Unfortunate, but not surprising. Thanks for sharing. Here you can see that the pro has PWM.

Are we reading the same article? This article mentions that it's come a long ways, but it cant hold a candle in color, motion and other aspects of premium displays like the Pixel 9. Nothing about the linked article made it seem like the best display they used, unless you meant "in the category of eink". Truly interested in this tech, but this article wasnt exactly glowing. "I want it on my next phone, but I don’t want to sacrifice all the premium features I depend on to get it."It has been reviewed by one of the magazines and they found it to be the best display they used.
Here is one:
TCL's NXTPAPER display tech is better than ever and I want it on my next phone
TCL's NXTPAPER 3.0 display tech is better than ever, and I want it. It's too bad the phones TCL is making aren't what I'm looking for.www.androidauthority.com
Both iPhones do exhibit flickering on camera. Still, it’s possible they’ve made some improvements. Here you can see that the pro has PWM.
I used to get very excited when the new iPhone got released. I made plans to go to the store and try the phones out. This year finally it doesn’t get me excited. No hopes. The only note during the keynote I found that could be good news is that there is a new display engine, but I think that’s more so to control the always-on display and adaptive refresh rate. They update the display engine regularly with new Apple silicon. No mention of the brightness controller, so it’s probably mostly unrelated since I’ve gotten excited over this in the past.
Yes it is!I’m very curious if it works out for you
This is the phone you are mentioning right?
Thanks for the update! Good to hear. Please note according the YouTube clip the phone has not pure DC dimming but DC dimming like dimming. The xiaomi 13 has fully DC dimming what I read online. Im going to try that phone out. Sometimes changing the refresh rate to 60hz also helps btw.Yes it is!
Small update from the Moto edge 50 ultra: not bad, not perfect, but yesterday i had more than 3 hours of screen time and today i feel well so... that's definitely an improvement Let's see how it goes in the next weeks.
Just for info, these are my settings right now:
- Anti flicker ON (so it uses DC Dimming at all brightness levels)
- 120 hz refresh rate
- Auto brightness ON
The same thing has happened to me. I was watching the keynote and... the same as always. I'm not interested anymore. If I could use the devices maybe the situation would be different but nowadays....I used to get very excited when the new iPhone got released. I made plans to go to the store and try the phones out. Sleep apnoea is a top watch feature to me. I don’t want to abandon the Apple ecosystem. Please Apple do sth.
I don’t think it’s a good idea to copy-paste the email and send it tens of times… it can be detected as a spam attack. If you delete the emails, I’ll edit your quote in order to not incentivize laziness. Writing a polite and explanatory email is not that hard.Oke, if next week shows that they still use low PWM frequency, start e-mailing Apple excutives on time so that they can fix this problem before the iphone 17 goes in production. I wrote 2 e-mails you can use
Dear...
I am writing to express some concerns shared by a number of users regarding the display technology in the new iPhone 16… [REDACTED]

It also mentions a bunch of advantages. I think that may be an older product. Are we reading the same article? This was never in doubt. The question is how does the phone handle the Samsung M14 OLED display. Are we going to get high PWM numbers? Here you can see that the pro has PWM.
JK is not good.I received the Nothing Phone 2a today and as soon i turned it on i started experiencing a weird feeling of vertigo and blurry vision, way way way worse than anything i experienced before… very strange and upsetting. At this point i will try to stay in the iOS ecosystem with something like a 11, SE 2022 or even a 14 with an LCD screen to have something more modern.
For the user that has replaced the screen of its 14 with an lcd, how’s it going?
I checked the nothing phone 2a out in a store. It supposed to have DC like dimming but I saw the screen clearly flickering. So I dont trust nothing. Did you try out Xiaomi or a honor phone?I received the Nothing Phone 2a today and as soon i turned it on i started experiencing a weird feeling of vertigo and blurry vision, way way way worse than anything i experienced before… very strange and upsetting. Many thanks, I’m sure many people here will be thankful for your research.I will order the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro tomorrow.
I will then report how I get on with the two models and whether I have any problems.
I will not test the iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro Max yet because I want something more handy.
If it doesn't work with iPhones and I have problems, I will test the larger ones too.
Maybe you should’ve tried with CMF, the second brand of Nothing. I’ve read somewhere that it’s a bit easier on the eyes.I received the Nothing Phone 2a today and as soon i turned it on i started experiencing a weird feeling of vertigo and blurry vision, way way way worse than anything i experienced before… very strange and upsetting. Would be great if the iPhone 16 could have its screen as easily swapped for an LCD as the 14, but I guess it is more and more difficult each generation, especially because the circular cutout and the Dynamic Island.JK is not good.

Which phone are you using now? You mentioned that the pixel 9 and xiaomi 14 works for you. And last year you were very positive about the 15 pro maxI thought about it again and ordered the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the iPhone 16 Plus.
I wanted the smaller ones at first, but I prefer a larger display. I just like that better.
I will report at the end of next week, the iPhones will arrive on time on Friday.
Over the last few years, the larger iPhones have always worked better, with regard to our PWM problems.
I think it is a very risky decision. We have great difficulty in finding devices that don't give us problems so I wouldn't send that phone back before you find another “good” one.I already got tired of the distorted colors on the Moto Edge because of its curved display... i think i'm gonna try a nothing phone 2a and send this back

Pixel 9 is ok? mmm interesting i can accept to switch from an iPhone to a pixel phone! I will try! Thanks for the infoWhich phone are you using now? You mentioned that the pixel 9 and xiaomi 14 works for you. And last year you were very positive about the 15 pro max
Oke thanks for sharing. The 15 pro max I could use for a day before my eyes where burning. So if the 16 line up has still 480hz PWM I won’t try them. The google pixel has a 240hz pwm. That’s way too low for me. I’m curious about the xiaomi. Otherwise i have to keep using the iPhone 11 :-(. I hate it that this problem is just for a small minority and because of that they don’t fix it. It’s really frustrating. The first AMOLED screens were using DC Dimming and now this bs for 10 years now.@Heman87
The iPhone 15 Pro Max was fine, but the Pixel 9 Pro and the Xiaomi 14 gave me neck pain.
I didn't have any problems with my eyes, but I did have pain in the back of my head and neck.
It's just weird what kind of problems individual devices cause.
Unfortunately, even after months, the iPhone 15 Pro Max was not 100% perfect.
