I’m sure you are aware there is a reference mode and the ability to fine tune the settings. I’ve not tried it yet. But am interested in information from those that have any experiences.
The practicality of reference mode is limited by that you can't adjust brightness in it.

I might have bought the nano glass but simply have no need for 1TB of storage on an iPad. If the 512GB model had the option, I would have bit.

I have a 13" Nano on order because I find myself annoyed with glare and do use it frequently in the car and try to use it outdoors.

I was in the Apple Store and briefly played with both. I only looked thru the loaded pictures, comparing side by side.
I'm not a color professional by any means - so I don't have a 'fine' sense.
What I noticed was how much more 3 dimensional/immersive the Nano objects seemed vs. the glared images of the same pictures.
Also, the touch screen with a finger was way more grippier with the glossy than Nano which was pleasantly smooth. With a Pencil quick test, I couldn't tell the difference.
In some photos, there were more variations of grey with the regular screen vs. Nano - which was brighter but without the grey variations. That said, it was not always the case, so I don't know why some did and others didn't.

I'll have Apple care and will pay attention to potential screen damage! But I'm excited for June 7 -14.

Lisa

You could always just put a matte screen protector on. I’m guessing it’s not quite as good as the nano texture … but also … it’s way cheaper and it’s just fine IMO? I’ve been putting them on my 11” with cellular for a while now since it’s my travel device.

It’s funny how many people are saying just put a matte screen protector on. Almost none of them have ever seen the difference between a matte protector and the nano screen. The nano handles light and reflections a lot better and maybe even more important when the nano doesnt has to deal with uncontrolled light there is almost none difference in picture quality between the Nano and the glossy.

The nano is a great display. My office has harsh fluorescent lights. With the nano the reflections are barely noticeable. I don’t need 1TB of storage or 16GB of RAM on my iPad Pro. But since I can afford it I spent the extra money. Hopefully Apple expands the nano option to all tiers of the iPad Pro in future generations. It’s worth the extra $100 over the regular display IMO.

Is this some sort of revelation you’re giving to us? Everyone knows the nano texture has to be better, but I’ve seen it twice in person now and it’s not the second coming of Jesus. The issue is that one can pay an extra 600 dollars for the privilege of paying another 100 for the nano texture, or 20 bucks for a good matte protector. It can be hard to find a good one since nobody quotes specs for the matte characteristics, but I do like the one I have right now by Ambison. At some point I’d like to get one side by side and take some macro photos to see how much the difference is in the pixel structure.

As someone who has had Paperlike screen protectors on my 2018 IPP since day one, I am curious if anyone who has also used Paperlike compares it to the nano texture.

You guys are trppin'. I'm so glad I didn't listen to the people on here. I finally just got my 2TB 11' non-nano and 2TB 13 inch Nano in today, and the nano screen is ****ing BEAUTIFUL. I can't believe how good it looks. You have to basically be watching it in a pitch dark room to find something to complain about. Which is actually why I got the 11" non-nano because it will be used to watch movies and whatever in a dark hotel room while I'm away for work. Otherwise you will be using it in the light anyway.

A matte screen protector is NOTHING like this at all, and not a substitute, imo.

It is a little creepy how you can shine a light at it and you can see the light but not your own reflection.

Also, fingerprints are WAY worse on the glossy—like not even close. Makes me wonder if some of these people even really tried the nano and are just seeking attention with all these overblown stories of supposed returns

In any case, these threads are pointless as you NEED to see it for yourself in person. Reading text about something you need to see visually in person is really just a waste of time.

I sat in a dark room watching both screens last night viewing the same HDR video with both 13” Nano and Glossy.. Im returning the Glossy version.. I love the Nano. To me they look equally good For my chemistry the Nano shows a lot less fingerprints and stays cleaner.. I guess I have dry fingers compared to some others but less prints than on the glossy

My EXACT experience on the Nano iPad as well. I returned my glossy display and have been in love with my Nano. No reflections is a game changer, and 100% outweighs any near impossible to notice cons that come with it.

How many thousands of iPads are out there with the nano screen? If the Apple Pencil scratched them up, there would be outrage. I have a nano screen and an Apple Pencil and there is no way that happens.
Don't know what to tell ya, but it looked absolutely terrible.

Not much of a benefit from a good quality Anti-Glare/Smooth touch screen protector imo.

If I made a lot of money from drawing then I'd get it. Even if it wore out over time, I'd get another one.

