Never really monitored battery life and screen on time before as I'd use my iPhone 6+ in low power mode 24/7. So far on my note I'm down to 70% with 2hrs screen on time. Is that good? Would I really be able to get about 6 1/2 hours screen on with it at that rate?

I was getting about four hours of screen on time after two weeks with the note. Don't think that's very good. I also didn't manage any of my settings in a way that would yield better battery life I just basically kept everything on how I wanted to so not sure if that had anything to do with it

I picked up a Note 7 from swappa and AT&T won't help me since I didn't buy from them so I have to go through Samsung. Incidentally my S7 Edge is being serviced right now so I won't do anything with my Note until I get my s7 edge back.

:( What happened to your S7 Edge? Yeah there are going to be a lot of people who get caught out by buying from Swappa and the like. Hopefully Samsung will deal directly with you without issue. Keep us posted as info will help others :)

Samsung said they couldn't do anything for me I bought off swappa to so I filed a claim
What did samsung do for you?
Thx

You know I had some thought about trying another phone like the iPhone 7 Plus when it comes out, but unless Apple radically changes the design I'm just getting a replacement Note 7.

This has to be the nicest and most beautifully designed phablet ever. The iPhone Plus is too big with a lot of wasted space. The more I use my Note the more I realize that Samsung really designed some amazing hardware. I'll be fine until I get a new one. I'm not worried.

I'm torn between the iPhone 7 and Note 7.

Note 7 pros: waterproofing, iris scanner, SD card, LED case, THE display, camera,64GB
Note 7 cons: very few service center, scratch easily, my carrier (Rogers) rarely push updates so I will only get the major releases for the next two years and no security patches.

IP7+ pros: minimal waterproofing, customer service, a few years of guaranteed updates, dual cameras should be great.
IP7+ cons: screen, large bezels.

I survived two years without iMessage, not really an issue so far. If the battery recall slows down the sales, it could lower the price of the device (currently 550$ with 2 years plan, and yes I need to stay with Rogers). The price of the iP7+ will have a big impact on the decision.
I'm not convinced the Note7 display is better than the 6S Plus display in an absolute sense.

Yeah the iPhone 6 display is poop with the low ppi. But when my husband and I held our Note 7 displays up to either of our 6S Plus displays the 6S Plus display was more pure white and brighter at comparable settings and despite having lower resolution still held up well in comparison.

I'm on the road so I can't offer comparison pics. I really haven't tried to watch movies on any of the devices so I can't compare that aspect of their displays.

But for plain reading they are all good but different. OLED does blacks better but iPhone 6SPlus displays do a nice crisp white.

The vast majority can actually do some math. Samsung isn't selling a lot of high end phones, but dozens and dozens of cases like this on the firs few weeks, before another expansion means that we could easily have hundreds and hundreds of issues like these, that are dangerous, in the next few years of Note7 usage.

Heck, it could be exponencial., or maybe all damaged batteries already exploded. But one has to have an agenda to not realize the danger. Why the hell would anyone think that the vast majority of batteries aren't affected, in some way? Maybe the issues would never trigger a reaction.

All we know is that the same supplier was responsible for all batteries. All we know is that in the first weeks, where Samsung only sold 2 million phones (US, UK, SK, etc.), dozens and dozens of dangerous situations already took place.

One has to be a massive apologist to say "kudos Samsung" for being forced to deal with this in the first place. At least, all of their control and quality testing department is insanely incompetent.

So, not only does the note7 lag and is the slowest of any current flagship, it can also make you warm in your trip. Enjoy it. Money well spent.

Well I'm saying Kudos, the time frame and action on Samsungs part is worthy of praise, name another instance, ever, of a safety recall being initiated globally as quick as this.
Especially when the problem could be like you said, exponential...
Sure, the battery was messed up somewhere in the process, Samsung say it was a third party, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
Now they're not dragging the chain and trying to get the 3rd party to do something about it, no they just went ahead and did a global recall, unprecedented as the press like to say.
They could have waited weeks, and that still would have been seen as a quick reaction.

Anyway, I've finished apologising on behalf of Samsung.
I'm about to drop my "probably nothing wrong with it", lag free Note 7 off and collect another phone free of charge.
I can't wait to get my brand new replacement back but at least it won't be three generations old before the issue is sorted.

