If I believed that using a Samsung flagship was the fix - I'd switch in a heartbeat.
Yeah, for some reason, their budget models still bother me. Even last year's S23 series gives me immediate headaches and eye strain. I couldn’t even watch a 3-minute video without getting sick or irritated. It also depended on how my day went. Some days, I'm working outside a lot, and then I would get very dizzy if I used the older models. But on days when I'm behind a desk, it's headaches and eye strain.

So far, since June, no issues with the S24 series. The first 2 days, I did have to adjust, but that could also be my eyes getting used to the jump from LCD to OLED and the refresh rate of the display. The Ultra (that I'm currently using) is very pleasant to my eyes, with no eye strain or PWM-related symptoms that I would have experienced previously.

Great news that the S24 and Ultra are working well for you!

It’s strange, though – Samsung phones seem to receive the most negative comments about PWM eye strain on Reddit. 🤷‍♂️

r/PWM_Sensitive

"Samsung has even improved the PWM dimming and doubled the frequency, but this still doesn't make it flicker-free; sensitive people may still find this irritating. No temporal dithering was detected."

Yes, indeed, I am also active there, and I was very hesitant as well. But it worked. Maybe it’s their new LPTO 2x OLED display or the modulation. I would really like to know why this one works. It’s not that I was lucky with a random display. I bought two S24s—one regular and one Ultra—and both gave me no symptoms.

Do you think the extra money for the ultra are worth ? Any other benefits other than the camera which i don’t care ?

In a sense they are quite similar. However the regular S24 occasionally lagged with animations and the battery drained much faster on cellular compared to Wi-Fi. In the Netherlands only the Ultra comes with the Snapdragon processor and yes it’s significantly better in almost every way. For light users the difference won’t be as noticeable except when on cellular. But if you use your phone all day I highly recommend the Ultra. It has a larger battery a nice rectangular display and a snappy chip. Personally I tend to keep my device for at least the promised 7 years until 2031 and I have a feeling that the Snapdragon chip will perform better over time.

Extended holiday returns are now in effect.

If Apple doesn’t mind, I suppose I don’t mind possibly trying an iPhone 16 model if only to provide feedback.

I’m between iPhone 16 Pro and the standard iPhone 16. Although I honestly didn’t even fully transition over from my iPhone SE on either iPhone 15 model: the enthusiasm is waning, but that’s the result of expecting a different result every year only to become disappointed by minute differences.

Try the Pro, why not?

I’ve been reading these forums for years now, so I’m going to share my current experience so far

- at the moment I am using an iPhone 15, and even though it has Apple Care, I paid a third party repair shop to replace my oled display for an LCD display and it has made the experience a lot better

However, I had an interesting experience with the iPhone 15 Pro earlier this year, and I’m wondering if other users have had similar experiences

I purchased an iPhone 15 Pro and used it for the evening that same day

Everything was going great until I got hungry and decided to go for a drive to pick up some food

Instead of the usual eye strain, this time when I got behind the wheel I felt light headed, disoriented, and just not okay to drive so I promptly went back home

This is an experience that I have only had with a Pro model - iPhone 15 Pro, with the base model iPhone 15 - 6.1 I have eye strain, and with the 15 Pro I felt light headed and not able to focus on driving, it was almost like being drunk for lack of a better explanation

So now that I am wanting to experience Apple Intelligence, I’m wondering if should try the iPhone 16 base model or iPhone 16 Pro

Thanks everyone who read my post and sorry for the long paragraphs

Save yourself the hassle of chopping and changing phones and stick with your LCD screen iphone 15. It's still a very good phone.

You'll live without Apple Intelligence.

As an old Galaxy s3 user I want to give android another chance. In 2 days i ll start using an S24 ultra. I am curious in which way it will affect me.
Exciting. That is a beast of a phone I'd be very happy to own. I know you'll keep us updated 👍

I checked again in a carrier store and found the iPhone 16 display slightly easier to stare at. Just looking side by side it had more clarity to my eye, which indicates lower modulations. iPhone 16 Pro isn’t the worst by any means, and I think it’s an appealing package this year.

Regardless, I still found myself with the hint of a migraine after leaving—I don’t ever get migraines unless I stare at a flickering display, and for the most part just the latest smartphones. Although Mini LED is almost equally as bad.

I’m going to reiterate that the most PWM-sensitive users won’t be able to use an iPhone again until the display is truly, absolutely flicker-free.

That clarity sensation is sth i also noticed this year with the new iPhones. Maybe it’s the increased brightness the reason that confuses us.

Can anyone explain to me why the icons in S24 ultra (apps on main page) seems like low res ;;

I fixed the ussue. It happens when display is set in natural setting. I returned it to vivid. Samsung keyboard sucks hard. Any suggestion;

Edit: I installed the Gboard.

I would say that the whole samsung interface is unwatchable. And that's the reason why I want to try the pixel.
But it is clear that we are not in a position to choose what we like but we have to choose what doesn't make us feel bad.

S24 Ultra made my vision a little bit blurry and had some small head irritations after some hours. So i would say to me worse than even the iPhones. Also I don’t know but even on vivid mode without eye comfort the interface doesn’t look crystal clear. When I open eye comfort or the extra eye comfort option i could see grain on the apps.

Using an android since Galaxy s3 was a great chance for me to get back with an old friend. Things have improved vastly. Samsung has removed bloatware and the extra ram makes everything super fast without things refreshing……

But but but still…..
Not my cup of tea.

I still feel disconnected on android. iOS even on iPhone 11 is more smooth…. the way your finger scrolls, touches and responds in general. On android you have a fake sensation that everything runs very quick …. faster than your touch….haptics on android are great on par with iOS.

At the end of the day despite my friends told me the opposite that apps have improved I didn’t see any of that. To me most of the apps (except messenger or Viber) looked and felt like a browser app. First party like dialer or messages are very good. 3rd party like Discord for example is awful looking. Gmail app also a lot more natural and organic on iOS. They lack depth….

Touch ID unlock wanted precise touch to work so it was not an always 100% working success. I was told that if I install a screen protector it won’t work and it needs a specific anti scratch protector. Battery felt great….sound is clear but newer iphones I tested had more volume and bass….. louder in general. iOS is a lot smoother and natural by just navigating to it. Even safari feels more premium and better organised….. tried chrome, brave and Firefox they were like pc browsers not smartphone apps.

If I ll ever give android another chance it would be only with Oneplus but really don’t care anymore…..

So it still stands that Samsung OLED phones and tablets are a no-go for most sensitive folk.....🙁

So s24 is a safe bet?

I am thinking of pulling the trigger, but more because of the fact I need camera than a phone since 11 Pro still works good as a phone (but camera sucks thanks to Apple’s updates)

But are you sure about your choice? From what you write you have mild symptoms after HOURS.
I would keep the phone in your place, because iphones 14 PRO, 15 and 16 PRO make my head explode after 15/20 minutes not after hours.

There is one (potential) fix that while downgrading beautiful oled display, colors and tactile experience makes phone very convenient to use: matte screen protector/9D glass.

They are quite cheap, can be ordered on Aliexpress or Temu. Seems to help with most PWM issues and dithering, it may slightly change photo colors but very insignificantly

Is there not a risk of negative effect build-up? Examples:- I could use an iPhone 13 for nearly a week before my eye muscles strained so much that I had headaches. The iPhone 16 Pro Max was symptom-free for 2 days and nights until the third day when my eyes felt punched and I had a skull-splitting migraine! If your eyes and brain start to hurt, it"s your body telling you to stop.

I can't help but feel that screen protectors are just snake oil.......
