If the new thin A8 can have a micro SD slot so can the Note 5. I still have faith that it will.

Its the same bottleneck reasoning given for the S6/Edge not having a micro SD card. The A8 doesn't have the faster storage of the Note 5 it S6/Edge. As much as I prefer expandable storage, I'm pretty certain we won't get it. That being said, I'm getting the 64GB. I've got a Note 4 with a 32GB card and it's not even half full. But it's the removable aspect of a micro SD card I liked the most.

The big question is: for those who are upset about the loss of SD cards, will 64gb base storage make up for that? For me personally 32gb is more than enough so I can't really make an educated guess for people who have very different storage needs.

Well, 64gb would be the minimum for me, currently I have 4gb free space on my 32gb with a 64gb sd card that's half way full. I really hope the base model is 64gb, but I'm preparing to have to pay an extra $100 for the additional storage.

The issue I have with non expandable memory is I use my video camera a LOT, and at high resolution it chews through memory space like nothing. It's not reasonable to expect to be able to upload the videos to the cloud when I'm on the go, not only my data allotment but it's also quite slow even over LTE. Honestly I could care less for the faster memory, I can't remember a time when I thought "wow this external memory card is really slow". The slowness and lagginess in TW is not due to the memory, it's due to software/OS optimizations and possibly RAM. As I've stated before the external memory slowing down the new faster internal memory is true, but still no more than a marketing point to me. It's like retina display, or a 64 bit iOS/Android, marketing points meant to sell with numbers but not truly providing any tangible benefits.

I gotta say, I'm still mightily confuses why Samsung fragments its market so much instead of sticking to a single flagship, or 2, one large flagship and one small flagship. I just wonder what the purpose of S6 edge plus and a Note 5 is. Just put out the Note 5 with edges and put all your muscle behind it. Or just add the stylus to the S6 edge plus and put all your muscle behind that.

In the article it states the 6 edge plus is going to be a lot thinner than the Note 5. It doesn't have to make room for the stylus. I think it is a great idea. The 6 Edge was a surprise hit for Samsung. So now they have a larger screen Edge for those of us that want a large screen phone. Then they have the Note 5 for all the Note line fans. Its a win win!

Simples.

The note is defined now by its stylus. (You write a note with a pen). Basically large screen phones are everywhere now, so that 1 main differentiator (it's stylus) is important to Samsung to define the Note not only from its competitors but also itself.

The new 'edge' curved glass devices (as opposed to Note Edge) simply would make it impossible to use a stylus without missing the rounded edges of the device. Not ideal in any way.

The Note 4 Edge dealt with this by simply reducing size of area you can write with the stylus. Seeing both edge and main screen as independent. Whilst this works it definitely isn't ideal. So now Samsung is approaching curved glass not as two separate screens as in Note 4 edge, but as 1 screen just curved on both sides, this solution wouldn't really work.

So simples. Enlarge the S6 so that its same size as the Note 5 and give it the edge to edge screen and you can do away with the stylus. People can't moan about losing the stylus because it's 'not' a Note ;)

Then for the Note 5, expect only 1 version in 3 different storage sizes. No more Note Edge.

It's only 1mm thinner, the Note 5 has a larger battery as well. I still disagree, fragmenting the market like that hurts Samsung instead of concentrating on one model. If they were going to fragment the phablet market like that then they should have differentiated them more, let the Note 5 keep the removable battery for example. On the flip side if the Note 5 doesn't have curved edges I'm going to be very bummed, I'll have to choose between the Note 5 and E6+ with neither of them having the full feature set I want. A single phablet at 7.9mm with the 4100mah battery, stylus/digitizer with curved edges is what they should have done.

Naw the removable battery is gone forever. The dual curved screens are a big hit for them. They could not just make one model of the Note with a curved screen. It would alienate some business customers. So a perfect solution is to release 2 versions. One with a curved screen and no stylus. One Note following previous models features but with the current build like the S6.

