Adblock has been available for Android for years as Adguard, Adaway, etc.
It's not the same though as the ad blockers available on iOS. You either need root or you need to side load and subscribe and set up a vpn that has a constant notification taking up in the tray. And all you data going through the vpn. Would rather pay once for an extension that can be downloaded at anytime on your devices through the App Store.

Yeah...but I think these apps do more than ad blocking on the browser. The impression I got was that they also remove ads from apps. No video ads in youtube is awesome. Adguard has lifetime purchase at 25$ per device. A bit too high for my liking but it is a non-root option so that is a plus.

I just bought adguard for my windows tablet and Note 5, $25 for 2 licenses windows/android. So far I love it on windows, but hate it on my N5 due to having the notification in the tray forever and an icon in the taskbar. Is there any way to disable those?

You can eliminate one notification by going into system>apps>adguard and unchecking 'show notifications'. If you have root you can switch Adguard from using vpn to proxy or with Xposed NotifyClean to eliminate the other otherwise I don't think you can remove system VPN notication without root.

Everytime I see other phablets I just can't get over how nobody does phablets like the original. The Note 5 is just the most minimal and complete package compared to other 5.7 inch displays. If you factor in the smaller 5.5 inch display (yet bigger footprint) of the iPhone 6S+, the difference is even bigger. I love how this pic really shows it's minimal and very clean design language.

Yes, the Note 5 feels tiny for a 5.7" display relative to other phones and it even has a Wacom pen silo. I'm hoping the Note 6 will take advantage of that and squeeze in a 6" display.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Remember this awesome thread?
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/samsung-galaxy-note-5-design-flaw.1910318/

Well turns out there is a better design and Samsung implemented it:
http://phandroid.com/2016/01/18/galaxy-note-5-s-pen-fix/

Nice to hear they have addressed the issue and likely will in future versions. Obviously still don't want to put the pen in backwards if you buy a new one, but if it accidentally happens you might get the revision and have a safeguard.

I was about to post the same story hehe, HHOORRAAAHHHHH they've fixed it!!! I imagine they took a while to fully test a new design and get the plastic composition right for the new lever protector thingy.

Samsung has now fixed the stylus problem on the Note 5.

samsung-galaxy-note-5-pen-warning.jpg
Samsung has now implemented a second fix for the Note 5's pen.

Samsung isn't just relying on warning labels and "read the manual" suggestions to prevent people from inserting the Galaxy Note 5's S Pen the wrong way. A Phandroid reader has discovered that newer Note 5 models have an updated slot design that makes it feasible to eject a backwards stylus without breaking the detection mechanism -- you won't have to panic because of a simple mistake. It's not certain which models have this stealthy upgrade.

Anyone else getting issues with auto switching from wifi to cellular? When leaving my house my N5 seems to hang onto my wifi signal for ages, with means no network. I've had it without a network for a solid 3 or 4 miles from my house. Sucks also for GPS as it takes ages for it to load, sometimes it even fails because of no network.

If you are having issues you can always turn on the Smart Network switch (in menu under wifi).

Curious, what messaging app is everyone using? I've used Textra in the past and I'm using it now but not really feeling the $2+ price tag that comes with it to remove ads.

Using Google Messenger and Wickr. The stock Samsung Messenger was giving me issues when the history started to pile up. GM has been trouble free. I use Wickr for a group I belong to.

How long does that battery on the Note 5 last vs the iPhone 6 or 6 plus?

I'm on AT&T - found if I uninstall / disable all the AT&T I can and all of the Touch Wiz stuff I do not use, I get very good battery life. By end of day I am around 40%-50% left. It isn't far off from my iPhone 6S+. I charge each when I crash for the night.

Thanks!! I didn't know that setting was there, I switched it on, hopefully it helps.

how does adguard work without root?

are they running everything through a proxy on the device?

edit: ah it seems like it uses vpn or proxy

I thought samsung devices had an 'adaway' like adblocker available without root (as in does not use VPN or proxy) through the samsung store or something, similar to that system debloater app

Well after doing this my connection seems better, no more no data in my driveway. But it seems to burn a lot more battery. During the course of a regular day I'm using a good 30% more battery. Not sure if it's due to this, but I haven't changed anything else. Anyone else with this experience?

I used to use it till I fine tuned my home wifi (location and signal strength). I don't remember any significant battery loss from that aspect. I use GSam Pro to monitor my usage detail. If you find out what it is let us know... :)

Have you gone into settings / applications / Facebook Messenger and deleted the Cache / User Data ?

I've never had this issue myself ...

No I haven't , but I will try. It happens randomly, my top left corner of the screen wouldn't work until I close the messenger app or restart the device.
