Same problem

OK folks, old thread, but same problem.
With a bit of luck, the no one will flame me, for asking.
I need a to learn how to bypass the password on my grandson's iPhone.
The boy kid is 14, and sometimes his brain goes out to lunch without telling his body. LOL He locked his phone to keep his little brother from using it, while he was at camp (no cell phones allowed). Two weeks later he returns home, only to have forgotten his own %^& password!!

Not sure which model, but got it last Christmas. He called Apple, but the told him he was S.O.L., tired to connect it to the computer, but no luck.

Do a DFU restore.

It might help if you explain what DFU means, since not everyone is an iPhone expert.

DFU stands for Device Failsafe Utility (DFU). For more information on how to use this DFU to restore your iPhone.

DFU stands for Device Firmware Update, not what you wrote. I thought what you wrote was wrong, but then I had to open the link to make sure my brain wasn't fried. Didn't you even read the link you gave? :)

Edit: Oh, and I thought it was pretty amusing how people kept responding to the OP years after this thread was opened. It would die and then get opened again, and again.

How dow you know your brain is not fried?

I find it odd when everyone spends to the time to respond to post by saying "try search, "try google", or some other silly response. Posting "use DFU" is just a silly for most posters since if the individual like "Robin" knew what DFU was they would not have bothered to post a long question asking for help...

My post was done in the same form are I thought the two (2) previous responses were made, an attemt at humor but somewhat on topic. Please notice the  with the comment about iPhone expert. Robin, would most likely be best served by a link rather then just "Do a DFU restore..."

The post from "robinpow" appears to be a vaild post related to the topic, to the topic is still valid and we see this type of thread all the time. It sure beats having 4-5 threads about MMS per hour.... :D

Okay, I don't think you understand what I typed in my edit. I was referring to the people who kept telling the OP how to fix his problem, when it was over a year after the OP made the post. I don't have a problem with robinpow reopening the thread; that's what you're supposed to do, when you have the same problems, instead of reopening thread after thread (on say MMS, like you wrote).

Also, I thought it was good that you provided the link for DFU Restore. I was just correcting what it stood for (even thought it's in the link), so that newbies wouldn't go on to use the wrong terminolgy if they didn't read the link.

Typed too much here, but I wasn't trying to irritate you. Sorry!

this is actually debated quite a lot in the forums. The whole idea of restarting an old thread.

Generally speaking, its frowned upon simply because people's first reaction is to read the first post and then respond. If you did that for this thread, you would be responding to a 2 year old post.

At the same time, people always say search for your answer before starting a new thread.

Conclusion: there isn't a general consensus as to the proper way of handling old threads but my take is if you have something additional to add to the first post (answering their specific question while every other post has failed at answering it) then its safe to bump the thread and respond.

In this case with this thread, it was not appropriate to bump the thread. You should have just started a new thread with your problem since you did not have anything to add to the posts that were made in 2007.

You guys are mean

Not knowing a passcode does not mean it is stolen neccessarily. I bought iPhones for my husband and 15yr old son. My husband and I split up and he gave me back the iPhone when he got his own service. Then, on a single income I cancelled my sons iphone also. So now I have two iphones and my husband can't seem to remember his passcode (he does but the code he gave me does not seem to work)? so that I can sell it. My son for whatever reasons cant remember his.

So here I am researching how the hell to reset the all settings cuz I have a friend who would like to help me out and buy the damn phone, without having to drive 45 minutes away to the apple store. Frustrating

So besides driving to the apple store is there anything I can do to reset all settings, and I swear they are not stolen!!! Believe me I paid the 400.00 for the damn things!

lol almost the same thing happened to me
but my friend gave me his old iPhone and didnt know the password, just hold the power button and the home button at the same time for as long as it takes to get to a plug with an arrow to itunes and plug it to ur comp
worked for me,...hence this being written on my iPhone

uber frustration, my *****ing fone decided to set a passcode itself while in my hand, i hate this touch screen crap...games suck everything is worse on a touch screen...I've decided screens are for watching and buttons are for pressing if I reset the factory setting my phone will no llonger be jailbroken. Meaning it will be equally as useless to me. WTF do I do?

