These little critters are very tough to shot - they are very sensitive and only seem to land for a few seconds and they are only about an inch across - that was the challenge for me.
I was down in the grass for this one - never a good idea. I did get stung by something but not as bad as the spider that bit me the year before - that was quite interesting.

Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/9.0
Focal Length: 300 mm

This one was tough because the only place to sit/stand was in a dead and dried out thistle patch - not comfortable. Thats probably why it could be better in the focus department.

Hey guys/gals;
Nice images here!

I'm posting from Japan on my business trip, back Saturday 12/12.
Working too late for any good/decent daytime shots, I've taken some early morning shoots.

Here is one of my fav shot (prior POTD):

Winter has yet to come and I'm already thinking of the summer . I don't know if I posted this one already. Every time I look at this picture I just can't wait for the summer to get started again.... this is one of my favorites. Just looking at it makes me feel relaxed ;)

Very nicely composed, your shot puts me in a relaxing mindset, even though it's 6am here in the Japan hotel I'm staying at right now and I miss my family...

Thanks for the comment deep diver.

Nice shots Chappers, mtbdudex, LumbermanSVO, & tompon1923. Nice group of favorite photos!!

The butterflies are a tough subject Chappers. Usually takes luck and patience for me to get anything decent.

A few others. (clickable)

All of this and a corneal injury. Simon, photography is not good for your health.

I'm going out on a limb here, so bear with me. I've never posted in a Fortnightly Challenge, but I figured this might be a good time to show off some of my (amateur) work. Some of you may have seen a few of these in the Photo of the Day thread.

Posting a favourite image taken during the challenge period is cool and its a nice photo - did you enhance it?

This was the first time my daughter played in the snow, she immediately did a face plant!
Cool shot - brings back memeories of my own sons snow experience - I filmed mine.

This is a beautiful shot and yes it makes me want the summer back. I'd PS out the thingy on the bottom left but it is still a lovely shot.

Nice shots - I like when I get a feel of the environment around the butterfly or insect. You are right they are tough even from a depth of field point of you and if they are in the wild - hell its tough.

All of this and a corneal injury. Simon, photography is not good for your health.
An artist must suffer

More Maui
At some point I think we should have a challenge on flowers - they are tough.

Welcome to the thread. Its pretty laid back here - we try to comment on every photo and have a good time. I've seen your work before - and these are stunning - love them.

Hi Maxx. We've missed you. These images are, as usual, outstanding. I really like the kid with the flag.

These are good. You've been able to capture some real personality. I am not liking the first shot. I think the lighting is not flattering.

Good that you have found time to please us. I really like the spurs and high-heels. That photo has a unique look and feel to it. I remember your July 4 Child and the tattoo shot from POTD. I really like the soft feel that both have. Excellent work.

Thanks, she is real fun to shoot because she is totally indifferent to the camera being there and she is always doing something.

This is her last 4th of July at Ocean Shores, WA.

Very interesting - and good morning.

Thank you (I think). "Interesting" is what I call a "non-word." It is meaningless outside of some defining context.

Larimar is a pectolite -- an acid silicate hydrate of calcium and sodium. It is found in the Dominican Republic. The photo does convey some of the depth in the layers of this mineral, but it is much richer in person.

Good night. I need to get some sleep. I have an outing in the morning to shoot an 85 year old synagogue. After that, I get to hear my kid play his sax at an informal concert. It will be a great day.

Bruce - sorry. "Interesting" does not do justice to this picture - I am rarely inspired to want to play with a picture but this shot dragged me away to Photoshop.

My foot in mouth answer reflects for me the depth of my impatience to answer (way to briefly) and work with this multi-layered master piece in great deceptive photography.

Again I find myself asking for a full sized copy to work with - not to improve it, as I love the original - but to work with it - to discover.

Here are a few examples of what I've done starting with the original.

Any critique to make the photo better are highly welcome and appreciated. Thanks
