ok i dont understand this and a few people have asked already.
when i try to make a call in this program it goes out of it and makes it in the normal call screen but not in the program... i do not have a skype account i thought it would call from the program and log it in just like the free call you have to do first. do i have to get skype to make free calls over wi fi? but i have to pay for that service every month?
If you don't know Skype, you probably don't have a need for it.

This program is targeting those that make international phone calls and those who travel internationally. For everyone else who doesn't do any of the above, this program is redundant.

why would it be pointless to use if i make most of my calls from home and when im out its passed 9pm. i could drop my minutes down if i could use this and save money.

You do know that Skype cost money to call non-Skype users?

Hence I said, if you don't know Skype, you probably don't need this program.

The purpose of this is for international phone calls and roaming. There are some other business related purposes, but for those that don't travel or make international calls, you can skip this app.

With this App, you have installed MSN messenger and skype on your iphone, that is it, all functions and rates are same.

You do know it's only 3 dollars a month to make unlimited calls to anyone in the U.S. and Canda using Skype. I guess you could just pay 130 dollars for unlimited minutes with the Iphone. Since most mac users like paying too much for their computers they probably have no problem throwing cash at ATT either. :) (I apologize in advance if I offended anyone)

Not necessarily, you can cut down your minutes and pick up an unlimited country subscription on skype for $1.95 a month and save alot of money per month.

I know about the unlimited 3 dollar option, but then again I don't have stable wifi connection. This application will be quite useful when someone release a JB hack of showing fake wifi and use this app on 3G.

I'm kicking myself for not going with the Iphone now. I just bought a blackberry because where I live ATT is questionable anyway. I use skype everyday and hate being tied to my computer. Was hoping this would come out so that I could roam the house and use my phone. Hopefully someone comes up with a good way to use this with 1g touch since I do have one of those. I will say that skype is not always perfect over wifi but it does work and I can't complain about the price. It's cheaper then the cable company and vonage plans. When I applied at the local Cable company they told me in the interview that skype and vonage were parasite/vampire programs(don't remember exact phrase). They think they own the interwebs and they would totally block these services if they could get away with it.

fring is finally appearing in the AppStore on the iPhone under the "Social Networking" Category (I am in the U.S.). It's at the top of the list! I still cannot find it with the Search feature in the AppStore on the iPhone. Download now!

Kept Fring on using Backgrounder, and the battery went down around 20% in the last 3-4 hours. To be fair, I have been playing with Fring quite a lot as well.

Password storage

Anyone know whether Fring keeps your passwords locally, or do they get saved on their server, and everything proxies through there? I'm waiting for a good IM client that DOESN'T store my passwords on someone else's machine. I don't even care about background notifications, I just want sane password storage.

To answer my own question, yes, they do store your password: http://www.fring.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5685&password

Argh.

Well for one if you make a lot of international calls then VOIP saves a lot of $$$!

With AT&T you can get also the international calling package. I call Europe for 2-6 cent a minute, depending the country. Cell phones are 25 cents. The package cost only 5.99

But indeed, it's a great solution to skpye for free (not sure what the equivalent rates from skype are to the countries)
