It's alright.... didn't blow me away. Kind of everything that was expected is there, and I was right about 4gb memory being nonsense.

I'd still likely go for a Alpha simply for the size / ergonomics, but with 720p and only 2gb ram - knowing how memory starved for multitasking the S5 is I'm not convinced.

I would actually like a Galaxy Alpha but with perhaps 1080p and 3GB ram, so Samsung has actually put in me a place where despite all their plethora of products - doesn't offer me one that I would rush out and buy... (given I bought the S4 / Note 3 / S5 all on their launch)..

The Note Curve - seems like another niche device released because they can - rather than a real need for it.

So yeah ... Nice but underwhelmed - and a can't seem to see any new radically cool features of the S-Pen either.

----------

It would be nice if for example they made an Alpha sized note 4. That would be compelling to me.

Have to agree with you MRU....not much to get excited about. The N4 will be a great phone. It is still just a little too large for me. Would love to see the Alpha with a S-Pen! Samsung really has done the stylus extremely well with the Note line.
the Note Curve looks cool but the novelty will wear off soon. But at the same time someone has to experiment with something new. I think curved or foldable phone is the next leap in mobile technology. So maybe curved screens is a step in the right direction.....but far from where it needs to go.

Right - all these lines yet you still can't get a phone that offers what you want.

IMO, the Note series is Samsung's best. They should streamline the Galaxy S line to offer a few sizes with mid-range specs at cheaper prices.

The Note line should be their flagship. Offer the phablet and a smaller one (even with the s-pen) - best specs and released together.

If Samsung were more focused, they could really dominate. But as of now, it seems like they are on their way down.

Exactly ..... I think a 4.7" - 5" note 4 with 1080p screen and similar specs to big note 4, with s-pen support would indeed sell like hot cakes. Certainly more so than the Note Edge will ever likely sell. Focus samsung, focus.....

Yeah I suppose so, just harder to justify, as least for me. I wonder if any of the new s pen features will make their way to the note 3?

Yeah I get that, but i suppose when you get to this level improving these phones that much is hard

Metal look
faster
Better screen
Better camera features
Added S Pen features

Are good to me.

just like the iphone 6 will be a good upgrade if it improves in these areas.

Give me Note 4 specs
5 inch screen
waterproof (I live in Florida, surrounded by water activities :))
GooglePlay edition or Cyanogen 1+1 type OS
metal body design as upgraded on the Note 4
A black 1+1 type of back on the phone
sd card slot
removable battery

Is that too much to ask? I'm ready to throw my money at you Samsung or whoever can do this combo!

I don't have a problem with the ram in the S5. I've just always been more partial to the note line.

It irks me - mostly when I'm running two devices side by side and the amount of refreshing/reloading just after a few apps open - bugs me. It's my own fault for having so many bleeding phones around lol. :)

I thought the software update improved things. It did not come through yet for me so I have not been able to try the performace.

The problem with having a smaller size Note around 5" or lower will cannabalize Galaxy S series phones. Why buy a S if you can buy a Note?

so what exactly is this 2.5D screen? is it like the curved edge of screen on the Note2 where you can't install an edge-to-edge screen protector?

Actually no, not all devices will have the 805 soc, in fact I believe these are the FIRST devices to have it so your wrong to make that claim.
And nope, you're also wrong that I said this phone would have a 4k resolution.

Who cares about what you believe? There are versions from a lot of phones with a 805. The S5 LTE-A, for example. The G3 Prime, too.

Someone did say it. I think it was you.

Holy crap, you guys seem to have found a niche/market Samsung hasn't filled yet---didn't think that was possible.;) (just to be clear, very much kidding before the Samsung faithful start flaming away)

-----------------

Nothing here excited me but to be honest, no matter what changes were made to the hardware, I wouldn't have been excited unless they introduced huge changes to TouchWiz.

As far that my first impressions--seems like an incremental step forward, but that's not a criticism as the Note only needs to build on it's prior success. Samsung seems to have found the sweet spot in size for this device, the last gen already had damn small bezels and was running top shelf hardware so the slight bumps in everything are all that one should have expected. I find QHD on mobile devices a bit ridiculous and an unnecessary resource drain but if it's going to be used, make more sense on the larger screen of the Note.

As far as design, the new metal frame looks great but I think the rear panel took a step backwards. I really don't like the pretty big hump created by the camera, however I'd deal with it considering the camera module likely necessitates its existence and that module seems stellar--love the inclusion of OIS. I'm not a fan of the faux pattern they used, don't like having the speaker once again on the rear panel and to my eyes, the shape seems more irregular--much more pronounced bump at the headphone port is just ugly. I personally liked the flatter, more uniform back of the Note 3 more, but obviously YMMV.

I also wish Samsung would get rid of the funky weird patterns on the front bezel--much prefer solid white/black but if must use the same color as the rear panel, make the color solid.

The Note Edge holds zero appeal for me--really don't like how the design is asymmetrical but that could also just be my slight OCD with symmetry. ;) Really just seems like typical Samsung--releasing it because they can, not necessarily because they should. But hey, somebody has to do it first and we know Samsung likes to be that somebody. I have no problems with the strategy if it yield advances in tech. But I'm sure the Samsung haters will rip away...

Why should Samsung care as long as you're buying their device? Only makes a difference if that customer would've gone with another manufacturer.

Really? See if you can find my comment where I said that, plus here in the UK the G3 only comes with the 801, a quick google shows it's not out yet, and a quick google shows the G3 prime is only rumoured.

Who care's what I believe? I do when you quote me as saying things I have not. Do I not have the right to correct your inaccurate claims now?

The S5 LTE-A and the G3 LTE-A are already for sale in some countries, like South K.

Prime Phones

And the Note will only be on sale in more than a month. Again, just the same regular components as every other OEM.

Samsung + Sony today both gave fairly impressive showings for their respective products & categories. And Asus introduced a sort of interesting smart watch.

Then Motorola later this week.

Then Apple next week.

Good times!

bummer that they moved the speaker to the back of the phone again instead of keeping it at the bottom...

Tomorrow right?

Though I think I've talked myself out of getting one, I'm still very interested to see the Moto360 in person and am looking forward to its announcement.

So far, I'm really impressed with the Spen, multi windows and camera so far. So much better than the Note 3. My only gripe is the stupid 4 icons on the homescreen. Samsung needs to let us decide how many icons we want on the homescreen when using TW instead of having to root and using a 5x5, 5x6 hacked homescreen.

I think Samsung and Sony missed an opportunity. They should have released their phones today. Or at least in the next week or so. Apple is set to steal their thunder.
