Also I loved iPhone 13 mini, so I have this optimism that of any Android I could try this would be the best combination of potentially offering flicker reduction as well as a foldable form factor that isn’t available on the iPhone side regardless.
Is it possible to make a foldable LCD? I don't know

The Razr Plus is plenty fast though. For someone with four year year old phone that was the very first thing I noticed. It’s using the previous generation Snapdragon but it’s no slouch. Also up to 165 hz refresh. I toggled it down to 60 because it just feels better.

I’m not even paying attention to the specs. I already know Apple creates the quickest chips and the best cameras.

But - that doesn’t make a major difference if a user isn’t pushing their phone with games or using it for professional work. As long as it feels snappy enough and doesn’t cause headaches I’ll be impressed.

Motorola is certainly trying to make a name for itself again, even if they’re recycling the Razr name, which I can respect. I’m skeptical that I’ll like Android, and I’ll most likely move back to iOS as soon as there’s a flicker-free iPhone again. I’m getting ahead of myself as usual, as there are a lot of variables here.

Pixel cameras are neck and neck with Apple. They don't even come close to the performance, however

You don’t have AT&T do you. If you get one from a store it’s $10 per month for 36 months. No trade needed no money down.
No, I ordered on Amazon and depending how I feel I may just keep that. There are better deals out there for sure. I won’t even activate it unless I enjoy it and manage to avoid getting headaches, so this will be an interesting experiment. That is a great deal.

Fun fact: I did have AT&T just to be able to use the first few iPhones, which were exclusive to the carrier.

It’s definitely a different world.
You probably won’t like the interface right off the bat because things are different. But if you give it time - you’ll get more used to it. I never preferred it.
I’m already thinking about switching the icons over to an iOS template, but I do like the simplicity of Motorola’s interface compared to others I’ve seen. The Galaxy UI is horrendous or overly bland IMHO.

What are you measuring though?

This is the device: Radex Lupin … it’s often unavailable on Amazon. May have to try AliEcpress. I got lucky and kept checking and found them in stock once.

It’s a light meter that measures light intensity and flicker percentage.

The manual describes flicker percentage as follows:

PulsationRate of flickering (pulsation ratio) indicates how much the illuminance or brightness change in a given amount of time. It is measured as the difference between the median value vs highs and lows. Rr = (Emax - Emin)/2*Eav*100%. Unit of measurement is a percentage (%). The only pulsations that should be controlled or adjusted are 300Hz or lower. Depending on the work type, the light flickering should not strain the eyes if it does not exceed 10% for visually-focused tasks, and is not higher than 20% for all other tasks. The office monitor should not flicker more than 5%

So, based on the above description, I interpret it as measuring the modulation depth.

OnePlus is extremely similar to Moto and Google in this regard(stock Android is what it's called, since it's Android in stock form without BS add one like Samsung use). OnePlus actually might be the best of the bunch with their amazing Oxygen OS

It will be fun reading your comments. 😄 I predict you will not like build quality. It ain’t shabby but nothing like the iPhone. You have a google account, right (doesn’t everyone?) You will need one of those. If you don’t like the interface you might want to try Niagara Launcher. In the Play Store. That’s where you get your apps. Icons…..there are many many icon packs downloadable in Play Store. You can try apps. What is it now, 30 minutes for a refund? Flicker free is not turned on by default. Do that in display settings. You unlock the phone with a fingerprint sensor on the big power button. It works quite well. There is also an unsophisticated Face ID to open.

I’m new to this thread but not new to PWM
:(

Tried the OnePlus nord a few days ago. It was OK, but too big for my preference.

Can anyone suggest a slightly smaller android? Thanks.

I’m still using iPhone 7 Plus and 8 plus mostly :(

It will be an experiment on all fronts: PWM, Android, foldable form factors, standing a smartphone that isn’t Apple…

That being said I’m already having second thoughts. Every time I think the iPhone 15 Pro is going to be unusable, and I am still getting light headaches, I put some time between it and it’s not quite as bad. I would have no complaints really if weren’t for the PWM.

