Yeah I did, but disconnecting one hasn’t helped, nor did the hard power off.

Turn machine completely off.
Connect only 1 monitor. Not via HDMI and without signal converters. (DP>mDP is not a signal converter.)
Turn machine back on.

What happens after 5 minutes?

Hi i just found this forum. I have a late 2013 iMac and have had problems with the cuda install since i upgraded to high sierra, saying it needs updating when i have the updated version already installed. Along with random restarts after i put it to sleep and 30 seconds start up from sleep instead of instant.
So i decided to install gain the web driver which there was a new version out. I usually just click on use default mac os graphics driver and use that. I have a geforce 755m which is pretty rubbish anyway.
I installed the new version fine then it said to check for updates, which i did and it said there was a newer version. So i installed that as far as the pop up to go to security, as soon as i clicked to open system preferences the mac shut down and tried to restart. it got 3/4 and got stuck with the cog going round and the status bar stopped. i tried a smc reset with no luck, i then clicked shift and got in using safe mode to find neither drivers had installed, i then tried installing the first driver i found myself which had been fine, it restarted and got stuck again.
The only way i could get into my mac was to use alt-cmd-p-r and keep holding it down until the 2nd chime, then it started fine. This may help assoc get his machine started.
I have managed to install the driver i found and clicked on nvidia web driver to use. But i see no difference. I have only tired it in P.S. CC where i was having trouble with brush stokes, that is still the same. I havn't tried it in WOW yet. The reason i found this forum is i was trying to find what my mac os graphics card actually is ( i know nothing about graphics cards) but in the system report under software/disabled software i found
6KR3T733EC - com.nvidia.web.NVDAGV100HalWeb: which led me here. So i guess my nvidia card isn't even working, is that correct? So should i go back to the mac os graphics card or just leave it. or even try and fix it some more? not knowing graphics cards, i have no idea what i am doing here :(

Only last thing to try would be trying to VNC in from another machine after cold boot (NOT restart). If not, turn machine off and swap EFI GPU in. You'll be able to access a lot more tools and see if there's anything to confirm before proceeding.

See a few posts back (#4634) for safe mode via EFI GPU or https://support.apple.com/kb/ph25617.
I swapped in my EFI gpu but can’t seem to boot even in safe mode. I managed to boot another disk so I think it’s time to reinstall the os.

I usually just click on use default mac os graphics driver and use that.

Anytime you use the default macOS graphics driver, CUDA will NOT be enabled. You MUST use the NVIDIA Web Driver for CUDA on Mac to activate. CUDA must also be installed separately. That is directly from NVIDIA support almost a year ago when asking about the driver and CUDA performance on a GTX 680 (Mac Version) and on MBP with GeForce GT 750M.

What macOS version & build number are you using? Latest versions:
macOS 10.13.6 (17G65)
CUDA Driver Version: 396.148
GPU Driver Version: 387.10.10.15.15.108

Unless all of those versions are being used, there is a conflict somewhere.

I have no firm idea if the 2013 iMac has only an NVIDIA GPU or if it is a hybrid/dual GPU (like the late 2013 Mac Book Pro) that contains both an NVIDIA GPU and an Intel. The late 2013 MBP has a hybrid/dual GPU with an Intel Iris Pro and GeForce GT 750M. To exclusively use the NVIDIA GPU, you need to select it in System Preferences > Energy Saver and disable automatic graphics switching.

This is what it looks like on the MBP:

If you are POSITIVE the EFI GPU is installed correctly, with the correct power cable, seated correctly, and with only 1 monitor connected, then you should try an NVRAM reset first. You can see the instructions in the installer:

Ah, that did it. I’m not sure what to do next though. My EFI GPU is an AMD so I can’t really use it to test driver stuff.

Thank you, sorry didn't realise this was MacBook, didnt realise there was so much difference. Looks like my crappy graphics card is from a laptop anyway lol.
It dosn't look like the iMac's have automatic graphics switching.
my macOS and cuda are correct (although cuda is saying is need to update, but there is nothing to update to) it's he GPU driver that is the problem. I'm on 387.10.10.10.40.105. The one you have shown is the one i get when i click check now (for latest driver). But that is the one i had the problem with, when it asked to verify permissions i clicked to go to system preferences and it shut the machine down and i couldn't get back in without holding down CMD-ALT-P-R until the 2nd chime. I'm a bit scared to try it again :(

Make sure the driver is INSTALLED first. It should still show in system preferences, just not activated. Did you have to ALLOW anything to give permissions? MIGHT not hurt to reinstall the driver with the AMD installed.

