I would hope it would be a little more curvaceous on the sides than that render. More like the S6 - thats a bit too sharp and boxy

I was about to post that. Looks fairly real to me.
If the rumors from a ton of tech sites are correct, M is being release in Sept not Nov.

I actually heard that it was getting released in August. Then the S7 at the end of the year. Sounds unlikely, but it may well happen.

- Nexus-One release = January 5th 2010 ( First phone with Android 2.1 Eclair )
- Nexus-S release = December 16th 2010 ( First phone running Android 2.3 Gingerbread )
- Galaxy Nexus release = November 17th 2011 ( First phone running ICS 4.0 )
- Nexus 4 release = November 13th 2012 ( Shipped with an updated Jellybean 4.2 )
- Nexus 5 release = October 31st 2013 ( First phone to run Kit Kat 4.4 )
- Nexus 6 release = November 2014 ( First phone running Lollipop 5.0 )

See the pattern here ? All Nexus phones are released around the November time frame. And are usually the first phone to have the latest Android OS. I have never seen a new Android OS released before the new Nexus phone, those two releases are simultaneous; a new Nexus phone + new Android OS.

We will not see the Note 5 launched with Android M in September, no way. The Note 5 will 99% launch with Lollipop 5.1.1, and then come Oct / Nov the new next gen Nexus phone will come out running Android M.

Bit off topic, but apparently there will be two Nexus phones this year.

Nice enough, definitely an improvement from previous designs, though like MRU, I find it a somewhat too sharp and square, and almost a bit cold in design--but of course, just my personal design preferences.

Question though--it's not evidently clear in this image but more so in the other renders at the link--what's going on with the weird trapezoidal shaped section on the front top? Ruins, the sleek front design aesthetic, IMO.

Finally, read that they may include a new S-Pen pop up mechanism (though the render shows the S-Pen still at the bottom of the device ) that uses an electromagnet ejection system to automatically pop out the S-Pen based on a gesture and/or voice command. This sounds like Samsung creating a solution for a problem that doesn't exist. Is tapping the S-Pen with your finger to release it really that laborous? You still need to use your hand to grab the stylus so, it's already in the vicinity. How is a voice command or gesture (requiring you hand somewhere other that the stylus slot ;)) a really time saver? If anything, it seems far more likely to accidentally release the S-Pen and thus maybe losing it or snagging it on something.

Looks promising!
The great looks of the new S6 line and a better battery will be welcomed. TW is still a memory hog, terrible UI IMO but this device checks a lot of boxes for me.

Will be hard to put down the Nexus 6 though and the speed, efficiency of stock Lollipop

Well...it is a render. I do love the over all design and unibody features like the S6.
I have no idea what that weird trapezoidal shaped section on the front top is either.
Personally I don't need a voice ejection mechanism for the S-Pen either. Don't see how useful that would be. But you know how these rumors go.....nothing is for certain until launch day.

For me though stock Android is pretty boring. Kinda featureless. TW has its problems but at least it has a battery meter that shows how much battery you have left. there are things that stock does well. Then there are some that it just makes me scratch my head.

Of course. I just figured someone probably wouldn't throw in the section up top unless some rumored/leaked info seemed to imply its presence--not something that I think one would just include randomly.

And I agree about the more simple unibody design--I just found it a little cold with the very squared off shape and edges. Will certainly be interesting to see the final product.

It depends on the user I guess. The things that Samsung throws into their phones are pretty useless for me and the efficiency of memory and snappiness of a stock Android phone wins 10 times outta 10 for me against my past Samsung phone experiences.

I know they have tuned it down and can't comment on the S6 TW experience as I haven't used a Samsung phone since the Note 3 but hard to go back after what my experiences have been in the past. Maybe the Note 5 will make me take the plunge though and give it another try.

I think it comes down to this: Android M w/ Note 5 = better software support. W/O M, same ole Samsung. One counterargument I can see is that the Note 2 came with JB I think and Samsung didn't support it as well as say... HTC or Moto. Just because the Nexus has the fastest updates doesn't mean that Samsung isn't working on its TW rom at the same time. Remember, their devs can get the dev preview and tweak it since it's open source coding and their resources are larger than 3rd party and private devs.

I actually don't mind the non-removable battery and SD slot if the battery is large enough. Samsung got me badly with their mediocre S6 Edge battery. Only so much you can do to get juice. But their RAM management kills battery life. That's why I sold my S6 Edge. My iPhone has better life. I do miss my Sammy features. I think it will be close if I decide to return to the Note line or just stick with Apple for round 2.