If you have an iPhone 3GS you cannot restore now if you hope to jailbreak. Doing a restore will upgrade your firmware to 3.1, which cannot yet be jailbroken. It will also upgrade your baseband, making it impossible to unlock for the foreseeable future.

If you have an iPhone 3G, you can still shift-restore (alt-restore for mac) and select the jailbreakable 3.0.1 firmware. But you cannot do this with the 3GS.

Hellp!

Can you help me by tellin me how to get my pw i forgot?

logged in just for this

I am a long time blackberry user who just upgraded to the new storm and signed a 2 year plan

I have a 1st gen ipod touch 16gig and a 80gig classic.

I found an iphone. have no idea what kind. it says 16 gig on the back and has a white back cover. The screen is shattered with some of the pieces missing. I found it on the floor of a bar in SC. Bar name "village idiot" ( I think ) I live in NC and was in SC for the Florida South Carolina football game on November the 14th. I tried to turn it in to the bar but they took one look and said "not gonna be responsible. It looks ruined anyway. Give it to a cop"

Long story short I am home now and am trying to do the right thing. Apple Care told me to call ATT after holding forever. ATT could not process the number on the SIM after telling me how to get it out and directed me to a local factory store. I called them and they said to drop it off and maybe they could find the owner.

I am not going to drop it off only to have it repaired/resold/stolen by staff. I left them my contact number and the sim card number.

I have posted this story on some "lost iphone/found iphone" and heva yet to hear anything.

I am sure I could call someone in the library if I could get into it. It was dead (battery) but I charged it on my docking.

I don"t want to try too much on my PC because I am terrified that a red flag will go up and someone may get the wrong idea. I have lost my BB before with hundreds of contacts that i could not restore and am REALLY trying to do the right thing.

Is there another site or anything else I can do to try to return this phone outside of giving it away to employees of an att store? Trying to be honest and nice is becoming a hassle.

Thanks for help and forgive the long post :)

So where'd you buy the stolen iPhones for them? Seriously, there is no easy way and I don't want there to be otherwise my data is not protected on my locked iPhone.

And yes, I know this is an old thread but it is one of the living dead and no wooden stake or other charm will kill it so we might as well enjoy it LOL.

My Iphone is locked for 20,983,744 minutes!!!

Hi,

I left my Iphone over my sisters house and my nephew attemped to use it, Btw his is 3yrs old!! Now i cannot even enter my password, it says the iphone is disabled try again in 20,983,744 minutes!!! Any suggestions for me??

Hi all,
I seem to have forgotten my iphone passcode that I set in the menu. And because I cannot connect to the computer without it, I can't even do a restore. Is there any way around this?

Yet another unlock issue

I forgot my password.

I've read the thread and I understand that I need to restore to factory settings and then restore it from a back up.

This makes no sense to me and doesnt work, as whan the phone is restored from the backup, it just restores the password that I can't remember and I'm back to the same issue.

I am entering and new password after I restore it to factory settings and that just gets wiped out by the backup.

what am I missing?

I have a 3Gs. I am doing the factore restore from inside iTunes with the iPhone hooked up.

Not Everyone are Thieves

I'm in the navy, and I have a friend who bought an Iphone from Softbank in Japan. I was there when he bought it. On the Ship, we HAVE to set an alarm to wake up in the mornings. My friend was using his Iphone as his alarm clock, and didn't wake up for the alarm. In a berthing with over a hundred people sleeping there, you get tired of hearing someone elses alarm going off, but to the point. He didn't wake up to his alarm, and while he was still sleeping, someone took his phone and messed with it and put a password on it so he couldn't access it. I mean it is stupid that he didn't put a password on there himself to begin with, but now he can't use his phone. Is there ANY way to restore the phone legitimately. He has receipts from the purchase and everything, he just needs to restore it. Bear in Mind that this a Japanese locked Iphone, and he's tried all of these methods but so far nothing.