This is a MacPro forum. Just own a MBP and MP, both with NVIDIA and NVIDIA web driver so familiar with process...

You are not on the correct driver versions. Best to reinstall them if the checks are not working correctly. That happens sometimes.

These are the latest versions for 10.13.6 (17G65)
Web Driver 387.10.10.10.40.105: https://images.nvidia.com/mac/pkg/387/WebDriver-387.10.10.10.40.105.pkg
CUDA for Mac 396.148: http://us.download.nvidia.com/Mac/cuda_396/cudadriver_396.148_macos.dmg

It’s installed but turned off. Nothing shows up to allow right now.

Nothing in Security & Privacy?

In System Report > Software > Extensions what version of the NVIDIA drivers are loaded? Sort by date last modified and provide a screenshot with the extension names. You should see 10.33.0 for all versions and an entry for NVDAGV100HalWeb, which is a new extension for the Volta drivers.

Is the NVIDIA Driver Manager Preferences loading at startup and shown in the menu bar?

Thanks Bsbeamer i will try again although those are the ones i have installed now. it's the one that you posted earlier: GPU Driver Version: 387.10.10.15.15.108 that is giving me the headache, i can't get it to go to system preferences to allow it to install without it shutting my machine down. Thats the version i get when i check for new updates...guess i will have to stick with it being a problem for now. Just a pain when things are glitchy, checked WOW and P.S. CC, both glitchy. But at least i can get into my machine, guess it will do for now, thanks for all your help :)

Have you gone into System Preferences > Security & Privacy to see if there is an ALLOW button for NVIDIA at the bottom? Also, must be set to allow apps downloaded from App store and identified developers. You'll need to click the LOCK at the bottom left of the window to make any changes.

So swapping to an amd gpu, zapping the pram, reinstalling the drivers, and then swapping the gpu back in worked for me. Thanks for the help.

Yes i did that, and there is no allow button for it. I'm wondering whether i can roll back to Sierra. I only upgraded because of the Kernal problem. I had no other problems with it. I just don't want to lose anything.

Make sure both SIP and Gatekeeper is ON, otherwise, you may not see them.

What I found is that keep both OFF usually work best. And partially ON is the most problematic.

Thank you! You are a star! That worked! I switched off both. Now my web driver and CUDA have no error messages, my machine wakes from sleep straight away, not had chance to test the random restarting yet. I can only use it when clicked on nvidia web drivers. If i try default mac os graphics drivers, the web driver is fine and updated with new version, but they CUDA is saying the web driver isnt updated, even though it is installed. My WOW and P.S.CC are still glitchy and laggy and freezing, but i'm hoping they will come up with a fix for it. If not i may have to roll back. But atm i'm just happy it's slightly better then before lol...Thank you! :)

not sure if anyones posted about this here

but the latest web driver update seems to bring Volta support...

Yes, noted that a few posts back. Think it's why so many people had install issues with this time since the added driver extension needed to be confirmed to the startup. Straight version updates do not seem to cause this issue.

It's a good sign for those who spent $3K on Titan V and and $9K on Quadro GV100. Also a good sign for possible future Turing support. About 6-9 months after initial release is around the typical timing as well. Even better that High Sierra can support these cards now that it's getting close to the end of latest OS support. Hopefully NVIDIA Mojave Web Drivers are released shortly after the official 10.14 public release. That's what most of us are most anxious about right now.

^^^^With this web driver release so close to the issuance of the final release of Mojave, I have no doubt in my mind that Nvidia will be dropping their Mojave web driver within 24 hours of the final release of Mojave.

Anyone know if the 387.10.10.15.15.108 driver has been pulled? No longer showing in the updater, but is available via direct download. 387.10.10.10.40.105 is showing as the latest version when searching NVIDIA's website.

Looks like they pulled that. And it make sense. That 108 driver really causing lots of issues for many users. Even MVC hit the METAL error and library validation error on his own setup.
