I would not be so hasty on canceling so soon. I think he ran it as 32 bit and I think the new iMacs are 64 bit which would change the readings. I am not positive on this so don't quote me just yet.

I agree, I don't see why cancel now after you've waited so long already. It's only few weeks left. There's no real benchmark on games or programs that actually utilize the GPU yet. Unless you really need one now, then I'd go ahead and get the regular one.

Did you run the 64 Bit Version? Did you buy the Geekbench software to run the test or do it only in trial mode? Just curious
hmm, I probably ran the 32-bit version. Trial mode. I have installers running now, so I can't run any benchmark again at the moment.

Seriously, I don't care a lick about benchmarks; I only ran those for the benefit of users on this forum. Anyone else who is into the details is welcome to post your own results, and get it right-er than I did.

I agree with you regarding the benchmarks too. I know that ATI is way better than Nvidia because it has always been that way. Apple would not have said in their brochure if you want the Ultimate in Graphics then choose the ATI 4850 over the Nvidia GT130 otherwise they could get sued for misrepresentation. I am happy with getting the HD4850 and not too worried for the gaming thing. I did not buy it to play games. Though I do play games. I am into more movie editing and rendering speeds. Not sure if the HD 4850 will help in that department or not but I am willing to take the chance.

Ok, didn't really want to start a whole new thread just for this quick question, but does anyone know if your order can change from "not yet shipped" to "Processed" etc on the weekends?
I am waiting from a call about my order status but now wont hear back from Apple until Tuesday due to weekend and then Easter Monday Hols here, so just wondering if I might still see movement on my order before then.
A simple "yes it changes on weekends" or "no it doesn't" would be fine.

Thanks very much!

Apple is not the concern here. It is usually Federal Express that does the delivering for Apple. Yes they run on weekends but, even if you chose overnite they will not deliver on Saturdays unless you request Saturday Delivery and that is super expensive. They usually do run and deliver on Holidays at least in the USA.

Sorry it could not be answered in 1 simple sentence. ;)

Not fair...

I ordered my iMac w/ 4850 on March 22 (yes, I know others ordered earlier). My ship date has stayed April 27th.

Yesterday, a friend of mine ordered the exact same machine as I did and his ship date is April 22. That's 3 business days before mine!!! WTF?

did no one else notice that the benchmarks were performed on cpu + ram, and NOT on the graphic cards?

lol @ "there's only 5% difference."

anyway, whoever is able, please run graphic benchmarks, on games, or some other software which utilizes the video card, and also gpu-z if you're running windows.

Funny how things work out, well actually it is not funny. :(

also, the extra money isn't that much, so...

Not like they are ripping people off or anything. It is better to wait for real full benchmarks (no offense to guys already posting their impressions, etc.)

I did notice that after you mentioned it so it really was not a fair test between the two video cards Nvidia GT 130 and ATI HD4850. I guess we will have to wait for some real results later on.

It would really be awesome if we could get some real benchmarks from folks who have these shiny new video cards... benchmarks that can be stacked up with ones performed in Barefeats thread.

Some of us really want to know how these cards actually perform in gaming, etc, to determine if we should cancel our orders or not.

After waiting this long, you would actually go through with it and cancel your order? The ATI HD4850 is a better card over the Nvidia regardless of the bench tests. I don't see why people would even consider that except to save a few days. It will not be long before everyone will have the iMacs in your hands. After waiting this long I would not cancel but the final decision is yours of course. But if some of you cancel I am willing to bet that some of those who do cancel will regret their canceling later on.

i'm not going aywhere, i can't wait for the ATI,
i never really favored Nvidia, so i'll keep the order, i just expected more,

Don't we need 10.5.7 for optimized drivers for the 4850? In other words, are benchmarks actually worth anything before 10.5.7 hits?

That could be. I heard rumors that the HD4850 will benefit from 10.5.7 but we will have to see. I bet 10-5-7 will arrive sometime this month. They are only waiting for better support for Safari 4.0 for 10.5.7 to be released. That is what is holding up the release of 10.5.7.

You guys in UK are lucky :) . . . as I ordered on the 30th and still no status change for me. Only drawback for you is knowing that it has shipped but takes 10 days to get to you. Once mine ships I will get it next day. So once I see my shipping my wait time while shipping will be short but my wait until shipping is long. :( So it all evens out.
