Did anyone try Eaget s450 1tb SSD (2242)? I live in China and can't get my hands on Sabrent, looking for alternatives but it seems 2242 options only available with 512gb.

I was doing 500MB on both because my SSD 128GB was almost full which reduced its speed haha

So a very significant speed improvement - Almost full drives make any computer slow, specially those with less main memory. My Mac mini that I upgraded to 32GB does practically no swapping to the SSD

Never heard of that manufacturer.

This looks like a 3rd party M17 I just came across:

Has anyone tried this one yet? I’ve only seen used Apple ones in this format.

I have not managed to pull that item out of Amazon with that link. I would be curious to see what we are talking of

It's just a rebranded 3rd party drive on an adapter just like what's shown at the start of the thread.

I have just installed a Sabrent 512GB 2242 with the adaptor and all, so far, is finally going well. I opened up a Samsung X5 that I have to use as a caddy to do the clone. With SuperDuper and the present version of Catalina, I had problems and the Sabrent was not bootable wither externally in the X5 case or internally. I finally tried Carben Copy and all seems fine - so far at least. I will post pre and post BlackMagic tests soon, the smaller Sabrent is a bit slower, but this laptop is only used when away from my Mac Mini, so I am sure it is fast enough.

I had no big issues with the work, just have to be very careful!

Is it possible to see what 2242 or 2230 drive is used?

Awesome man, happy to hear you had great sucess with it.
Honestly, if you look at benchmarks and testing 1400 MBPS drives vs 3000 there is almost zero difference you can tell man.

Enjoy it! Also take some pics for us, ill toss it on my OP for people to understand better.

I totally agree with that speed, even 1400 is fast, and if you are not reading and writing massive files, the difference is unnoticeable

I had planned to take some pics, but as it got complicated with the SuperDuper clone not working, I completely forgot. I must make the effort to take off the back case and take some 'after' pics - But it is a quite easy job and took me about 15/20 minutes once the clone was working. As always, just go carefully.

Good day everyone. I found 2230 ssd which should fit the adaptor (M Key). do you guys think the 2230 size will perform the same or it have to be 2242? Apart from the length, is there any specific technical differences between those two?
thank you

I see no reason why it should not perform similar. Does Hynix not quote Read and Write speeds?

If you fit it, please run Black Magic tests before and after so we can compare.

this is the information from Hynix website for above SSD. Looks like it will have the same speed as original MBP SSD , not as fast as Sabrent (refer to previous post in this thread also). However, i cannot find info whether this SSD is DRAMLess or not

Looks good, though probably real life speeds will be lower. But to be honest In normal everyday use, unless very large files are written and read a lot, it is difficult to appreciate the difference of a couple of hundred MB/s at least for me.

Where have you found you can buy this from? Somewhere easy to return if it does not work? Is it cheaper than the proven Sabrent?

I am from Indonesia and found this in local online shop. the seller informed it was OEM parts from Dell Inspiron 5490. Some buyers upgrade the SSD when purchased the notebook, thus they can sell the unused SSD for only 65 USD (512 GB). i think it will worth to try. as for adapter, i am ordering online from China, should arrive within this month.
Thank for the advice

I will later on, i just ordered the adapter from aliexpress and it just shipped today, it should arrive next week.
Actually, i am still considering whether to use the SSD as external first because my current MBP 2017 still have apple warranty until Jan'21. I think upgrading this SSD will void the warranty. Or incase something happen and I swab the original SSD back, is it possible apple guy won't notice it? from the procedure, looks like no seal will be broken, just the black tape over the original SSD should be replaced. what do you think?

Probably if they look carefully they would see it has been opened and the SSD changed, even if you put it back - the black tape would never have the same fit, I think. Not sure if they would then void your warranty. Have you also ordered a external case?

not yet, i will try the SSD in my PC Motherboard first (i have dedicated PC for Gaming). If it works, i'll order external case later for the SSD. i will update the speed test for this SSD as reference later on after it arrive.

There's a video on YouTube, guy claims Hynix has hibernation issues
