I cannot use the S21 or S22. I posted this a couple of years ago....my Note 10+ vs the Pro Max 12 (which I returned). The Note 10 has a PWM of 250 Hz while the Pro Max 12 is 226 Hz. This was a slo mo recording of each from an ipad and while the frequencies are close to one another the recordings look quite different......there is more going on than just the frequency.

I agree. I think the frequency is A factor and maybe not THE ONLY factor. Maybe they adjust something else and things improve. 🤞🏻

--because I just remembered--don't know if I still have the video--but I think I compared the 12PM and 13PM last year, and the 12 looked like your video, but the 13 did not. I remember getting excited.

To be forthright, I don't know if I gave the 13PM enough of a chance last year. I think I was still just anxious about it (and was only a couple months out of a concussion, so not willing to risk it.)

I need you to remind my aging memory. I know for a fact we look for the flickering of the screen. But did we determine there is anything concerning about the ‘bars’ that float vertically? Here’s a screenshot from a video I took of my iPhone 13 Pro last year, for reference.

I may have to stay off this thread for the next 50 hours so I don't deflate my excitement and create too much of a negative exception. I think for now I'd rather think it COULD be okay and let my brain tell me otherwise.

(At least for a bit)

Bars. Usually bad.
That’s iPhone 13 Pro.

I might try to stay off of this thread too. I won’t be influenced by it since I have gone into every iPhone since iPhone 12 with the expectation that it will probably be fine and I’m going off of my own head and profound reaction rather than a PWM rate I didn’t even know was possible before iPhone X.

Edit: the next time I’ll visit this thread will be on an iPhone 14 Pro Max. 🤞

Ugh. I slowed this down a bit. Pay close attention to the white background (well anyone interested)

I told myself that if Zollotech happened to get a review unit early and posted and said that the 14 Pro had PWM I wouldn't even open the box and just submit a return when it came. That didn't happen, but this video makes me think that I'm likely to stay with the 11 and look for an updated SE in the spring hopefully.

It’s funny you mention that! Well, not funny as I wish this would work for all of us. But I just got off the phone with the closest Apple Store confirming they will replace my iPhone 11 battery for $69 even though it’s at 84% and not the 80% they sometimes have required.

That says nothing. The iPhone 12 Pro has this too, but I haven't had any problems since some kind of DC dimming is implemented. I'm excited when I hold the iPhone 14 Pro in my hands today. I will definitely report.

Here a video that shows PWM on iPhone 14 Pro:

@MICHAELSD already on the way back to the Apple store now with his 14 Pro Max

Standard 14 is in, 14 pro in the next couple of hours. I won't be able to set up until tonight, 14 Pro first. I will give it at least a day before I report (unless my eyes start melting immediately!)

Ugh, the sinking feeling is kicking in. Instead of the excitement and anticipation of the early years where I couldn't wait to get home and power the phone up, instead its gut wrenching jitters at the prospect of a nasty migraine instead. I really don't want another walk of shame back to the Apple store for the 5th year! And I'm boring myself repeating this same info year after year, so you all must be bored to tears with my postings (sorry about that).

It shouldn't be this stressful and my usual rant of "I'll leave iOS for Android this time" is not something I actually want to do. It's affecting my choice of buying an iPad, Apple Watch and Airpods Pro year after year because the phone is the linchpin device. If I can't have a modern iPhone then I don't want to invest in the eco-system. This is what Apple and Samsung are failing to recognise.

Good luck once again PWM crew.

It looks fast, and that's all we can hope for with OLED right now, that the frequency gets a lot higher.

ugh I forgot about PWM. The only iPhone that I haven’t been able to use was the 12 pro max. No problem on any of my other devices.

We are all in the same boat. I used to upgrade every 2-3 years. I used the iPhone X for 3 years without any major problem. When I bought the iPhone 12 Pro, I thought my symptoms were due to covid. It took me 2-3 weeks to realise it was the display. I didn't even know about PWM until it affected me, so I'm sure a lot of people are unaware. I'm not going to buy the 14 pro until I test it out in store. If you are frustrated as me, there is a very strange alternative to this problem - apparently we can change the OLED display to an LCD (kits are sold online) on the 12 pro. I am going to try this if the 14 pro doesn't work for me.

Well, my iPhone 14 Pro has arrived. Setup complete and the first 30 minutes feels very good. Definitely better than the iPhone 13 Pro. So something must have happened. Will now test it longer and see if it is as good as the iPhone 12 Pro.

Can you take a slow-mo video with varying brightness levels so we can see the PWM?

My iPhone 14 Pro is giving me a sensation but I could also have triggered a migraine trying to set everything up fast.

I took a slo-mo video on my iPhone 11 and it looks similar to the iPhone 13 Pro slo-mo videos where lines move slowly down the screen.

Not sure what to make of it yet.

Could you post a video of it for us?

Does anyone here ever post microscope photos? I'd like to see if it's still using a pentile sub pixel layout, as I believe that has something to do with usability.
