white 2006 macbook , nuff sed

Really? Not that I don't like the computer... but the kids who were freshmen when I was a sophomore had that macbook. I tried it out, but I still actually found the iBook preferrable. I could see some of the lust in the black macbook. I REALLY want the new silver and black macbook. But the white one just never appealed to me. Does that make me a bad person? Please say something to change my mind - I want to like that computer. :)

If I was looking at a macbook at that time, I would have gotten the black one because it looked better and had better specs. Plus - I think having an old iBook make a bit of difference too.

How so? I'm a little confused by your response - whether you were agreeing with me that you preferred the iBook to the white macbook, or if you were saying that the white macbook blew the iBook out of the wawa.

I was agreeing. I liked the way the black one looked and the fact it had better specs.

I think if someone had owned an older white MacBook, he/she would be less likely to want a new white one. The Black would have better appeal.

AH. Yes, I agree. I don't understand why they didn't spec the white one better. It felt very underpowered and undersexy for apple.

The good side of the grass.
These are all okay but my fave has to be the 12" PB, hands down.

Is it me or does the trackpad look really really itsy bitsy tiny on the PB? I never really thought I'd need a big trackpad until my current MBP. It's so difficult when I need to use my GFs aging HP or my old compaq.

Oh and nice collection of laptops. I need to ask, why do you have three sitting on your desk?

The one that really sticks in my mind as being totally reliable, had a total symbiosis with the operating system it was running (8.6), and faster than its specs ever suggested, was the blue and white powermac G3. It just worked. Looks a bit naff in retrospect but hey....
All my colleagues were running the dark blue and silver G4s at the time and were constantly bitching about them - they were nowhere near as reliable. I just kept on with my G3, hardly ever crashing, probably more productive even with a 'slower' machine.

I remember those from elementary school. Used to download 50mb files of Simpsons clips. Those were the days...

Reminds me of the days of Zip Drives (I think I'm the only one who loved those.) CD drives w/o DVDs and CRTs.

Performa 575....

For me the winner is the Macintosh Performa LC 575...

It was my first mac so perhaps that's why I have a soft spot for it, I upgraded the RAM to 16MB, external 33.6 modem, she never missed a beat!

For looks I would go for the iMac G3 in graphite. My friend had one (I had the lime) and I was always jealous of the beautifully transluscent grey! The newer iMacs are more impressive looking but IMO lack the character of the original design.

My favorite Mac of all time is the iMac G4. Ever since the first day it came out, I thought the design was amazing.

I would love to have one of these now, but I think it would be too slow for me. For the past 3 years, I've thought about getting one off of eBay, but I never have.

I had the bottom of the range Indigo 350mhz G3 from the same period. As you say, it was a piece of design genius but to be fair desktop space was always a big issue for me and it did get on my t!ts after a while. I sold it not too long ago on eBay and reinstalled the supplied OS. Amazing thing was, I'd forgotten how good the sound was on those things - really rich, undistorted sound and capable of going surprisingly loud.

In 2000 I think you would have been hard pressed to have a smaller computer that wasn't a laptop. Having said that, the screen was not the best even though it was that that accounted for the wonderful aerodynamic shape, and yes, the speakers were really quite excellent though mine started distorting after a few years.

my first "professional" mac was a $10,000 IIFX, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for the Quadra 700... The Quadra 840AV was also a groundbreaking machine for its time...

Agree, I remember getting a Quadra 700 after having a IIFX for a couple of years - the speed jump was amazing at the time. First Mac I used was an SE (I think). I'm not gonna get nostalgic about that one. Trying to compose broadsheet property (realty) ads on one of those was not fun.

Actually four. There's a Powerbook G3 behind the stack. Maintenance time and once you start, just keep rolling while the screwdrivers out.

MB getting bad HDD replaced.
MBP getting an upgrade HDD
PB getting new battery
Air because that's what I use most the time

I usually only have two, the Air and a MBP.

I feel for this machine. It's awesome. However, I think the internal design of the current MP is highly awesome.
Just look at it:

I'd almost want to run it with the case open to get that view.