Praise be Samsung, please ship me another SD card...

Just wanted to share an update of my experience with the Note 7 as I've had it for a few days now.

This information will highlight the UI experience more so than anything else.

I am finally getting to see the "stuttering/lag/frame drop".. that many are talking about.

To be more detailed.. I was out running some chores earlier, was playing music with the Apple Music app with an aux cable, had google maps running a route to my next destination and was attempting to text someone using the Textra app.

What I noticed was when trying to switch between the apps, the phone doesn't seem to be able to process it as smoothly as it should. I do see a bit of stuttering/lag at times if I'm looking to switch between multiple apps very quickly.
Just to be clear, my personal experience with my 6S Plus when switching between multiples apps constantly (which happens a lot), always seems to be extremely smooth. This is what I expected from the Note 7 to be able to handle but it doesn't seem to.

Another thing I noticed was scrolling within apps such as Yelp or even Google Maps. In Yelp, when I scroll through the places, there seems to be a slight stutter or frame drops happening. In Google Maps, when I select a location and the map is about to zoom out to show me the route OR even start the route, it just stutters doing those functions.

Now I am by no means saying that the phone is slow or anything like that. Just that the phone does not seems to process functions as smoothly as the iPhone. That to me does ruin a bit of the experience I would like to get from a high end smartphone.

You could very well say that the Note 7 has more multi-tasking capabilities to which I will agree. BUT for me, I love the fact that my iPhone does my multi-tasking so seamlessly. Yes, I might have to switch between apps and not have split screen or multi-screen capabilities as the Note 7 does but I value the experience I get in those moments.
After using the Note 7, it really amazes me how the iPhone just handles all the tasks I throw at it with such ease.

Besides the UI issues, the phone is absolutely amazing in all other ways. The screen is gorgeous and the ergonomics of the phone is just perfect. I am just big on UI so I wanted to provide the review on that end!

You also have to take into account how much faster the iPhone is (even the 6s), the superior ecosystem and so on.
But also the decisive factor is if you prefer Android or iOS.

I got used to adaway and some xposed tweaks, so for now that's where I'm at, since I can make a cheaper device do what I need, my way. However my next device will be a flagship, and it will be an iPhone, obviously. I also prefer storage space, and the iPhone's superior storage solution with higher capacities for apps and so on, without having to rely on slower SD cards, sounds like another great feature.

I would never pay flagship prices for the slowest of flagships, with less OEM support, less Dev support, less updates, and explosive batteries, anyway. If you prefer Android, you have to resist the superb AMOLED screen (something better is coming, anyway). There are way better Android offerings.

Yay, my phone is fastest at opening and closing apps over and over again and bezels from 8 years ago....

Yay....

I generally agree and posted images when the S7 edge came out.

You will fin a lot of over exaggeration goes on in forums, the 6S Plus does have one of the best IPS Lcd screens, even if it's dpi is 401 it has the benefit of being an LCD and not the pentile or diamond matrix array of Amoled which whilst higher resolution and therefore ppi - the actual affective ppi because of that array isn't so much more.

Some folks do prefer the exaggerated over saturated colours of the adaptive display mode on Samsung devices, however when you compare it's SRGB accurate Basic mode with the iPhone 6S Plus the two are very close.

Where do you and mrskullfreak live? What do you say to the ATT rep when bringing your phone in? I've never had an issue having ATT replace a phone I got somewhere else. The last time was about a month ago when my Note 5 stylus stopped working. I went to a corporate store, no one asked me where I got the phone from. It was still in the 1 year manufacturer warranty. They went though some troubleshooting and reset the phone, took about 20 minutes, then apologized they had none in stock and had one overnighted to my business with a return box in it for my old one. I even had ATT take and exchange a Tmobile Note 5 at one point. Worst case scenario just tell them you bought it from a non corp ATT store, I highly doubt they can tell where you got it from. Their main concern is that you are a paying customer and will remain so, otherwise the faulty phone just becomes Samsungs problem and it's not like ATT eats the cost of it.

Anybody deal with best buy yet? Went to at&t but they told me I had to go through best buy. What kind of options do they have? It's it basically just a refund or exchange waving the restocking fees?

I was in Best Buy today and noticed they had pulled the demo units. Kinda crazy! I wanted to play with one but was let down.

