I don't see it on the US store anymore? All the links are invalid?

ok I just want to be clear.

when you make a call it says voice fees apply for all regular cellular calls. What does this mean? I am charged per minute? or am I just charged my minutes? So does it use my minutes or charge me per minute anybody know?

I have exactly the same problem [with a dot in gmail addresses]. Glad to know it's not just me.
This thread is getting long, but if you are having this trouble with gmail, you need to remember that the dot in the username is not important in gmail. You can omit it and your message will still be delivered as it should be. I posted this on page three, but another user also did a bit earlier.

I can't find it on the uk app store on the iphone... anyone else having that problem?

I emailed them about two problems. The first is bluetooth support, which I don't even know if they can fix. The second problem is the most important. Number formatting in Skype. I have numbers that look like (555) 555-5555, 555-555-5555, and 5555555555. However, unless your number is EXACTLY like this, +15555555555, it won't work. So, I emailed them with that and hopefully they will adjust it to disregard everything besides numbers and add a +1 to everything that doesn't have it. This is exactly what the actual Skype program does.

However, other than those two problems, I think it is great for using my Skype account to call VOIP over WiFi.

I'm confused.... This app allows free audio calls? Because it's from Skype, and Skype is all about the free audio calls. If so, what's the point of paying all that money for a contract? Also why'd they allow this app but not a podcast app?

But it looks like nice app! :D If only I had an iPhone or a Touch...

Post 19 on the first page...
Its VoIP,only works on WiFi. Per God err Steve Jobs this is allowed.

If you dial a number in fring and tap the Cellular button, it passes the number to the Phone app to complete the call so it's just like making a normal call on the iPhone. That's probably what they're talking about.

If you tap SIP or Skype Out instead, the call is routed as VoIP through your WiFi connection. Your cellular provider (AT&T) isn't involved at all. Your VoIP provider may charge you minutes, though. I'm using it to connect to my Asterisk box at home, so there's no charge.

I haven't tried it yet, but if you call another fring user directly, the call is supposed to be free.

Anyone having a problem logging into their Skype? I have the Skype monthly subscription, and when i put in my username and password into find add-on for skype, it stucks at the "subscribing for skype" window every time???

You can call MSN or Skype user for free, even if they are not signed up with Fring. Fring is only needed if you are trying to make calls with iPhone.

If im understanding this correctly in order to make wifi calls i have to buy skype mins? why not just wait for Icall which is free wifi calls. Im sure they may charge for the app but better in the long run if the calls are free.

twitter outward messages, and a chat option - anyone got the chat to work? Is it even a working feature?
The twitter bit does though.

Can't see it?

If you just search for it on itunes, you might not see it yet - brose the social networking section, on itunes, or on your iphone in the app store, and you should see it as soon as it gets to your country's store.

Yahoo Messenger through Fring works great in the background with Backgrounder (jailbroken only)! It even chimes and vibrates when you get a message. It doesn't, however, seem to update the number next to the Fring icon. It stays at 0.

I love this!!!! Thanks so much to the developers!

Benefit of Fring:
  • Can call directly using iPhone to another person with iPhone running Fring
  • Call MSN or Skype users that are using their computer
  • Call using Skype account, which allows you to have your own Skype number and at a discount rate for international calls
  • Receive phone calls using Skype with your own custom Skype number
  • Basic chat functions with most chat platforms, such as AIM, Yahoo and ICQ

Apparently this is not true. Calls are indeed FREE and include landlines and mobiles. Sorry for the mix up.

And just so I understand from reading the website, you can only use VoIP to call other fring users; you can't call landlines/mobile numbers without some sort of VoIP minutes provider (a la Skype). Is that right?

EDIT: Looked around, and answered my own question.

(It's yes, btw.)

which doesnt mean anything as fring is only on iphone and all iphone users can call each other for free on same network (though im assuming like all att. i wonder if you could call from att iphone to like rogers for free)

Using Skype over 3G would be trying to use your wireless provider's network
without them getting paid for the call ... no cell phone provider is going to allow that.
And don't forget that if they own the network, it's their network, and as long as they don't violate
your privacy rights, they can control the content on their network all they want to.

Well they didn't kick so much of a fuss with Fring for Symbian (most high-end Nokia phones). With that Skype over 3G worked fine on every network I tried it on.

The problem here is not the cell providers, it's Apple being afraid that the cell providers will make a problem out of it towards Apple. So Apple disallowed this as part of the SDK terms/conditions, even though some (european, for example) networks might not mind this.

Anyway if this takes off I'm sure someone will write a patch to disable this restriction on jailbroken phones. Just like the iPhone backgrounder, that disables another one of Apple's artificial restrictions for SDK apps.

ok i dont understand this and a few people have asked already.
when i try to make a call in this program it goes out of it and makes it in the normal call screen but not in the program... i do not have a skype account i thought it would call from the program and log it in just like the free call you have to do first. do i have to get skype to make free calls over wi fi? but i have to pay for that service every month?