It’s worth the extra $100 over the regular display IMO.

It would be $100 if it was an option for all models. From my perspective, it would cost me almost $900 more (based on local prices), considering I don’t need more than 256Gb.

Its not comparable in grip. The paperlike offers a much different (and better) feel than the Nano screen. The Nano does offer more grip than the glossy but it's not on the level of a Paperlike, not even close. What I will say is that there is a massive difference in how the screen looks. The Nano screen doesn't have the washed out look that a paperlike (or equivalent) matte screen protector has on an iPad.

Holding up very poorly at the Apple Store that handwritten hello did not rub off nor did that giant line in the middle. It looks like it’s permanent.

That's clearly just someone abusing the iPad. Its not indicative of normal use.

I’m really scratching my head over some of these responses.

If you go to an Apple Store, and look at the two devices side by side, the nano texture visibly has less contrast and more washed out blacks. The nano texture also has a haze / moire effect on white / light backgrounds, and the text is less sharp.

Where the nano shines, is that it reduces glare significantly.

I’ve looked at them side by side in an Apple Store 3 times. If the reduced glare of the nano texture is worth it you (and I can see why it would be), that’s brilliant. But claiming that the text is as sharp on the nano, and that the blacks are as deep, is way off the mark.

Here’s a review of the nano texture vs the glossy display that highlights these points also.

Have seen your comparison before. Yes, with bright direct light washed out colors and blacks on the nano and a lot of reflections on the standard. I totally agree with that.

What im missing and for me as being just an average iPad user was one oft the most important things. There is almost none difference in picture quality when you are in a controlled lighted room or when it’s dark. I know, i keep repeating that, but thats such an important fact that often isn’t mentioned. You dont get that quality with any matte screen protector.

Well, it’s bright light everywhere in the Apple Store. Even if you go there the 4th time. You should check the Nano under real life circumstances and you gonna see real deep blacks a lot.

I've got them both here too. In case anyone interested in a comparison, here is my post on reddit:

Great comparison. I’ve looked at both of them in store side by side multiple times and this’d has been my experience also (I went with the standard glass).

Can you also comment on the experience of viewing text? That’s what I found most off-putting on the nano-texture display. When reading text on white / light backgrounds, say on a webpage of a pdf, the nano texture has this moire / dirty screen effect that I found incredibly distracting.

Here are some things about matte displays that I've learned after reviewing countless pen displays and tablets over the years (on my blog and on youtube)

1. Matte screen protectors have a tendency to expand the diffused light to a much larger area. E.g. When used outdoors with bright lighting, the whole display may just be white. This is the reason why I stopped using matte screen protectors because I use the tablet outdoors often.

2. From photos I've seen, it looks like Apple is trying to replicate the surface of matte textured LCD displays. My ordered nano-texture iPad Pro is not here yet so I can't say much more.

3. Matte screen protectors can have varying degrees of smoothness or roughness. The smoother ones will not degrade the visual quality as much, but they won't have the tactile drawing experience. The rougher ones will feel nice to draw/write with, but they will add grain and colour noise to the display. ALL matte screen protectors will add grain and colour noise (or rainbow effect) to the display, it's just a matter of how much.

4. The nano-textured display can be probably be cleaned by non-Apple micro fiber cleaning cloth. People are not gonna read the instructions that says to use the Apple cleaning cloth. Human behaviour will tell people to use any micro-fiber cloth they have, or wipe it with their t-shirt.

5. Regarding the anti-glare. You will seen many people show reflections on the glossy display in Youtube videos. In the real world, the display will be facing your face which does not emit light. Most of reflections will likely come from lights behind you, not from above, unless you're outdoors.

6. Apple's anti-reflective coating is very effective. Together with the increase OLED brightness, the light from the display should go through the reflection so you won't even see reflection of your face. This is already so even on iPad Pros with LCD.

7. To prevent the Apple Pencil tip from gliding too smoothly on the display, one can use a matte screen protector, or get a US$2 silicone pen tip from AliExpress.

It's not permanent.

It's just the pen tip reapplying the hand oil/grease across the display. You can do that on glossy display too. Go test that on a glossy display.

During daytime in the living room, even i have no window behind me, i can easily see the reflection of my face, of course only in black areas of the display. And that’s the problem with videos, mostly with movies and tv shows, there are always a lot of scenes in the dark. Of course this is not a iPad problem, its with every glossy screen.
