How could this be his phone?

#1 you need new iTunes to activate
#2 if he did activate, apple would be very suspicious

You expect CNBC to be bias against anything that isn't Microsoft, since they have conflicting interests, having tied deals with MSNBC. But they have been brutal this week.

Edge Benefits: 1.Reasonably fast connections to the internet, not blazingly fast.
2. Lower cost/month than 3G connections, by a lot!
3. MUCH LOWER BATTERY DRAIN!

Just my $.02

MSNBC is the political wing of the network. CNBC is the financial wing and it is so pro Apple and iPhone it is shocking.

EDGE is only 2.5G, yes, but it is very widely deployed because it is not only the Blackberry network, but the one used for government and military users. Hence the early wide deployment and the early adoption of (Crack) Blackberries by government employees and appointees.

I for one am glad that LxTxNx scooped this and used macrumors to do so. Yes he doesn't answer some questions and he is not gushing with information, but he does do what rumor sites need. Say stuff that is real, fresh, new, and cool. Kudos.

I'm curious too about the way it treats asian sites, even tough I personally don't use them.

Maybe we should give him some misspelled lines to type in to check the spelling check feature.

He also shows it with the earphone plug installed which you hardly ever see. I would like to see him post a movie of him putting it in and out of the dock.

I would like to see 80% fewer negative posts. We have heard it. We get it. We can interpolate them without them actually being posted.

Rocketman

Edit: For those asking him to post EDGE bandwidth speeds there was a VERY detailed report posted to a macrumors thread by a technician a couple of days ago. Bottom line, typical 18-24 seconds to load a page. Faster than dial-up by about 3x or so.

No, I think you missed the entire rest of this thread... Maybe if you would've read it you would know (which you probably should have realized even without reading) that this is a store demo model

Please post the exact inventory you have at your store, along with the serial number of the model you are using, the exact bandwidth for both Wi-fi and EDGE in various environmental conditions, bootup speed for each application, signal-to-noise ratio of the iPod, reflectivity of the screen, optimum viewing angle and the hypothetical frames-per-second calculation of Halo if it were able to run on the iPhone.

You have five minutes to answer me. If you don't provide me with the answers I seek within the time specified, then I will post messages about how you're nothing but a show off and how I hope you get fired for revealing confidential information even though I just finished asking you for confidential information.

Oh, and how come your phone said "Im" huh? Come on, answer now!!!

I'm not mean spirited, he isn't sharing his experiences, he is parading the fact that he has it and we don't. I'm all for sharing information but if he really wanted to he could have FLOODED us with info. Instead he is enjoying the attention and the exclusivity he is feeling right... I am merely telling him to enjoy it while it lasts. If i had the iPhone today I would not only be enjoying the phone but I would be supplying this board info and if I didnt want to I wouldn't put up an intial post in the first place.

Look first off all let me clarify this he is not getting fired because he is simply telling us what we already know and if your hear running you cheap keyboard about i hope he enjoys his last minutes as an at&t worker maybe you should go off and think he is not gonna tell us new stuff so we can all be surprised at the end damn you guys are all telling him he is gonna get fired because he took time out of his life to notify that the phone arrivied at the store and you guys aresaying e is rubbing it in your face well he is not he just said its a store model not my iPhone

EDIT

You act like it would be hard to find out. AT&T could staff it to a team who'd get an intern to look. The intern would be computer savvy and bam, he is toast. AT&T can could check and see if one of their iphone demo demo units is being used on the internet before it is allowed. This guy was stupid for going to macrumors on it.

I am sure the MOD would delte this post of his picture and every other post because he simply just informed us that the product arrived at the store and calling someone stupid isnt that against the rules maybe you should read a little

I DID read the whole thread, and that's why I said this is not HIS model. It clearly belongs to the store. There was still debate on whether it was HIS. NOT whether it was real.

I also required the bandwidth be measured under various environmental conditions, at the very least rain, snow, hail, tornado (f5 or higher), and volcanic ash.

Is that thing really that accurate? It lists my speed at 3Mbps - I've got 5.5+ (just downloaded a file from apple at over 700KBps so it can't be 3).

I suppose it could be that it doesn't work that well for really fast speeds. I always use speakeasy but I'm pretty sure that's flash...

look, you're not going to get an answer on meebo until you buy one yourself, or you read about it AFTER the phone has been released to the general public tomorrow.

like some posters have said, the only information that he has released has been information that was already public knowledge. think about it: apple isn't going to release information on a competitor's service freely if they have something of their own that they're working on.

consider that apple delayed the release of Leopard by several months to dedicate engineers, the timing of which indicates they were SOFTWARE engineers, to iPhone development and refinement. that says to me that they have pending features that could be properly tested, refined and polished in time for the late june launch.

so, what does that suggest? to me, that says things like full IM capabilities, full ringtone capabilities and things like that are on the way as soon as they can get them. these things are industry standard features for high-end phones and a lot of low-end phones. do you really think apple is ignorant of that? hardly. they're much more savvy than us forum-posting schlubs.

leave the poor guy alone. he's not going to answer questions that can get him in trouble, and he's not going to show you things he's not allowed to, especially not after making himself easily identifiable.

so lay off and be patient. they only thing you're going to do is make it less likely that he'll answer any further questions(which you should be able to answer on your own anyway, when it comes to features and specifications).

Guys, people at HowardForums are claiming they are seeing a huge increase in their EDGE speeds as of tonight. They are averaging EDGE speeds of 200kb/s (25KB/s), which is the real world max for EDGE.

If that speed can be sustained even after the max influx of iphone users hop onto the network tomorrow, I'll be a happy camper.

200kb/s (25KB/s) is not bad at all! Much better than the 40-80kb/s (5-10KB/s) EDGE was previously getting.

http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

Doesn't use flash or java I believe. :)

Hey LxTxNx, make sure you choose Wireless: EDGE. I just tried this on my Unlocked T-Mobile Blackberry 8700 using EDGE on Cingular's network in my apt with 4 out of 5 bars, my speed is: Who knows.

My effen Blackberry is getting Error: Bad Key

I chose EDGE, GPRS and then Dial-up as my options. Let me know if this work on the iPhone. Either way, I'll post results after I get my iPhone tomorrow. :)

inventory numbers again

i just talked to an at&t clerk. i said "how many iphones?" he said "70."

i posted the above on page 6, but no one seems to have noticed.

seems likely to me that based on my info above, all at&t stores will be getting 70 or more iphones. i don't exactly live in tech central, usa.

I DID read the whole thread, and that's why I said this is not HIS model. It clearly belongs to the store. There was still debate on whether it was HIS. NOT whether it was real.

Why should we care if its his own or belongs to the store?

Here's my test result run 2 minutes ago on my TREO 680 using AT&T EDGE - speed seems about on par with what I'm used to, maybe a little snappier. I'm in North Seattle, at home, with 5 bars...

Speed
337.2 kilobits per second
Communications 337.2 kilobits per second
Storage 41.2 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 24.9 seconds
Subjective rating Not bad

and the same test (the bandwidthplace link above) on my G wifi network at home via Comcast cable - usually super-fast, but testing slow today - though I don't notice the difference in browsing today.

Personal test results

Speed
1.5 megabits per second
Communications 1.5 megabits per second
Storage 179.7 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 5.7 seconds
Subjective rating Good

I'm feeling pretty good about EDGE based on this...
