So far, I'm really impressed with the Spen, multi windows and camera so far. So much better than the Note 3. My only gripe is the stupid 4 icons on the homescreen. Samsung needs to let us decide how many icons we want on the homescreen when using TW instead of having to root and using a 5x5, 5x6 hacked homescreen.

I think Samsung and Sony missed an opportunity. They should have released their phones today. Or at least in the next week or so. Apple is set to steal their thunder.

Very true! I wish other oems would take the route of announcing + releasing phones at or very near the same time.

I like what they've done with the note, but that line of device just isn't for me.

How so? If someone wants an iPhone they'll buy an iphone, if they want a Sony or Samsung they'll buy a Sony or Samsung, and I VERY much doubt Apple will launch a phone with a curved screen edge or a stylus, or with twin front facing stereo speakers and Playstation 4 remote play, we will have to see about the battery life, and the iPhone won't have expandable storage.

They will all have something different to offer, Apple isn't going to steal anyones thunder, especially if they stick to 1GB RAM!

I use and love both IOS and Android........anyone that knows me here on MR knows how many phones i have had over the last few months.

That said.......Samsung and Sony haven't created any kind of buzz around their new releases. the media buzz will be next week when Apple releases the new larger screen iPhones. Then if rumor is correct.....Apple will ride that buzz by having their product available 10 days later while they have momentum surrounding their new iphone. Who is going to remember the N4/Z3 is coming in October when they can get a IP6 sooner?
This forum has a lot of people who have multiple devices and OSes. They/we will get the one we can buy first....... Maybe not to get the one coming later. Rule of business...get to market with your product FIRST!

This exactly. Once we reach the Apple event, nearly all media coverage, including tech media, will revolve around the iPhone. Mainstream media will cover the iPhone, the buzz it creates, the idiots...um, I mean people who will be camping out for a week waiting for it, the ridiculously long lines that you'll see on launch day, etc. Coverage will self propagate and it will overwhelm everything else. When Apple invariably sells out their stock on launch day, it will create additional buzz for the following weeks.

Samsung missed out by not having their devices immediately available, or at least by the end of this week. Guess how much non-tech coverage will be dedicated to the release of any of the Samsung products today after Tuesday?

I'm sure the iPhone will have mega hype but as they should. Took them long enough to bring out a larger screen iPhone.

Just hope for their sake they do more than just update the processor, camera. Hopefully their screen quailty improves to compete.

I just have one very simple question.

Being on ATT, will the Note 4 be able to be Rooted, and even more important, allow Custom Recovery for ROM's ? If not, NO WAY I can get the Note 4.

Nice thing with HTC, they openly and officially allow their One M8 to have the bootloader unlocked directly through HTC's own website. I did just that with my ATT carrier One M8, and converted it to a GPE. Would like to see Samsung allow that too

The note is such a specific product that people who want it will wait for it. If you want an iPhone you will get one and are not going to be swayed by something else. If rumours are true the 5.5 inch isn't going to be ready straight away and that is the competitor if you can call it that.

I really hope so too......the larger screen will attract a lot of new users. But they need to still add new features. Not just a larger screen.

I don't think it really matters what they do. People will eat it up and cry innovation from the rooftops. They can just do what they always do, as little as possible.

Yeah people will still buy it no matter what. Like they did from iPhone 5 to 5s with little improvement

So it better be good and better have some good features.

That is a great point! The 5.5 is not competition for the N4 with a stylus. the N4 adds more functionality. But there will be so many people buying the larger screen IP6 just because of the screen size. If they are on the fence about what new phone to buy.....then having the IP6 available first could bite into other phone sales.

Those aren't the customer's Samsung risks losing though, it's the customer who hasn't decided what they want, or don't actively follow technology that Samsung risks losing because of this release strategy. Once the new iPhone(s) are announced, their coverage will dominate everything.

Samsung risks losing a great many customers by not having it available much sooner, IMO.

