I'm very interested in the Note 5, but I'm not sure if I would like to pay full price for it (I'm on T-Mobile). So my fiancee has Verizon and she has an upgrade available that I can use. She's happy with her Galaxy S5 :). Have the Verizon Note phones been unlocked & compatible with Tmobile? I'm assuming they are GSM-enabled--just not sure if the right bands are there, particularly with LTE.
If you buy the Verizon phone outright then it will work on T-Mobile and AT&T.

Note 5 looks so outdated if you compare it to the S6 Edge Plus images on the link.

Well, as long as performance doesn't take a hit with that high resolution, I say bring it. Sounds great. If they don't offer an SD card, then I hope it starts at 64gb. Would be very disappointed if it still starts at 32gb. As for removable battery, I don't care.

good points and let's hope 64

I would verify the Verizon version has the bands that TMobile uses. One thing to remember is Verizon is going to be locked to the ground. TMobile will be easier to tinker if you're into it. Why not just finance via TMobile and pay monthly w/ no interest. Is using your GF upgrade cheaper in the end for the both of you compared to just financing through TMobile?

Not to derail the thread, but she is sticking with Verizon no matter what. She loves the connection reliability too much to go to any other carrier. So she is planning to stay with Verizon regardless for the foreseeable future and does not mind renewing her contract for another 2 years. As such, having her upgrade to the Note 5, me paying $300 (or whatever the subsidized price is) on her behalf, and she switching the device code back to her GS5 seems like a pretty attractive strategy. Of course, the question is whether the Note 5 will be carrier unlocked. If not, I think there are some options to unlock them via 3rd party means. (hopefully I'm not getting into shaky grounds with Macrumors' policy about unlocking devices).

Back on topic, part of the reason I want the Note 5 is VR. Using my 720p Moto X with Google Cardboard isn't too compelling at times...haha

No auto eject after all for the Note 5? I am ok with the SPen being flush and just pressing in on it get it to pop out a little.

All the mock renders of the Galaxy Note 5 and its cases had everyone thinking the phabletwould come with a new way of removing the S Pen, that users would be able to just push it in to make it pop out. But the latest report out of the Korean media is refuting that the S Pen on the Note 5 will have an auto-eject mechanism, and will require users to pull it out manually like they have been doing every existing Galaxy Note device.

We aren’t really surprised about this – DDaily’s report also confirms that the Note 5 will have the same design elements as the Galaxy S6, and putting an auto eject mechanism behind all that glass and metal would be a difficult task for Samsung. The report reiterates that the battery will be sealed in because of the glass back; it also mentions that “both sides were bent”, but it’s unclear if it is talking about the Note 5 or the Galaxy S6 edge, which it compares the phablet to (the report is translated using Google, so we’re not really sure.)

^ so it's essentially exactly as I said. s6 specs with no SD card, no removable battery, and with 4gb instead of 3gb.

Samsung needs to start strong arming these carriers and get rid of their bloatware like Apple does

good point, but so does Apple and probably all of the phone makers

Wasn't their an article that there was something like 56 pre-installed apps on some models of the S6

Even excluding possibility that some of that may be carrier stuff, that's still way more apps than come in the iPhones.

Especially after all the hype before release that they wouldn't be putting as many pre-installed apps on the device and yet it still came with 8 more than the Note 4...

The iPhone for sure has less but it has a lot of junk that I couldn't remove if I used an iphone, but yeah it does have much less than Samsung

I do hope they slim down Note 4 software but probably will have more pre-installed than S6 because of the extra S-Pen apps.

Heck even stock devices come with software you might not want too like Google Earth etc...

I wish there was a more robust setup procedure that simply installed vital apps and then gave you option to connect to a server to download others you want presented as a list. That would be more ideal than just allowing users to disable them.

Seems like Note Series has no longer a higher priority than S Series like in the years before at Samsung.
Aside from the 1GB RAM more for S-Pen Features the Specs are the same.
So this year probably the only difference will be bigger screen and S-Pen.

Hmmm, not sure how legit those numbers are, as the Galaxy S6 scored higher in both single and multicore tests. I don't think Samsung will release a Note that isn't more powerful than the S6.

Those are my thoughts too. No way no how will the specs be the same as the S6.

I've been finding myself being drawn into this device more and more. The same thing happened when the S6 came out. Told myself I would wait and see what Apple does with iOS 9 and see if they can keep me. Since I've owned a smartphone it has only been an iPhone. I have never jailbroke not would I do any rooting, I'm just not that tech savvy. i just think some things Samsung has been doing recently is advancing their phones, and os while Apple has just been staying the same. My upgrade is September of 16 so I'll see some more releases of os's and phones and see what speaks to me.

You don't have to be tech savy to root, just be good at reading and following instructions to the "T". With some experience, it will come natural. TBH, Samsung devices are very easy to root and etc....

Disappointing if this is what the Note 5 ends up to be.

Why not? No one has complaints about speed of the S6 & S6 edge. The same processor wouldn't be an issue - it's more than capable.

Likewise releasing an S6 Edge plus with a weaker processor than the Note 5 at a similar or greater price point would be a big mistake, whereas if they are much the same spec It would make pricing more coherent across all the models, especially as price has increased this year.

Likewise the only thing that the S6 & Edge could benefit from would be larger battery, extra 1gb ram and of course S-Pen which the Note 5 all brings to the table.

Add the redesign to the S6 style and bang, job done. They don't need to do anymore, it would be a very tangible change over the Note 4.

I don't think they're market is S6 & S6 Edge owners upgrading, it's more Note users and others looking for a phablet.

The biggest perceived issue that'll end up being a non issue will be the lack of SD-card and removable battery and extra cost for more storage.

Why? Why stick with the same processor in the S line now? They haven't done that in the past. The Note line always has upgraded specs over the S line for Samsung. Why change the history and process now?
According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Note 5 is going to feature a new Exynos 7422 processor that crams a GPU, RAM, and a Shannon LTE modem all into a single system on a chip (SoC). The use of a single solution should, hopefully, improve battery life andperformance beyond what we saw on the Galaxy S6.

Upgraded specs and the same design as the S6 and its a winner. It won't be long and we will find out for sure. When was the last time Samsung released a Note line phone with the S line phone specs?
