Here is my first report.
Today the iPhone 16 Plus and the iPhone 16 Pro Max arrive.
Since the iPhone 16 plus would be enough for me, I will of course test this first.
I have now spent 2 hours on the display, and the iPhone 16 Plus is the first iPhone with OLED,
where I don't notice anything at the beginning of the use. Eyes, stomach and neck don't react at all.
So far I have noticed something in every iPhone at the beginning. Apple must have done something. I feel great.
Will test the iPhone 16 Plus now. If it actually works, I will not unpack the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

I know a quick “hands on” test on the Apple Store isn’t exactly the most reliable test for this but… I’ve been trying the iPhone 16 for a few minutes and it felt okay. But admittedly I spent most of the time admiring that gorgeous teal color in the back.

I’ll test it again. But I feel too comfortable with the touch and feel and lightness
of the iPhone SE 3. I don’t think I’ll exchange it for a bigger and heavier smartphone.

Awesome. I hope it will stay like that. Do you also know the PWM frequency? And modultation depth? Today my wife orderd the 16p. I will test that one out tomorrow for myself.

The Marine blue and the teal colors are gorgeous. If I could use one of the standard iphones it would be a hard pick for me. The pro colors are bit boring

Early reports are 480Hz PWM for the Pro models, mostly unchanged from iPhone 15 Pro, and hybrid dimming for the standard iPhone 16 that may make it the better of the two options.

Still, I’m more optimistic about the prospect of iPhone 17. I truly believe that might be the next step-change generation.

So there is some difference between non-pro iPhone 15 display and non-pro iPhone 16 display?

What’s the thoughts on the tests?
“No risk” at all brightness levels is encouraging, lest we forget that this was misleading on iPhone 15 as there were two separate waveforms.

So there is some difference between non-pro iPhone 15 display and non-pro iPhone 16 display?

I’m not sure there’s really enough information out there yet, but iPhone 16 is starting to look a little more promising—especially those base devices.

Still, I’m suddenly imagining my usual headaches which the thought alone is making me dizzy. 😵‍💫

Encouraging, but Opple Light Master IV is widely known to be inaccurate in many cases.

I have both III and IV. I'll see if I can stop by an Apple Store tonight and do some testing on my own.

I just left the Apple Store.

I just did some basic tests, with my Opple Light Master Pro III, because it was really busy in there.

I tried testing with a microfiber cloth covering the phone and Opple light meter, but auto brightness kept dimming the screen very dark. Couldn’t figure out how to disable that from happening.

Anyway, with just me trying my best to block any ambient light (without the microfiber cloth), here are the results for iPhone 16 at 100%, 75%, 50%, and 25%.

100%

Take these results with a grain of salt. I was able to produce some weird results like super high risk, but 100% and 75% brightness were fairly consistently no risk or low risk.

iPhone 16 may be worth a try for some. I’ll go back and do proper tests when it isn’t so busy sometime next week.

Finally, even though this says “low risk” that is NOT ideal. No risk (no PWM) is what iPhone SE and iPhone 11 are, and there is no question those are better for your eyes than iPhone 16.

I also quickly tested iPhone 16 Pro — it was horrible (very high risk at all brightness levels). Do not buy the Pro models. (The results from that Reddit post were very, very inaccurate.)

How did the phone feel on your eyes?

Haven’t really used it much until now… I feel like I just felt something… hopefully it’s just because I’m hungry, but def may be a no go.
The only iPhone that really messed me with was the 12 pro max.
I did notice that when I first used it, I thought the brightness was really intense.. Going in now to do reduce white point..
Update: Nvm. It carried over from the restore. Going to lower it from 55 to 75

Interesting that the test results are so different. The first results were almost perfect. Too good to be true. But these test results have relatively high modulation depth. The standard models have typical very low modulation depth. Makes me wonder how reliable these tests are aswell.

I also wonder if the test results are different because there are different manufacturers. Samsung, LG and BOE provides OLED screens to Apple

Played with the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro in store.

The 16 is absolutely unusable for me, especially when scrolling. I see the letters getting stretched every which way. I can't bear to view it even for a few minutes.

The Pro is marginally better.

Neither can compare to the ease of viewing the LCD screen on my SE 2022.

And the SE 2022 is nothing compared to my laptop which is a regular old LCD that is EyeSafe certified.

Unless Apple continues to offer an LCD screen, I will be forced to leave Apple once I need a new phone. The SE 2022 is already getting to be too slow for me.
