Just curious how many people use different non Samsung apps on their Note 5 ?
- Keyboard ? I use Google Keyboard, I found the stock Samsung keyboard too cramped
- Text app ? I tried stock messages but didn't like it, so went back to Textra
- Themes ? I don't like the look of stock TW, so I went with the Material Dark theme
- Browser = Chrome
- Launcher = NOVA
Anyone else use different non Samsung apps ?
On Note 5/S6 Edge Plus - same setup.
Use Samsung Keyboard as I like it especially with Material Dark them applied I find it good.
Text app I've stuck with stock so things like notification numbers work
Themes - Material Dark
Browser - uninstalled chrome as it uses up to twice as much ram as Samsung stock browser
Launcher - again with Samsung's ram management I found that whether you utilise another launcher, the system will allocate memory to TW system launcher - therefore by using another I was just adding more memory overhead - so just stuck with stock TW launcher. Only thing I don't like about it is still the inability to move the app drawer icon to centre of dock.
Thanks MRU
- Stock text app = what do you mean with notification numbers work ? I run Nova launcher and use Textra and the little counter of missed texts goes next to the app icon.
- On the stock messages app, I hate that little description that pops up for 2 seconds when about to type or reply to a Group Message ? It says like " Group messaging will now be converted, blah, blah blah " How can I turn that off, or stop it from popping up each time when replying to a group text ?
- Using the stock TW launcher and not Nova, how do you pull / swipe down the notification shade ? My #1 reason for using Nova is for that feature alone " Swipe down " Expand notifications, meaning I can swipe down anywhere on the screen, and the notification shade drops down. As opposed to stock, I have to reach my hand way up to the very top of the screen to swipe it down, which sucks big time.
- Using stock launcher how do you change the icon pack ?
There's a solution for #7 until Android M comes out. Download an app called FingerSecurity.Just switched back to my Note 5 after using my 6 Plus for a week.
Observations after switching
1) Really missed the back button. It is consistently in one place no matter what app i am in or what I am doing.
2) Love the screen on the N5 so much better.
3) Prefer the widgets i do use to be on my home screen. Just a personal preference.
4) Notification light.........please Apple adopt this!
5) Battery life on my 6 Plus is better. Especially in standby or overnight. The 6 Plus just is better at conserving battery when not in use.
6) The IOS keyboard is the best I have ever used!
7) In IOS some apps are using TouchID for authentication. wish Android would do the same. My banking app (BofA) allows TouchID instead of a password.
8) The 6 Plus is showing its age compared to the Note 5. But it is almost year old. So will compare it to the 6s Plus in a couple of weeks.
Thanks. I will check it out! There's a solution for #7 until Android M comes out. Download an app called FingerSecurity.
White is right, Jack! For the last week I've been on the hunt for an unlocked T-Mobile Note 5 (or Edge+) and finally came across one. However, it's in white :/. I'm not big fan of white but I've never owned a white device before so can't really judge how it looks.
So, I was wondering if anyone has it in white? How does it look in person?
I went for white this time round too. After a few bluey black S6s with fingerprints all over them I decided on white pearl which does a really good job of not showing them.White is right, Jack!
I prefer it over my Blue/(Black) S6 as it's less of a fingerprint magnet and the OS just looks cleaner to me on a white phone. (white pages blend in with the bezels)
Never used a G4. I simply couldn't put up with lg's software overlay ...Oh gord, it's dropped again to £458 on eglobal now... will it be £430 by the Nexus 5 announcement?
Also anyone used a G4 and Note 5 and able to say which has the best autofocus or tap to focus and take a shot?
Never used a G4. I simply couldn't put up with lg's software overlay ...
haha. yeah it is odd. Only reason I am asking as the G4 is most likely the nearest to what the Nexus 5 will be like, focus wise.
I had a G4 and had it replaced under warranty because I thought there was something wrong with it. The only advice I can give you now is that having both the G4 and S6 edge the G4 is ****, the camera is a little faster to focus but all that time and more is lost opening the camera app.
It doesn't take near as good of photos but the battery is better but then the S6/edge is better to hold in hand. The Samsung has the better screen as well.
I had both the S6 edge and the S6 and for me the only thing I preferred on the S6 was the feel of it. As for the G4 it was dam uncomfortable to hold even for a small length of time. That may be down to the way I hold a phone which is with my little finger under the bottom(just under the charging port) but I hold all my phones the same way.
At the end of the day the only thing better with the G4 was the battery.

Sorry I'm slightly confused. Is this what he's going for?Finger Security is a great app, love it. But that's going to just put on a security layer to open the app, he would still be required by BOA to sign in.
