The way it works for Apple with the Sim Removal tool is that they include it for the "Unlocked" iPhone models ONLY.

The carrier models do not come with it because they have a sim included in the Sim tray but the unlocked models DO NOT come with any Sim hence why they include the removal device for the unlocked models.

Okay, I knew I wasn't bugging out.

One thing I read about yesterday that would drive me a little batty is that you cannot manage the phone's photos using Google Photos--specifically, if I decide to delete photos in the Google Photos app, it doesn't delete them from the gallery app. Anyone confirm if this is true?

Really would prefer OEMs follow HTC's path and just use Googles apps as default with the abilitiy to download the OEM version if I choose. Just my preference, of course.

The fingerprint sensor works great for me it's not as fast as the iPhone obviously but it's very reliable. I actually like that I can see my lock screen again so that I can manage notifications right from there instead of getting right past it with the fingerprint sensor on the iPhone

Yup, was a mild pet peeve of mine as well. Thankfully, with iOS 10, they've enable a raise to wake functionality to allows you to see lockscreen notications (and unlock the phone if you choose by resting your finger on the home button--no need to press the button anymore) and manage from there.

Just found another feature .... Secure Startup.

If you enable it .... When the phone restarts, it will not boot into Android until you entered the password. Similar to setting the BIOS or Boot Loader to require a password to boot a desktop OS.

Most likely still able to go into Recovery and Download Mode, wipe the system, and etc. But Secure Startup will still require the password to boot into anything.

Solid feature IMO, but it does take much longer to restart vs not have it enabled.

That's been available for quite a while on devices running marshmallow.

Doesn't seem to be much of an issue on the TMO variant.

Edit: just tested, took 11 secs.. Is that long? Never used Netflix on my phone.
Yes. Takes only round 3 seconds to load, log in, show content on my S7 & HTC 10.

----------

EXTREME THROTTLING

Those with these slowness or laggy issues, have you tried gaming yet ? Quite a few users are now reporting very poor framerates in games regardless of resolution and extreme thermal throttling kicking in after around 15-20 seconds, reducing games to around 10-15 FPS .... seems to be only on SD 820 models so far, but that could simply be because most folks haven't got the Exynos variant available as yet.

Folks who examined the phenomenon are seeing four cores active then after 15 seconds two cores are shutdown and the remaining two throttled to 1.4ghz

I'm wondering if those of you experiencing this lagginess may also be experiencing the affects of an aggressive overzealous throttling kicking in too early (a nasty bug perhaps in the software/firmware).

I think you may be on to something. This is the stuff that makes Sammy so frustrating. So many good ideas with poor execution. This is why iOS folks switch back to iPhones. My iPhone is straight up faster than the Note. And in some instances, it's not even close. Very aggravating.

You sure? This is my first time seeing that. And I don't see it on any of my other devices running M.
It is/was on my S7, S7e, HTC 10, Nexus 6P and Xperia Z5 .... Perhaps carrier firmwares in the USA remove some features ? But definitely all the Androids I've had since the 6P have had this option buried in settings or asked on their initial setup if I want utilise this feature.

Setting is buried often in the unlock method as an optional extra. (Require pin to start)

Here it is on my 10 for example.

Quick update on my Note 7. Remember I reported some lag and slowness? More than I have ever had on Android.Well i did a factory reset through settings on the phone and it bootlooped. Went into recovery to do a factory reset and still the same bootloop.
I have a defective device :-(
I will go to TMO tomorrow to get a replacement. Maybe I will get the blue this time.

That sucks...

Keep us posted on it, it will be interesting to see if it was a lemon device or whether the initial T-Mobile firmware has issues that may require an updated fix.

It was the T-Mobile units some of the users on XDA were reporting the lagging / throttling in gaming too.

Your carriers over there seem to butcher devices much more than even the worst European carrier ones. Whilst we do get bloat apps from carriers on branded devices or custom boot animations; usually all the features are at least present and intact regardless.

I am really disappointed. This is my first Samsung new phone that has failed on me :(
Hopefully the TMO stores have them in stock. I read some reports that all the stores are out of stock with a 3 week wait on the blue Note 7! Such huge demand for this phone.

Exactly, I hate that.

Yeah being the first time isn't much of a consolation, hopefully they can swap it out there and then for you. Keep the fingers crossed anyway.

Anyone have any suggestions fora messaging app that handles group conversations well? Not a huge fan of hangouts, and the default messaging app for some reason doesnt show me a preview of what the last message sent or received said when im looking at my texts which is irritating.

This was a huge gripe when I tried android in the past... like why cant they just make a ****ing messaging app as easy as Apples ?

If you can get them to use BB messenger, it's a great alternative.

Good luck! Hopefully T-mobile can help you out.
