Looks like I dodged a bullet here cancelling my pre-order for it. Certainly will not consider it now as there seems to be an utter failure by Samsung in quality control over their third party manufacturers.

Really? Oh dear. As soon as it hits the news channels that's when people take notice. It's going to be hard for Samsung to recover from this Straight away. It's clearly going to effect some sales for people who for one are undecided.

Yeah its the recovery that will be the interesting part. They spent a fortune advertising the N7 on TV / Sky in last few weeks with a September 2nd release, for it now to sit in limbo / hiatus now for a month. How do you reignite a spent firework ???

Very true. How long the sales are suspended for will be interesting. As Samsung aren't always great at getting a phone out on time generally.

Have Samsung advised people to return their devices for testing or will it be you have no choice but to return it and wait for a replacement?

They'll probably get the carriers to do this, notify their customers that purchased the devices through them. I'm sure Samsung stores will notify customers themselves too/

Not sure how they will handle private sales / eBay and such online sales and such though.

Verge simply report "Details of how the recall program will work in each market are to follow later."
[doublepost=1472813725][/doublepost]Official statement

"Statement on Galaxy Note 7

Samsung is committed to producing the highest quality products and we take every incident report from our valued customers very seriously. In response to recently reported cases of the new Galaxy Note 7, we conducted a thorough investigation and found a battery cell issue.

To date (as of September 1) there have been 35 cases that have been reported globally and we are currently conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market. However, because our customers' safety is an absolute priority at Samsung, we have stopped sales of the Galaxy Note 7.

For customers who already have Galaxy Note 7 devices, we will voluntarily replace their current device with a new one over the coming weeks.

We acknowledge the inconvenience this may cause in the market but this is to ensure that Samsung continues to deliver the highest quality products to our customers. We are working closely with our partners to ensure the replacement experience is as convenient and efficient as possible."

A Silver cloud ..... So on the bright side, you can take off the screen protector and use the device 'nekid' for a couple of weeks and push it knowing they'll be replacing it :) :)

[doublepost=1472814081][/doublepost]Samsung, BBC report.

"There was a tiny problem in the manufacturing process, so it was very difficult to figure out,'' the president of Samsung's mobile business Koh Dong-jin told reporters.

"It will cost us so much it makes my heart ache. Nevertheless, the reason we made this decision is because what is most important is customer safety," he said.

The firm said it would take about two weeks to prepare replacement devices."

That sounds to me like they are essentially having to re-manufacture devices to replace the current ones. Hence they will likely prioritise USA and territories where it has actually launched already and devices are out, and then after that deal with Europe, hence the 'October' time frame Vodafone Ireland gave me earlier.

A fatal delay in Europe that will cost them heavy in Sales. By the time this goes on re-sale both the iPhone 7 & Google Pixel phones will be on sale.

I don't know, that god also slapped them with a €13 billion tax bill .... I think god is just generally taking the pee out of all of them at this stage :D
Gotta be a nerve racking week at Apple. A few days ago Tim must have been slicing necks left and right with a katana, today it's probably cake for everyone. I'm kinda looking forward to seeing what the vibe will be like on Wednesday...

Hopefully it will come down to one battery supplier and they will be able to tell by the serial numbers which one has that manufacturers battery. Well will see...what a mess!
Samsung is at least one of the battery suppliers: Sister company Samsung SDI Co Ltd.

"For the phones sold in Korea and some overseas markets, ITM Semiconductor, a Korean firm, produces the battery pack. Most of the phones to be sold in China are equipped with those produced by China’s Amperex Technology." Korean Herald

Well on the bright side we will all be getting new phones. You can say what you want, but Samsung acted about as quick as a corporation could over a faulty product.

Well for me personally I am looking forward to the IP 7 plus as I was all along. But maybe with a little more interest now. I get the new iphone every year but this year adds a little more interest.

Exactly.....they seem to want to do the right thing and just recall ALL of the Note 7s and sort it out on their end.

I'm really torn with what to do here, as it would seem like Vodafone have messed up my corporate discount anyway.
Got my confirmation today and they're only giving me 15% instead of 30% which I should have.

Part of me is thinking about just cancelling and starting a fresh but doing it through the UK cancellation department who I originally spoke to. When I called to do it last time it was the outside UK centre who processed it and clearly they just made error after error.

I wasn't charged for my £20 upfront cost (it appears to have gone on my bill) and they haven't refunded the previous £20 they took for the new line.
The said they'd cancelled the new connection 4 times but hadn't as both phones turned up.
They didn't take the £160 upgrade fee over the phone which the UK centre told me they had to do as anything over £150 cannot be added to a bill.
And now the phone is potentially dangerous.

Just a clusterf*ck of errors everywhere.

I think I'm going to cancel it all and then see what happens with the new iPhone (though I don't really want to move back to iOS for my main device as I know I'll get bored). At least then by the time that swings around for order, there might be some news on the Note 7.

Really gutted to be honest. But in view of the above it may be a blessing in disguise to get it all sorted the way it should be.
Will just be a nightmare getting through to Vodafone to try and sort all this out.

So those who have you're note 7 will you be returning them and get a replacement?
I plan on getting a replacement myself. It just makes sense to me. If they tell me they are recalling all Note 7s then I will gladly get a replacement. If they tell me based on my serial number mine is not affected i will just keep it.

Can they tell just by a serial number though? Least it isn't an issue for yourself as you have other phones to choose from but those with no other phone they would have to buy a cheap one.

Or really the carrier should offer you if you wish to change phones

I think they can tell by the serial number the build date and determine the parts it was built with. At least I am assuming so anyway. But maybe they can't and that is why they are just going to recall ALL of them? Not sure.

I hope they can let us just swap them out at a carrier store that would be the idea solution. But it might come down to getting them mailed out and take a little longer. That would really suck for people that only have one phone.

One will keep their current note 7 until it's replacement is given to you.

At no point will you be phoneless.

People are being asked to return theirs. So I highly doubt you would just get a replacement without returning your current device.
