I hope the S6 DNA results in a slimmed down Note 5.

While I love the screen size and versatility, it is unwieldy in day to day handling.

To the extent that I am thinking about dumping it. After a few months of use, I've determined that phablets may not be right for my lifestyle.

I couldn't see a thinner Note 4 making it easier to handle. I do want a thinner one, but mainly for aesthetics. My Note 4 is very easy to handle, especially with the plastic back, although I'd prefer a glass back like the S6. Sounds like phablets in general are not your thing, they are definitely an acquired taste. I could never go back to a regular phone, although at times I do miss having something small.

Of course if you got an S6 you wouldn't necessarily have to give up your Note 4 however ;)

You can join the half a dozen devices to charge at night club
It's tempting but might just save my money for the next S tab tablet. .as my note 8.0 is very outdated now

Must say, I am quite happy with the Note 4's size, I even have a Muvit slim case on it and I can still use it comfortably one handed, I'm just 5ft10 and 82kg (181lbs), so I'm not a big guy, average size hands to.

I like how substantial the Note 4 feels in hand, together with the huge display it is a pleasure to use, IMO.

I like the Note 4 a lot. There isn't a more feature rich phone on the planet, but the size is fatiguing, and I too "miss having something small", or at the very least "smaller".

An S6 or S6 Edge might be in my future to remedy this matter.

The S6/S6 edge is certainly a very compelling option. If it had a stylus I wouldn't think twice about switching. I hear you on size, a slightly smaller stylus enabled phone would sell like crazy I bet.

You seem to be confused, that is 16hours with the phone actually being used for over 8hours, the screen was on for a total of over 8hours, take note I do use my phone for music with headphones and via BT in my car, that is not even counted by the Screen On Time.

Lol, 4hours of usage and already at 66%? Wtf? Your phone doesn't have a QHD Display, multiwindow multitasking, or a bunch of widgets constantly updating throughout the day, and you said you don't use it for music, it should be atleast at around +75%.

Lol. Here. Heavy use today. And still plenty left. Display looks just as good as my note 4 was without the saturated colors. It multitasks fine where it needs too.

Note 4 would benefit from being thinner in terms of thinness (z-axis). If you handle both Note 4 and Note Edge at same time, you'll find the Edge is easier to manipulate in one hand despite being marginally wider (ie the x-axis). Reason is that the sloped edge makes the phone just that little bit thinner right where the bump of your palm below the thumb wraps around it.

So yes the Galaxy Note devices would be easier if thinner. But Samsung can probably achieve most of that benefit by just having two sloped edges on all Note devices.

So I'd expect to see Note 5 standardise on a single model with dual edge. It's a concept that's right for phablets.

I have bought a white N910C with Exynos Chipset for 450€

I've heard that the performance should be better with this in comparison to the Snapdragon Version, there should be no lags at all.

It will arrive next week and i will compare it to my 6 Plus.

Has anybody here experiences with the Exynos Version?

Cpu performance benchmarks slightly higher, gpu slightly less than snapdragon variant. Performance overall will be but the same. The odd lags (which are very rare such as when pressing multitask) are touchwiz at fault not the hardware - the software on exynos version is the same and therefore has same inherent flaws.

Best hope would be if Samsung rolled out the enhancements in 5.0.2 lollipop it baked into S6 touchwiz into the new full release lollipop version on Note 4. The fact they have halted rollout of Lollipop on Note 4 would suggest they are planning on fixing some things .... we can live in hope.

Lollipop on the Chinese model which you have bought has the festival theme in engine. (that's the main difference you'll see currently).

You say heavy, but all I see is a whole lot of fluffy stuff, not a single sign of Safari or Chrome, and then you have FB, and other apps that mostly do not require the screen to turn on when they update but get counted as usage, I know this due to my iPad, I used it for 40mins of Nav, and 4G hotspot for a client (long story) for an hour, it counted around 4hours usage despite the screen only being on for a max of 2hours.

This is the problem comparing Android and iOS battery usage stats as the two systems count differently, in Android its strict, the SOT is strictly screen being on, in iOS Usage can be updating a feed while the screen is off, a phone call despite the screen turning off. We discussed all this many pages ago late last year in fact.

I've had my Note 4 hit 10hours SOT with 21% battery left with around 12hours off charge,I can post that screenshot if you want, I had been watching the 1st season of 'The 100' that day with a bit of web browsing. Your 6Plus in that case would probably show over 10hours Usage as it will count background processes to while watching videos.

Background app opening test

9 apps open and backgrounded on the Note 4 & iPhone 6+

Gallery, Youtube, Calendar, Dialer, Tapatalk, Google now/search, eMail, Google play books and finally Google play newsstand.

Note 4 = 3gb. IPhone 6+ = 1gb
Note 4 running 5.0.1 Lollipop. IPhone 6+ running 8.2
Both connected to same wifi network.

See which device has to refresh it's app content more than the other.

I'm not seeing that at all on my Note 4: (please excuse the horrendous video, was shot on a tablet, and my daughter in the background).

I kinda like the Samsung keyboard. Love that the number keys are on the top row and you don't have to flip the keyboard. The theme is nice and dark and subdued. I cringe when I know something's been updated to the Material design.

p
I like the samsung keyboard too but sometimes the autocorrect really bugs me. Like I'll write 'that' but it'll correct it to 'thag' which as far as I know isn't even a word!

I'm factory resetting and setting up fresh.

What apps if any have you disabled Spinedoc77 ?

I've actually not disabled anything, running completely from the factory. I had issues before, lag, gps issues, the entire phone freezing, I went through like 6 replacements. I decided to stop rooting, modifying, etc. I'm not saying that was the issue, I just decided to be safe and go vanilla. So far no issues with my last replacement, runs smooth and only has occasional lag. I know others complain about touchwiz, but so far on my last phone it's been very smooth.

Yeah I'm wondering if maybe something I previously disabled caused my issue too. Trying to rule out anything. I guess if I leave everything on and take it from there.

OK. .... quick test after my apps have reinstalled and so far so good. I'm not going to disable anything for now as it's working.

I really hope the Note 4 lollipop update is not being held back for the sake of the S6 launch on AT&T. Seems like it's taking forever.

Was reading about a memory leak in Lollipop that has existed in all versions so far and will be fixed in 5.1. Google has no release date yet. Maybe this is your problem and why those of us on kitKat don't have the problem shown in your video.

I'm going to go back to KitKat ... Even after a fresh factory restore last night I can see it starting less than 24 hours later. It's frustrating because otherwise I think lollipop is a great improvement especially aesthetically in regards to stock apps.

Just hope Samsung roll out a stable 5.0.2 sooner rather than later.

Attempting downgrade now....
Ok so flashed stock 4.4.4 via Odin, wiped my cache partition and did a factory restore after. So I'm back to stock 4.4.4 , Knox and everything still perfect... So now installing my apps and updates again. Hopefully this will end my issues with memory until 5.0.2 or 5.1 finally arrive for it.

What was your RAM usage with 0 apps running? (5.0)
And what is it now ? (4.4)

My exynos Note 4 (N910C) always has 2GB/2.1GB of 2.8GB in use. I'm running 5.0.1