Target Trip Report to Return Note 7

Cliff Notes: Terrible experience and will never be purchasing another phone from Target regardless of the promotion.

What I purchased: Opened two brand new lines with AT&T with two Galaxy Note 7s. Received a $100 Target gift card for purchasing each phone and a $200 gift card for trading in an old Motorola Droid Mini I had lying around.

Went into the store with two Target mobile employees there. Both had "heard something" about the Note 7s but neither was aware of the full scale recall. My biggest issue was that we had already spent all of the gift cards at Target so had nothing to give back. We were immediately told that we would have to "return" the two $100 gift cards before they would process the return (the $200 trade in gift card was never mentioned nor brought up by them during the entire process) . I calmly explained to them that I wasn't "returning" the phone persay but rather that this was a recall and I was instructed by AT&T to return the device to the store I purchased the devices at. Given that I was not interested in any other Galaxy device and my wife and I were currently using our iPhone 6S+ devices, I explained to them that I just wanted to "give back" the phone per the recall instructions. After about 30 minutes of them speaking to various managers they finally gave in and decided to waive the return of the gift cards. Think the fun is over? Oh no not yet..

The first return seemingly went fine, the Target mobile rep call the ROC (their corporate help center or something like that) and explained that I just wanted to return the device but leave the new line open. Rep on other end said fine and just like that the call was over. Then he had to make a separate call for my wife's line return. The rep on the other end was insistent that if I returned the device that she would cancel the line with AT&T. I was furious as my wife is home with our 5 month old daughter and I told the store rep that under no circumstances was she to cancel my AT&T line. The rep (who actually was extremely helpful at this point and on my side) continued to fight for me explaining to the rep that we just returned a different device on the same family plan and the line did not have to be cancelled. At this point I was steaming so while he was talking to the rep on the phone I reached over and pressed the hang up button on the Target phone. Probably a bad move but at this point I just don't give a shi*t as I could not chance them cancelling my wifes line. I told the Target rep to just return the phone and if my line gets cancelled then so be it. We walked up to the customer service register and they processed the two returns and I received my tax back on the gift card I used to pay for the tax with (which happened to be one of the gift cards I got with the phone LOL).

After this was complete I walked back to the Mobile center at Target and made a call to AT&T confirming that the returns had been processed and that my lines were still active (obviously one was since I was using my phone). The AT&T rep did confirm that both devices showed a $0 balance and that all lines on my family plan were active. I thanked the Target mobile guys and went on my way.

Then I get home, check my AT&T account and low and behold both of my lines that I had the Notes on STILL SHOWED the full amount due on the phones as well as showing an upgrade date of 22 August 2018, two years after I purchased the phone. Furious, I called AT&T and spoke to a gentleman who basically told me that one of two things probably are happening. First, Target effed up the return process and never "told" AT&T that the phones have been returned and that I would need to go back and get it sorted out. Or second, the Target system just hasn't updated the AT&T system yet and that I should wait 24 hours and check my account again. Both scenarios seemed viable so I will be checking my account tomorrow and if it still shows a balance will have to go back to Target again to get this sorted out. Not too worried as I have the receipts showing the phones were returned, it's just a matter of the Target idiots on the phone doing it correctly, again the store reps were extremely helpful and I don't blame them for not knowing the Samsung issue, I blame Target for giving their employees ZERO information.

So bottom line is this, right now AT&T is showing I owe $879.99 x 2 on my accounts and I have nothing except two receipts from Target showing the returns. I'm sure it'll get sorted out but what a mess. I will NEVER EVER purchase a phone from Target mobile, the reps in both stores (I bought and returned at different stores) were all making comments about how Target mobile basically sucked, they don't blame me for not wanting to purchase there anymore, etc. etc. The only guy who was helping me basically told me that he didn't even care about his job and thats why he was sticking up for me on the phone, he was basically sick of the bullsh*t with them. Terrible terrible experience and one that I hope gets sorted out quickly.

Now I understand that hanging up on the 2nd target rep might have posed an issue for the 2nd lines return but this is happening not only on that line but also my 1st line that was seemingly successfully returned in Target's system. Additionally, my brother was there right before me and had two returns as well, one return was on an old line and one was for a new line he opened up which he ended up cancelling when returning the phone. On his At&T account, the cancelled line is removed so he doesn't see any type of installment balance owed but his existing line is showing the same thing as mine, $879.99 balance and his line was also seemingly successfully returned.