I’m back and fully re- set back on my 12 Pro Max. Sadly having some discomfort on it, too.

I gave my daughter’s iPhone 15 a try. I read a few posts here. I tried dark and light mode. I didn’t have any eye fatigue which is something I felt pretty quickly on the 15 Pro Max. My eyes had felt very suddenly tired on the 15 Pro Max.

It just felt normal. Which means nothing until I’ve been with a phone for a few days. But of course that’s not an option on a teenager’s phone.

I’d kind of like to try the 15 Plus for the monster battery but I’m hesitant to try it now. I have had my hands on the regular 15 and it’s been nice enough I feel confident about giving it a try.

My daughter says she likes the battery life so far. She used the GPS and did a full day of texts with friends and Instagram scrolling and said the battery life is fine. Another plus is she can lend me the case she’s not using. I got her two cases and she prefers the wallet one.

You don’t want to mess around with headaches or unusual discomfort long term IMO. That’s just bad for health.
Agreed. Any tension headaches during and after use are still concerning, even if they’re noticeably lessened compared to previous experiences where I couldn’t use an iPhone without persistent throbbing behind my eyes.

I’ve been far too generous with my ratings of previous iPhones, but the good news is that compared to the 24/7 headaches of iPhone X I would give iPhone 15 Pro a 3/10 on the sensitivity scale—lower is better. I would say a one-third reduction in sensitivity is fair, if not better considering how unusable and lingering iPhone X was in terms of PWM sensitivity.

That’s still not great as a 3/10 means minor headaches during and after use, some difficulty focusing on the display, and general PWM sensitivity. All subdued compared to previous iPhone generations. I was too generous with my rating for iPhone 13 mini in particular since I still had persistent headaches during and after using that each time, yet found it to be one of the most comfortable and natural-looking OLED displays.

I’ve tried implementing good health practices like limiting distance between my eyes and the iPhone display, including enabling the new eye distance feature in iOS 17 which hasn’t alerted me that I’ve had the display too close regardless, as well as breaks between use—especially staring away from the display for a few seconds every few minutes.

None of this is the cause of the sensitivity and only does so much to mitigate negative PWM symptoms. But at least I can say I’ve tried every possible combination of settings on this iPhone as well.

iPhone 12 Pro Max was brutal for me. Nearly as bad as iPhone X.

If you think you can stomach it, go for iPhone 15 Plus. But I still think realistically we should wait for a PWM-free iPhone. Easier said than done.

the_top_g Ranked the 15 Plus over the rest of the 15 lineup and the regular 13 over that so I'm curious to see what notebookcheck says about the 15 lineup and If the 15 Plus will be the best option for people hopefully it all works out.

Ok so I can use the phone for reading. But God help me trying to use my brain to compose an email while using the display. Since this is my computer I can’t keep it. I’m getting nasty headache.

So I don’t know what to try next. 15 Max or regular 15. 15 Pro is out of the question since I don’t want to spend the money and get such little battery life.

I guess the Plus sized 15 has a kickazz battery life. I just think the regular 15 is so cute. lol.

Which one do you all think is better for pwm? I don’t think I’ll get to see them at the Apple Store unfortunately.
i have both the 15 and 15 pro and the pro was way better on my my eyes. Ive read the pro max is even better so Id suggest trying the pro max next.

Edit: nevermind, i see you updated your post saying you tried the Max already.

I believe she started with the Pro Max.

Ever the optimist, I do believe there has been a positive change this year. The PWM just feels different, and I’ll consider it a win if I no longer get constant throbbing behind my eyes. Tension headaches are still present at times during and after use but comparatively subdued.

I’ve been wondering if I’ve been making positive lifestyle changes that make me less susceptible to PWM sensitivity, such as less screen time and more daily exposure to sunlight, but as long as symptoms don’t get worse over the next week like they did with iPhone 14 Pro Max then I would say this is a better iPhone in terms of PWM. Not fixed, and quite probably not a device I’d want to use every day out of long-term health concerns, but finally a measurable step in the right direction.

Hopefully the 13 works out for you highest iphone PWM rate on Notebookcheck