Yeah, thinking about it for a moment it makes sense. Every time I look at a S6 edge I can't help feeling it's a waste of screen real estate, and you can still see as much bezel as the regular s6. If the Note 5 has no curved edges, but no bezels either like the A8 I think I would highly prefer that as there is more real estate and you truly lose the bezels. The curved glass is very nice but more from an aesthetic look, not functionally IMO.

I do wish the N5 was thinner, I'd take 6.9mm with a smaller battery in a second. It will still last very long, and there are so many power saving features in addition to quick charge that IMO it's not an issue.

I'm also curious what they mean when they say the N5 stylus will resemble a real pen. I'm happy with the N4 stylus, it's not meant to write a dissertation with, especially on the comparatively small screen of a phablet. I hope they don't go too crazy and make it too big.

Anyway, despite my complaints, I'm 99.9% certain I'll be buying the Note 5 on release. It sounds like it will be a very nice upgrade from the Note 4. Hopefully the GPS works, and my biggest gripe hopefully TW is scaled down and runs well with no lag.

I can't believe it's being announced (rumor) in less than a month!!

you never know they might release something like that eventually! I mean have you ever known Samsung to not release a ton of models! :)

Yeah I just don't hope they have that same soft chamfered edges that the Note 4 had that was so bad with scratching up even with a case on. A very faint and thin like of it like the S6 will be perfect.

Indeed, even babied the chrome edge would show the slightest of scratch ... Yet the Alpha had more of a matte finish - so hopefully they will go with matte finish metal.

I kinda like the black colored edge on my Note 4, but yes, those chamfered edges really scratch up easily. Hopefully those are made a little stronger.

Also hoping for a better spen, the current one is still using the cheap plastic build and hopefully the Note 5 will be better, though it's not a big deal if it's not.

The Galaxy Note 4 probably won’t ever get most of the Galaxy S6′s features

http://www.sammobile.com/2015/07/16...ont-ever-get-most-of-the-galaxy-s6s-features/

Sadly, Samsung is unlikely to provide any of the major S6 features to the Galaxy Note 4, and the reason is a simple one: The Galaxy Note 4 uses an older version of Samsung’s TouchWiz UX, and without putting the UX from the S6 and S6 edge on the phablet in its entirety, the Korean giant probably isn’t going to just take a couple of features and mix them up with the older TouchWiz. With Android 5.1.1, it will probably just end up getting new stuff that is a part of the stock version of 5.1.1, without any of its own features that Samsung has added.

Yet another reason I stopped buy Scamsuck products. I always hated how older Samsung phones never get the Touchwiz update, only the Android version #. Look at the Note 3, yes it's running the newer Android OS than it originally launched with, but looks and style wise the Note 3 still has the very old outdated Gingerbread looking Touchwiz.

Why doesn't Samsung update their phones across the board ? It seems, and is true, that after one year, your left alone, and old news to Samsung. They will only force the newer Android version to you, but it will be half baked and not the new Touchwiz.

For me it's Nexus or GPE phones only on Android.

yeah exactly I baby all my phones to the fullest and had a case since Day 1 and still had scratches as if I never even had a case on it! Just have to wait and see what they do with it.

It looks ok. I HATE HATE the stupid silver chamfered just like on my Note 4, it looks cheesy as hell and will scratch/dent just by looking at it. It also has the expected tacky huge Samsung logo on the front. The back was also not done correctly on the render, it doesn't look like glass at all. It looks kind of thick also, but it's only what like .6mm thinner than the note 4 which I'm also disappointed in.

Overall it doesn't look like too much of a leap from the Note 4 except for having a nice glass back instead of the Note 4's pleather, and of course the bezels looks freaking AWESOME. Man, just get rid of the 70's silver car bumper chrome and the tacky Samsung logo and I'd be all over it. Hell who am I kidding, I'll be first in line to buy this anyhow.
