicker. In my opinion, it will be a matter of time before people would be affected with the flicker in long term even if the short term symptoms are not apparent. OLED as a screen tech should not have been there in the mass market. It has more negatives than positives. The only positive is the deeper black. That’s about it. Otherwise, LCDs are far pleasing to the eyes with accurate colours.I have a question for my PWM family. My daughter turns 14 tomorrow and her 7 Plus is on it’s last leg. It’s a disaster honestly. Take your daughter to the Apple store and let her play with the iPhone 13 models for 30 to 45 mins and see if she has any discomfort using the phone.
