The battery better be big with the rumored display resolution.

Not sure on my next move, the iPhone 6s Plus rumor is that it will be the same size as the current Plus. That leaves me out of the running for it so the Note 5 is the current one on my list wish.
I really hope they don't go with the 4K display. To me the 2K is plenty good enough.

I am mostly like "bigger is better" regarding smartphone specs, but a 4K display on a smartphone with a display at 6" at maximum is just ridiculous and a waste of resources and battery life...

Could not agree more. It's just overkill.

Unless, of course, Apple make it ? Then it'll be the best phone ever.

Samsung scares me away with their crappy slow updates. Android M is due out in November, but the Note 5 is due out in Sept / Oct shipping with Lollipop, how long until the Note 5 gets M ? And what version, and how will it be borked due to Touchwiz running on top of it ?

Which version of Touchwiz will the Note 5 get after M is released ? Samsung has a horrible record of=, yes updating the Android version on a phone ok, but NEVER updating the Touchwiz version much. Look at the Note 3 compared to the Note 4, or the Galaxy S4 vs S6, all running Lollipop, but the Touchwiz style and design is radically different on the order phones, even though they may be update to running Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.

At least HTC doesn't do that, if they update a phone, they update the old version of Sense to the new one

I have been waiting a Tab Pro update for many months. This is really unacceptable.

What is less secure then, an Android tablet or a Windows tablet, eh?

And my next tablet will not be smaller than 15". Not looking good.

updates are really bad and it's the one thing Apple are great at. Thats the one down point to Samsung to me compared to apple.

Google should stop dithering and take care themselves of the software for all devices, not only for their crippled Nexus stuff, like Microsoft.

I don't care if device vendors don't get Android for free anymore.

And I don't care about customisations either.

If device vendors want to differentiate with software, go back to writing the whole thing.

They better fix the software update inconsistencies. I cannot take Samsung bugs because it takes ages to get fixed. At least I know Apple doesn't need to deal with pesky carriers for updates. Rather have a working product with less features than a non working one with all the features possible. There is a reason why the S6 Edge and S6 didn't sell as good as they should've. I am seeing tons of sales on them now. Must be that Samsung is slightly under expectations despite their strong effort?

It really isn't carriers at fault. They undoubtably contribute to delays for their own version, however they always play the main fallguy in the update fury all too easily - but the reality is its 99 % the fault Samsung.

Look at the S6 5.1..1 update. In this instance T-Mobile a carrier got the update first whereas it's barely begun rolling out to unbranded unlocked devices worldwide with only a couple of CSC unlocked devices reviving it and the rest in limbo with potentially weeks or months before they receive it. That can't be blamed on carriers at all - it's just the way Samsung roll out updates.

Sadly their is no way in hell Samsung is going to change how they deal with these updates in time for the Note 5 release and are unlikely to do so in the near future regardless.

It's either suck it up or just go elsewhere. The Moto X and Nexus M intrigue me. I like the iPhone, but it feels like it is lacking the extra features I miss like predictive dialing or easy ringtone access, etc etc. I just want timely updates mainly.

Problem is other than Nexus it's an issue most OEM on Android share so there really isn't too many places to go elsewhere if you want to stick with Android.

Heck even 5.1.1 rollout on Nexus devices was very incremental so even Google can't seem to do it all at once either.

In 2015 It seems to me to be a case of lesser of evils when it comes to which Android OEM handle updates best.

Everybody is saying September as the release date. That's still cutting it close, but it's still possible Note 5 might include M. Pretty sure Samsung will be testing it out between L and M, long before actual release. If M has any serious bugs, it'll be better to wait.

The Note release is always in September each year, and the new version of Android is most typically released in November each year. Point being the new Note comes out a couple months before the new Android version, and does not get the update early or beforehand, it takes a few months afterward till they get it.

So the Note 5 will release in September with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and then in November Android M will be released for Nexus devices only at first, and then maybe in Jan / Feb, the Note 5 will get updated to Android M.

If the rumors from a ton of tech sites are correct, M is being release in Sept not Nov.