Man, and still Samsung persists in crapping their name/logo all over the front. Lol, I know they are renders and not official pictures, but some of those pics with no logos are SWEET. I'd love that nice monolithic black only look like the iPhones have.

I agree, the pop out stylus is searching for a solution for a problem that doesn't exist. I'm quite happy just popping it out myself. I'm also excited about USB-c, I've suffered long enough with the garbage that is mini USB.

Hmm, leaked pics of cases for Note 5 and S6 edge plus. I see for the Note 5 they will keep the stylus on the bottom. Also looks like the speaker will move to the bottom as rumored, a massive improvement but a phablets deserves to have front facing stereo speakers. No hints yet if there is removable storage.

I'm really confused thought, what is the S6 edge plus? If it's a S6 edge with a larger screen what purpose does it serve besides the Note 5? Why don't they just make a Note 5 edge? My bet is they will make a S6 edge plus as a larger phone without stylus, and also make a Note 5 edge with the stylus. It will be redundant and affect sales, Samsung should really concentrate on less models/variations.

Seems reasonable to me. Non-Edge Note 5 makes more sense with pen since it would be awkward to write on the edge part while S6 Edge Plus benefits from a larger display for those who don't want the pen feature or premium pricing.

As a minimal line up, Samsung could do with just two flag ships non-Edge Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus but choices are good for consumers so it doesn't hurt to have additional options with Note 5 Edge, S6 Edge and S6. Personally, if available I'd go with non-Edge Note 5, Note 5 Edge or S6 Edge Plus in that order since 5.1" is on the smallish side especially for in-car glanceability such as using as GPS navigation.

TW is going to ruin this for me, isn't it?

Any word if Samsung is putting any work into TW?
There are rumors of a toned down more efficient TW for the Note 5. But who knows? We won't know until it is released and we get our hands on it! :)

I hope everything about this leak is real except for one thing, the micro USB port. I'm hoping they go with a USB C port. I wouldn't be surprised if this is an early render and the actual release has a USB C port. This render also would mean no Micro SD Card. Which I'm OK with but would prefer it would still be a feature. Either way, can't wait!

I don't think we will see a SD Card slot on the Note 5. This article is a good explanation why.
I would like to see Samsung increase the storage on the Note line. Keep the same entry level 32GB and add 64 and 128GB at launch day.

GSMArena also tested the Galaxy S6 against a Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 sporting one of the fastest microSD cards available, and still found the S6 to have a strong lead in terms of memory performance. It’s clear to see that a microSD card simply cannot match the performance offered by UFS 2.0 storage, and it’s one reason why anyone expecting to see expandable storage make a return on the Galaxy Note 5 is most likely to be very disappointed.

Update: As one of our readers rightly pointed out, there is another obstacle that would make it hard for Samsung to put UFS 2.0 storage and a microSD slot on a smartphone. SD cards and the eMMC 5.0 solution used on other flagships are able to use the same memory controller (the controller is what handles data transfer and communication with things like the processor), making it easier for them to exist in the same device. UFS 2.0, on the other hand, uses a new type of memory controller, and Samsung will have to find ways to interface the new controller with the one used on SD cards to be able to make them work together, and in turn affect overall performance. It’s possible Samsung will find a solution to this in the future, but for now, it doesn’t look like a smartphone with UFS 2.0 storage will be featuring a microSD slot any time soon

IV been saying this since the gs6 came out and made a thread on why the gs6 ditched the SD card. It's using a new memory controller and a whole different memory bus sub system.

You can jam a sata cable into an ide 40pin slot.when we get ufs SD cards that run on the same controller is when you will see the return of micro SD cards.

My gs6 hits 340mb pee second random read tests.that is miles ahead of the fastest SD cards.

Sounds like maybe SD card slot in note 5 isn't happening

I think we can go back a few months and see that I predicted no removable battery & no micro SD whilst everyone else was convinced otherwise ;)

Samsung's profits are still struggling even after the success of the S6. They need to maximise profit. Why let other manufacturers make money selling SD Cards when they (Samsung) can make potentially an extra $100-200 per device on just bumps to internal storage.

It's just business sense. Forget controller board arguments that some are using to say they 'have to do it this way' or any other justification - the reality is Samsung's aim to secure a success whilst enhancing / maximising its profit margin. Bumps to internal storage do exactly that.

I also expect the base price to increase a little this year too, moreover in Europe than USA much like the S6.

Ha I imagine they will give more storage in the other models by paying more. Hopefully you will see 128GB models available from the get go
