Rumors are it won't be immediately available but it honestly won't matter as the Apple hype machine will be in pull force for the next few months.
I just hope it comes with useful features and not just another iPhone 6 with a bigger screen

And because of this was there any benefit in rushing it into the stores. It wouldn't have sold much in a week, or two anyway. The S line is their main seller. The note is more niche although it sells more than the other android flagships.

If anything Samsung seem to have played it safe with the Note 4 it doesn't have that wow factor the Note 3 did last year.

I can see sales of the Note 4 being steady, but won't have the same i must have one feeling the Note 3 did last year.

If Apple do release the 5.5" phablet along with the 4.7" iPhone then Samsung gonna be in for a bit of a rough ride, as it will be hyped to the max by most of the media & on sale alot earlier.

The new iPhone was always going to be hyped to the max no matter what Samsung did or didn't do.

Samsung is getting too complacent. Guess they will learn after iPhone 6 is released.

You know it could come with a 3.5" screen and 512mb RAM and it will still be seen as the second coming? Although in the tech magazines they do not place it as number one, more like number 6 because of it's current specs so it will be interesting to see what happens with the iPhone 6.

Agreed that rushing it into stores before is was ready would be ill-advised. Nothing they can do if it's not ready for stores, though I'd suggest it's also not much of a mystery when Apple announces their new iPhones so they could've tried to plan accordingly over the past year of development/production.

Yup, but Apple have never offered a true direct competitor to the Note and like Apple or not, you have to be on your 'A' game to be able to keep up with them.

Too complacent in what way?

How can a phone with a curved screen around the edges be considered complacent

..and a new mid-sized device with more premium materials (Alpha), another smart watch (Gear S), the first functional VR headset available to consumers (Gear VR). Like Samsung are not, the one thing they aren't is complacent.

I agree a bit, the vanilla N4 looks almost exactly the same as the N3. It's actually a tiny bit thicker and longer as well which is a clear step backwards. Resolution doesn't mean much IMO, I doubt anyone can truly tell the difference just with an eyeball. I do appreciate the fingerprint sensor and OIS though so I'm not saying there isn't any improvement.

Didn't hold unto the Note 3 very long, just too big to be a daily driver for me. More than likely I will take a look see but that is all for the Note 4.

So you guys would have to agree Apple has been complacent for the last 2 years then, because it's stuck with the same small form factor, RAM, no upgradable storage, same sub HD screen resolution, because I don't think 64 bit SOC crippled with 1GB RAM and a fingerprint scanner are particularly revolutionary.

Yet I have never seen a mobile phone with a curved screen edge.

To be honest I think the iPhone 6 will only be a competitor in terms of screen size. I don't see it having a stylus, multi window capability etc. however I'm sure we will be told how revolutionary it is. ;)

I can just see Jonny Ives telling us what a remarkable feat of engineering it is.:D :D

However making a larger screened device will equate to Apple knocking it out go the park

Although I'm not an Apple fan boy anymore I think many of their improvements are truly functional. I think a prime example is a fingerprint sensor. Another would be the sapphire display if it comes true. A physical mute button. The entire Siri concept. Things like that kind of seem a bit boring, but turn out to be the most important features of a new phone. It seems like Samsung already innovated with the Note 3, multi screen, of course the stylus since the Note 1, etc.

The curved screen, I don't think I'm imaginative enough to really see many uses, although there are some very creative devs out there. But if it serves the same function as my phone screen simply lighting up with a notification then I'm not sure I'm sold. It's too early though to tell if the curved screen is an innovation or just a gimmick, but I'm more than willing to give Samsung the benefit of the doubt.

Interest stopped at the bigger bezels. So disappointed. I love the Note series, but Note 3 was better.

I didn't realize this thread was a about super niche phone that won't be available in major markets

I was addressing your point that Samsung was being complacent and I pointed out how could a phone with a curved display come from a company being complacent.

so regardless of that phone, please detail why you think they're being complacent

Well I still argue the iPhone was not the first to have a fingerprint scanner. I haven't seen a device with that curved edge before, it looks cool.
I don't use the voice control? I prefer to just tap the screen, never used Siri, actually I think Apple ruined that for me with their adverts of a guy running whilst arranging business meetings with Siri.. bbooaaarrriiinnngggggg... haha

I think the idea of the curved screen bit is that it's essentially a totally separate screen that you can customise what it displays.

Business users will like it I would think and that's who it'll be aimed at

But that's all it needs to be competitive with the Note. I see quite a few Notes out in public and a few friends own them but you know what I rarely see being used, if ever? The S-Pen--my friends even admit they never use it, forget it's even there. Quite a lot of people love the Note simply because of the extra screen real estate--they just want a bigger phone.

The fact that you can use multi-window or that it has a stylus makes no difference to what I'd guess is a pretty substantial number of Note users. And until now, if you wanted a phone with a big screen, your choices were basically the Note and a few other minor devices. Samsung is now going to have to share the 'Consumers who just want a big screen' pie with Apple.

Note Edge, Galaxy Round, etc. are not good examples to disprove complacency. They are not flagship devices. They are not examples that will create new market trends. Look at their flagships and you can see incremental upgrades for past several iterations. They have become complacent like Apple.

If you want to waste your time talking about the Note Edge, there is thread about it already.

Don't forget the SD card slot...removable battery. Ability to use the default storage of 32Gb as a hard to drive to drag and drop files. Oh and a file system.......

They look about the same to me, any official confirmation on this?

They have precisely ruined the proportions/ratio that I found to be so beautiful on Note 3.

WHY??? WHYYYYY Samsung?

It was exactly what made Note 3 so special. It was a phablet, but you could forgive because of the bezels and overall fell. It is the difference between clunky and not clunky, even though it is that little a difference. It means so much when you hold a device.
