Galaxy Note 4

What was your RAM usage with 0 apps running? (5.0)

And what is it now ? (4.4)

My exynos Note 4 (N910C) has always 2GB/2.1GB of 2.8GB in use. I'm running 5.0.1

Yeah on lollipop it seemed to be always around 2-2.2 gb with everything cleared for me too.

Kitkat 1.4-1.5gb

Big difference.

Damn that explains it. You killed me. I really enjoy lollipop but that difference is no joke
Yeah it's a big difference. Hopefully this solves my constant app refreshes now but it certainly can't be any worse.

Actually I can already see a noticeable improvement.

Awesome, now you can enjoy the device. I'm bummed to hear about Lollipop though, seems every day I find a reason not to upgrade.

Yeah it's now performing like yourself and Jamezr's notes ... so yep lollipop is not ready for the prime time and clearly why Samsung pulled it.

I'm running on Dalvik with Kitkat; can't see any reason to bother switching to Art.

And what about your battery life? My stats with LP are pretty bad. (Only 15min of gps/maps and 1 hour on LTE, rest WiFi)

9 apps open and backgrounded on the Note 4 & iPhone 6+

Gallery, Youtube, Calendar, Dialer, Tapatalk, Google now/search, eMail, Google play books and finally Google play newsstand.

Note 4 = 3gb. IPhone 6+ = 1gb

Note 4 running 5.0.1 Lollipop. IPhone 6+ running 8.2

Both connected to same wifi network.

See which device has to refresh it's app content more than the other.

Yep, same as my note 4 experience but worse. iPhone works perfect.

Stock or custom rom? How did you manage to get such life? My phone isn't so good.

Completely stock official 4.4.4 German DBT rom. No rooting. On 5.0.1 I wasn't getting as good battery or performance but on 4.4.4 excellent battery and improved performance both task and memory wise.

Have you tried wiping the system cache partition on recovery - that can help I have read.

I'll try, but what would I lose, just loggins? Backup necessary? You use autobrightness? What about other settings options? I just did a full factory reset about a week ago though.

Galaxy Note 4

Wiping cache partition only you don't lose anything at all....

I have auto brightness and then the slider up-to full +10

NFC is off
Wifi is on
Bluetooth is on
Location is set to power save mode, Google location reporting is set to on, location history off.

Mobile is set to auto / 4g but as I don't get 4g here it defaults to 3G. Thinking I may just turn 4g off altogether as it's pointless having the phone search for a 4g signal and as we don't have any 4g coverage I could be wasting resources & power there.

My .mac email addresses are set to 15mins refresh
My gmail is push

Twitter & Facebook are logged in but chosen not to sync contacts & galleries with them

And that's about it... Nothing special at all.

I had to use power saving mode and ultra power saving mode, wifi on when necessary, no Bluetooth GPS or NFC on, auto brightness toggled, Facebook and Messenger disabled. I need to make Gmail push maybe.

Yeah you really shouldn't have to do that much to eek out battery life & screen on time.

Looking at your screen shot, you have horrible signal. If your phone is constantly hunting for a signal, you can bet that'll translate to horrible battery drain. I know this first hand. I get very spotty service at work, so my battery life on workdays is a lot worse. I get about 4hrs screen on time. On the weekends is about 6hrs screen on time.

How would I improve it? Use airplane mode + wifi on campus if I get bad reception at my university? Use my T-Mobile Cell Spot at home?

Yeah you do know where your asking that buddy ;) besides why not? Get one and if you find you don't like it they'll be in demand and price won't fall too much and if you find you do and you don't need or want your note 4 as much you can sell that later. Either way if you can afford the initial pinch and are not cutting your own throat financially in doing so, go for it... #YOLO ;). Unless your a Buddhist in which case #YOLOBHAGCACB (but have a good chance at coming back)

Ha I've got a game plan

Would still use my note 4 as a tablet type replacement on the go. That way got 2 days worth of usage available when on the road

My girlfriend contract ends in 6 months so when the note 5 is out she can have the note 4 or edge after that. .everybody is a winner ha

Lol, sorted...

That sounds like our household. Two of us in the house and one contract is due in April for upgrade and the other October.

I get a new phone in April and then in October the new iPhone or Note and they get my then old iPhone 6+

Sorted ;)