They already have the S5 and galaxy alpha in stores already which are there for the carriers to push. I think most people who are undecided will most likely go for the all round, every man's device (S5)/ iPhone 6 than the more specialised note 4.

Oh just wanted to ask what the battery life and performance has been like on your note pro? I'm thinking of getting the tab pro 10.1.

Probably, but Samsung is only hurting themselves by announcing now and releasing later. They're missing an opportunity to sell Note 4s this week to people who might not consider it once there is a shiny new iPhone(s) on the shelf. And let's face it, assuming the 5.5" iPhone is being released, the Note will have more competition this year than it's ever had before.

Samsung missed the boat really by launching in October, come next Tuesday all the Media & Tech site will have all but forgotten the Note 4 as all of the buzz will be around the iPhone 6 & whatever else they announce plus iOS8, and it be on sale within the next 2 weeks.

Samsung should have launched the Note 4 within the next 2 weeks, for it to steal some of the thunder from Apple.

I will wait for the official Android Phablet coming next month. The 5.9" Motorola Nexus X Phablet.

Can't wait to see how Google does a Nexus phablet, running the brand new Android 'L'. Should be close to the same size as the Note 4, as Motorola is rumored to build it super slim bezels, and with no hardware home button, can shrink the bottom down smaller too.

I just can't stand Touchwiz lately, and with Knox on the Note 4, and U.S. Carrier versions not being able to Root the Galaxy line anymore at launch, and ROM's are big question mark if there will be any development allowed on the U.S. Note 4's. **** that, I am going to the Nexus phablet.

Hmm, mixed feelings. It's a nice phone, and I have been waiting for fingerprint access since I sold my 5s. OIS is also nice, I hope it doesn't delay the shutter like anything else that is added to a camera these days does. I'm also immensely thankful that they ditched that AWFUL chrome surround on the N3 for a much more classy aluminum one, although I haven't seen what tone it will be on the black N4.

I'm bummed though that it's such an incremental upgrade. I wish they made it thinner and changed the design, as it is it looks freakin exactly like the N3, how am I supposed to Lord my N4 over everyone else?!~?!.

I'm intrigued by the Edge as well, not sure if it's a gimmick yet though. Since the SDK will be out there we can probably see some cool things with it soon. The Edge is slightly thinner, shorter and wider and that may actually be a good thing, not sure yet. The curved portion is meant to be always on, correct? If I have to press a button to activate it and check notifications then it's a complete and utter waste of a feature.

I also agree that they fubared by releasing it so late, Apple will steal their thunder. Honestly I'm a bit underwhelmed and would choose the iPhone 6 if all the rumors are true EXCEPT I'm completely addicted to the S-pen. That little S-pen is what allows me the freedom to leave my tablet at home and I don't think I'd give it up for anything, so more than likely N4 here I come.

Amazing, on light usage lasted me two weeks once. Heavy usage 3 days at least.

Agreed Samsung dropped the ball on the Note 4 release. They announce the phone today, beginning of September, but said it won't be for sale in stores until October sometime

Where come next Tuesday, Apple will dominate the news media and all tech blogs with the iPhone 6 announcement, and the Note 4 will be forgotten about. Plus the iPhone 6 is said to be on sale and in stores on Friday Sept. 19th, just ten days after the announcement.

Samsung should have combated that, and tried to have the Note 4 out a week before the iPhone 6 is in stores.

Oh well, I am waiting for the Nexus X phablet anyways

Agreed, especially if the 5.5 inch iPhone is out in a few more weeks. People on the fence between the two will be too anxious, especially the iOS/Apple users. It will sell a few million units before the Note 4 is even out.

If anything Samsung seem to have played it safe with the Note 4 it doesn't have that wow factor the Note 3 did last year.

I can see sales of the Note 4 being steady, but won't have the same i must have one feeling the Note 3 did last year.

If Apple do release the 5.5" phablet along with the 4.7" iPhone then Samsung gonna be in for a bit of a rough ride, as it will be hyped to the max by most of the media & on sale alot earlier.
