If you’re asking about the performance, your original 9.7” iPad Pro has an A9 and 2GB of RAM (if I recall correctly), and the iPad 9 has an A13, which is a big jump in performance, and 3GB of RAM. On iPadOS 15 it’s very power efficient. I don’t know the battery life on iPad OS 16 or newer.

As for the screen, keep in mind that your iPad Pro has a laminated screen, and the iPad 9 has a non laminated screen, although it’s very comfortable PWM-wise.

I would try to go for an iPad Air 5, specially when the 6 gets released in October, and see if you can use it, because it will have a much longer and better lifespan.

Sorry yes I was just talking about the screen, it burns my eyes immediately.

Will do some research and wait for the new ones to be announced before I make a purchase.

Cheers

Excuse me, I read your message too quickly and didn’t get what you wanted.

Now, I see, that you find 9th gen iPad uncomfortable. Then forget about my previous message. I wish the 11” Air or 11” Pro screens suit your eyes.

Good luck!

What is the main difference between the 11” versions and the 9th generation I was subject to earlier?

The comparison shows Liquid Retina Display v Retina Display.

I’ll pop into an Apple Store to compare.

I am in the market for a new ipad. My Ipad Pro 12.9" (1st Gen) is on its last legs.

My daughters just started secondary school and all students must sign up to a new ipad (paid 0% over 4 years) and they are given a 9th Gen iPad. I helped set it up for her but I simply cannot look at it for more than a minute at a time.

Apple comparison site shows both my Ipad Pro (1st Gen) and the 9th Gen having retina displays, non OLED. Is there a significant difference between these two models that I cant work out? Its worse than any of the recent iphones I have tried.
What iOS are the two iPads running? I was able to use my first generation iPad Pros for years (I have two). Recently I upgraded the iOS to 16.5. That upgrade made it extremely uncomfortable to use. My other one is 16.2. I can put them directly next to each other and one makes me feel "off", dizzy, slightly "warm", etc almost immediately. The other I could look at all day. Visually I can't "see" a difference between either of them but something definitely changed with the new iOS.

Basically, the 11” Air and the 11” Pro have laminated screens, just like your current iPad Pro. This is, the screen display is basically fused with the glass. While the iPad 9 has the screen under the glass and has an air gap between the glass and the display.

Also, probably, the screen manufacturer/suppliers of the iPad 9, 11” Air, and 11” Pro, are different, and you will have to play the screen lottery trying different models.

Do you think this year’s screens will be better regarding eye strain?
Honestly I haven’t got a clue. I really hope so but I’m not optimistic. The eye strain isn’t what affects me so much as the dizziness and nausea. Pro-motion makes it particularly bad so I’m glad the standard models have kept away from it.

Does anyone know if a Plus model might be better than a standard model in terms of symptoms? I did read people saying they had better experiences with the 14 Plus than the standard 14.

No will know anything until they are out in the wild. There’s really no reason to speculate until we have some hands-on testing.

Last couple of years I was gutted I couldnt upgrade. This year the feeling is more anger.

Anger that a global giant like Apple are not finding a solution to something so significant. If they could find a genuine workaround they would win us all back and no doubt steal lots of trade from the Andriod market.

In the grand scheme of things, we’re a spec of dust on their radar. None of the other market leaders like Samsung are doing anything either. I don’t think anything will change until there’s significant media coverage and/or extremely damning research is published condemning Apple and Samsung etc.

Maybe use an iPhone to make a documentary about people suffering from pwm and that would get their attention.

I’ll start with the 15 Pro Max and work my way down from there. I liked all the models I saw today.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus seem like last year’s iPhone 14 Pro models with a different number.

My guess is that our only hope is with the 15 Pro models.

At least they are still selling iPhone SE.

Aren’t the pro models usually worse for us? Especially with promotion enabled. 🤢

Announcing iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the first Pro iPhone line with a flicker-free Super Retina XDR OLED Display.

I haven’t seen that part of the keynote yet, but that’s what happened…right? Right?!
Sadly, no, it was just a dream. I tweeted to Tim Cook that the lineup looked great and I will preorder and hope I don’t get migraines like I did from 13 and 14 Pro models, forcing me back to 12 Pro Max. I said pwm sensitivity and other flickering (dithering) was a problem for some of us. I doubt the man reads tweets to him but maybe someone in that giant spaceship will. Meanwhile I’ll try and stay hopeful one of these new models will work out for me and you and anyone else.

Oh well. No luck with these new phones. Still hoping the SE4 will come out next year and still be an LCD screen. I'd get the SE3 but that screen is just so small. I suppose I'll have to get the 3 though if they make the 4 OLED.

Well, on the bright side, it looks like this is another year I will be saving $1,000+ USD.

Wonder how long Apple will support my iPhone 11 with iOS updates. It might be on the chopping block for iOS 18 or 19.

My experience through the history of OLED iPhones is that the eye strain has always been there but it seems to have lessened with time. It may become a situation where I buy one just to have a phone on hand and use it sparingly. And use a tablet for everyday mobile stuff.

Well, well, well……that was a boring keynote. That said, the natural titanium 15PM is calling to me. Looks like I’ll play again and preorder. Now Tim, look, if this works out I will be ordering a MBA 15” and AW Ultra to go along side my new iPhone. If you let me down again, all bets are off and I’m ordering an Android something or other. 🙈🙉🙊