So we'll see what happens tomorrow but I don't have a lot of faith that it's going to get resolved without a trip or phone to Target at this point. Just extremely frustrated.

The only saving grace fro me is that after this is all said and done I will have received $400 in target gift cards, $75 in Samsung prepaid cards for Samsung pay, 2 256GB SD cards, and a Gear Fit. I originally bought a Verizon phone which I ended up returning but not before I took advantage of all the promotions. Some might think it's immoral to do that but why? Samsung allowed it, they were gifts for purchasing the device and I had no intent of returning the Verizon phone when I first bought it. So what was I to do just send the items back? Either way, at least I'm receiving some type of compensation for my time. Will update when I get resolution. Fair warning to all future Target Mobile buyers..

Also, WTF AT&T, how can they tell me that they see a $0 installment balance when clearly I see two balances for $880. When I called back the 2nd time the AT&T rep confirmed he saw the same balances. So sick of incompetent people honestly will be complaining if I get a survey and don't care if the rep gets fired or dinged it's time to hold people responsible when the F up. Maybe I'm missing something so if anybody is in the know please chime in..

Anyone know how Costco will handle an installment plan? I have 90 days to return the phone, but it's after my 14 days to commit to Verizon. So if I return the phone to Costco will they refund my money and I stay with my Verizon installment plan?

They should hit see my post above I know it's long but basically make sure that the return is fully processed before leaving the store it's a pain for third parties to do the returns. Hopefully your experience at Costco will be much different from mine at target

I didn't post about it but my husband was fuming at losing over an hour of his vacation time undoing a snafu on the part of our AT&T salesperson who set up our two new lines and the mess made person on the phone who was supposed to convert our grandfathered unlimited data plan to a new plan that actually saves us $150 a month (I know most people hang onto grandfathered unlimited data plans but our use case scenario made it the more expensive option). At any rate the information we saw online contradicted everything that was supposed to have been done to fix our accounts. The snafu was keeping our phones from being properly provisioned.

However the next day the account information that we were able to access online did show the correct information. I don't know if they chisel imforation on stone tablets or what but for some reason their system is glacially slow by modern standards. It reminds me of the computer system I worked with as a bank teller...TWENTY-FIVE years ago!

Thank you for that information. Hopefully that's the case here and the systems will update. My wife is giving me the evil eye all night and asked me if I've learned my lesson yet lol. I constantly switch phones carriers etc so I think she's secretly happy this is happening!

Well we have tried all the carriers ourselves over the years and settled with AT&T when we got our first iPhones. Prior to that I briefly had a T-Mobile Dash and a Verizon Treo.

But it's hard to compare them based on what I used to know because they're basically moving targets now thanks to T-Mobile shaking up the industry. I swear it's almost like Verizon and AT&T stop and wait to see what T-Mobile is going to do before they make big decisions. And Sprint seems off in its own little world much of the time. It's been decades since I was with them. It was T-Mobile out of the starting gate with an action plan. AT&T took freaking forever to make an announcement of what they were going to do.

I do like the service I get in the AT&T corporate stores. It's a few notches below Apple Store level (as Apple is now...they've gone a bit bureaucratic) where I live. They're very courteous and want to help. But some of the reps are more informed than others. What keeps us with them is their strong coverage presence in the areas in which we live and travel.

My dad is a former Verizon employee from back when they were Bell Atlantic/C&P and even as far back as before the antitrust decision split them off from AT&T. I refuse to go with them on general principle because they are always trying to screw my dad out of benefits and they hijacked his Android phone with their bloatware, removing the functionality of a free app he had to force him to pay for their own service. He got an iPhone to put a stop to that, even though he did prefer Android when he had it.

I've yet to see AT&T be that heavy handed. Unfortunately I am stuck with Verizon for home internet because they're almost a monopoly where I live unless we go with satellite from AT&T.

Oh I forgot we have been battling Verizon to repair our landline service for over 11 years now! Good grief! Occasionally it will work and we get swamped with telemarketing calls so we gave up getting them to fix it permanently.
