I always thought the iBook G4 had the best compromise between cost and performance. I think Pro machines have their place, but they're rarely good value.

My personal favourite was the iBook Clamshell. The handle and the ruggedness of these was great. I really miss my 466SE.

The thing that surprises me here, is that the Titanium PowerBook isn't getting the credit it deserves. The Al has had a few mentions, but the Al was merely an evolution of the Ti -- the Ti was hugely different to anything before it at launch. It was a step change, not just evolutionary.

The iMac G4 is definitely the best Mac of all time. The design was so perfect that there really hasn't been a better designed all-in-one yet and most likely ever. After the iMac G4 I have to put the perfectly sized 12" PowerBook next. To me it looks like the G4 era was Apple's golden age, so to speak.

Agree in full.

It's entirely related to the number of Mac users who only became Mac users over the past 1 or 2 years. They won't know the 15" Ti PB. Even people who weren't Mac users back when the iMac G4 was around will remember it, and have an opinion on its beauty because it really was beautiful, and memorable, and visible in all sorts of movies, adverts, TV shows, etc.

Anyway, I love my old 12" PowerBook more than any other laptop. I always thought the 15" PB/MBP looked a bit strange with the speakers sitting on the side like that. The 12" PB's keyboard had none of the excess space on the sides that the 15" and 17" PBs, MBPs, and 13" MacBooks have.

The phrase is "the Ti Book was revolutionary, not evolutionary. (I just like the ring of that.)

The one thing that is always a point on contention with other computer makes is the fact that they "steal" Apple's design after a while.

Compare the Ti-book with the older dell inspiron.

Or the newer dell inspiron with the current MacBook Pro.

(Running XP for the point of comparing... lol)

The sad thing is that it tells me the current MBP is going to get a redesign soon - hopefully.

I miss the old iBooks as well. I wish that Apple would model the next macbook after them, of course with a more modern design. Of course the next Macbook will probably look more like the current iPhone or Macbook Air. *sigh*

I've only been a Mac user for around 5 months now so can't say I have any experience with the back catalogue. My favourite Mac is the Alu iMac- it's been my first Mac and the best computer I've ever owned. I never get tired of people gawping and asking questions. I love this machine.

Texas, unfortunately.
Tough question. I couldn't think of a better machine then my iBook G4, of course. However, the iMac G3, Mac Plus, iBook (clamshell) iBook G3 (IceBook) and the iMac G4 are also awesome.

Actually, all the above listed, and anything with a G4 in it.

EDIT: Beaten to it. :) ^^

The PowerBook/MacBook Pro series. They have always been (in my experience) the ultimate balance of power and portability. Though my favorite Mac EVER is the one I'm using right now. :)

Hmm- design-wise, I still think the "Snowball" G4 iMac is one of my top faves - The 20 inch LCD model I have, still pulls duty as a graphics platform... and that arm is so easy to manipulate. Granted, an easily adjustable arm may not sound like a big deal - but I use it a lot to show customers standing next to me varying designs without having to have them crowd MY space. haha.
Dated, sure - but I still love it.

iBook!

n6907150_34014389_4672.jpg

I've been a PROUD mac user for the past 3.5 years. I had gone through mullltiple PCs (I was actually a member here already I THINK but I can't for the LIFE of me remember my username or the email I used to register oivey!)... I went through about 6 PCs. Finally, for college, I made the switch to a mac... I got a 12" iBook G4. This computer will be 4 years old in May and I LOVE EVERY DAY WITH IT! I am getting aboutttt ready to replace it, just for something newer and faster... but unless this computer actually STOPS working, I do not plan on getting rid of it! I love it so very much. Seriously. I brag about it daily.

(This picture was taken on my phone tonight, at 3:29amEST)

Ain't it great? When I got mine, I made 3 of my friends - all of whom had been PC users before hand, as had I - get macs. Two got the iBook, with the same configuration as mine (60gb hdd, 768mb ram, 1.2ghz processor), and the art major got the 12" PB.

That's how the community grows. My Boss had one, I tried it and loved his MacBook Pro. I bought one. My GF sees it and now wants an Air/MacBook. Soon, her parents or sister will want one.

Eventually, we'll be more populous than Windoze.

I had an iBook late 2002. I miss it. It was an eBay splurge and the logic board died six months later.
