iphone 8+ here crackling too :for me it's a hardware problem
because when a put a small pressure with one finger (very gentle) near eathpiece i hear one "click" , same noise with phone off
someone can test this ?
sorry for my bad english

I have the same singular "click" issue on my 8 Plus when I put my finger/ear on or near the earpiece as well as sometimes when I force touch the upper two rows of icons. I discovered the iPhone 7 "creak gate" thread when I looked for others with this problem (I recall another user on here with crinkling issues around the earpiece), seems like the i7/+ was creaking and clicking all over the place. Maybe a "feature" that came with the waterproofness? Now that we have two glass screens that need waterproofing, maybe the creaking/clicking is back from its grave? Which makes me think it might be unrelated to the crackling in the earpiece. It is suspicious though that the clicking/creaking in the 8 happens only around the earpiece..

I have the same issue on my AW3 when using LTE with some voice calls on the AW speaker. The AW speaker sounds fine for everything else and when the LTE call goes through the iphone. Im on ATT. When I call 611 and the recoding speaks it starts to crackle in his voice a bit.

What is AW3?

Im guessing Apple Watch Series 3
Thank you.. brain still not there on the whole making calls from a watch.
[doublepost=1506635069][/doublepost]Some research on LTE crackling, to an extent, seems to point to LTE HD audio issues.

I was getting this on 3G. Plus others have had it on FaceTime Audio.

My guess is that phone software is not filtering certain frequencies that cause the crackle. Normally the sound is processed to emphasize spoken conversation, but in this case, it might be amplifying background noise.

11.1 seems loads better on my 8. No crackles. Can’t tell if it might be a bit less clear (mostly on s’s) than my SE running 11.0.1, but it’s so hard to judge and can send you crazy trying to hear differences!

I am about fed up with my phone. The list of issues are down below. At this point I’ll be trading it in for a new phone same version (8 plus 256gb) and I’m going to keep trading it in until I get a phone with no issues. I won’t EVER buy a phone that just came out again. I know that much.

Crackle noise when other person is talking and only happens sometimes
Crackle noise when phone is off
Phone brightness adjust on its own only once
Portrait lock on and phone still moving happened twice
Other language symbol on phone with sun emoji where AT&T logo and bars is
Phone isn’t as fast

Many people like me, think that all iPhone 8 have the same problem... But someone don't listen It... So i think the only mode for pass this problem is update to iOS 11.1

I think my issues are past an update lol. I’m gonna try a t replacement.

So feedback on iOS 11.1 Public Beta seems positive. Installing now. Will test calls.

So far so good..
- 3 30 second voicemails - no crackle
- 2 1 min calls to UPS - no crackle
- 2 calls (a 1 min & 3 min) call to the Plantronics test line - no crackle.

I turned speaker phone on/off on the non-voicemail calls.

Added call to Apple line w/ dude that won’t transfer you to a person - no crackle.
[doublepost=1506650512][/doublepost]FWIW.. the new tap-time scroll to top in iOS 11.1 is SWEEEET.. it’s fast then slows down like the end of a Disney ride right as it gets to top.
[doublepost=1506650880][/doublepost]Another 2 min call to Plantronics test line. Several on/off with speakerphone. NO crackle.

Calls are stupid clear. No muffled. On one voicemail I heard someone cough in the background I never noticed before and listened to that voicemail at least 5-7 times. I’m in quiet environment but TV is on.

So far I’m impressed.
[doublepost=1506651180][/doublepost]Another 1 min call to UPS and no crackle. Very clear. I don’t use WiFi calling FWIW.
[doublepost=1506651416][/doublepost]Side note.. oh my goodness... iOS 11.1 on the 8 Plus is FAST. has me cracking up. Launch from resting/clicking is instant.

Any downside?

Hello! And how to transfer iphone 8 to DFU mode? The method from iphone 7 does not work.

I have a doubt, though, if it's a software problem, how do they just have some phones and not everyone? all have the same iOS 11.0 and some have problems and others do not .. why?

It could be a matter of tolerances in how the earpieces are built or installed. Or it could be different preamp manufacturers. A lot of variables in there. And maybe the software fix just compensates for different behaviors of different component manufacturing batches.
