That's valid viewpoint if someone never actually used it and just go by reviews. If you really use it, it gets more complicated.

I keep thinking the camera was lagging, for example, but then when I tested against my 6S Plus, going through same procedure of starting camera straight out of my pocket to capture the same scenes, any lag I thought I had on the Note 7 was present with the iPhone 6S Plus, as well.

Usability depends on what you want and need. The iPhone can not do some things the Note 7 can do, period. It does not have integrated stylus/pen support. No ability to write on screen just like taking pencil and pad of paper out to quickly jot something down. No integration with cases to create always on interactive displays on the protective cover of your case. There is no lockable secured folder--one simple folder where you can partition your most sensitive information and even apps from prying eyes. Every Christmas I have wished for a folder like this so my gift lists don't end up accidentally getting peeked at when I let someone look through my phone for something.

There are Edge functions I find useful but others may find gimmicky.

Then there is just the fun of it. I have an animated wallpaper that eerily accurately mimicked the scenes of the beach I was staying at for vacation. I'm home now and we all miss the beach and all I have to do is look at he wallpaper to almost feel like I'm still there.

Samsung pay is da bomb...lol...in a good way...not in a bad battery way.;)

There are motion photos that can be easily and instantly shared to my friends and family even if they are on a different platform. I love iPhone's Live Photo for having a bit of audio, too. But the motion is choppy and the Live Photo can't easily be shared intact across platforms. So much of what Apple does is so closed off and walled off. I didn't realize how much so, until I tried the Note7.

There is so much I love about Apple but I am starting to feel like I was in a snobby exclusive club finally getting to know people outside of the club for the first time. I can go to their tailgate parties and cookouts and be welcome but I can't reciprocate and invite them to a social at the club.

At any rate I loved my Note7. So much so that I'm thinking of getting a Galaxy S7 when I trade my 6Splus in. The warranty on my 6S Plus is set to expire and I've decided not to keep an out of warranty phone around even as a spare. I'm waiting to see the keynote for the iPhone 7. But honestly everyone keeps saying vote with your wallet and Apple is leading us into the future by removing the headphone jack. So I'm not too keen to buy a phone that is removing a convenient feature my entire family uses regularly. Talk about having less usability!
Agreed. If Apple was trying to do this for the good of the customer and the industry, they would move to USB C. That is a standard that is superior to the lightning cable in all ways, and would make for a ubiquitous solution across the industry. Even more Apple should move to USB C, and announce that they will remove the headphone jack in the near future, giving consumers and manufacturers to time to adapt. Instead they're abruptly doing it and they're sticking with the lightning cable, which will lead to nothing but inconvenience for the consumer because the industry is not going to move to the lightning cable as a whole, meaning that even if the industry moves to USB see the consumer will still be stuck using an adapter for Apple products. It's nothing but a move for profit when viewed from that point of view.

I generally agree and posted images when the S7 edge came out.

You will fin a lot of over exaggeration goes on in forums, the 6S Plus does have one of the best IPS Lcd screens, even if it's dpi is 401 it has the benefit of being an LCD and not the pentile or diamond matrix array of Amoled which whilst higher resolution and therefore ppi - the actual affective ppi because of that array isn't so much more.

Some folks do prefer the exaggerated over saturated colours of the adaptive display mode on Samsung devices, however when you compare it's SRGB accurate Basic mode with the iPhone 6S Plus the two are very close.

Nice post! I agree with a lot of your points and going back to my 6S+ has opened my eyes even more to some of the lag issues I was having on the Note. You are right in that some of the same happens on the iPhone especially with the camera however I'm finding iOS to be buttery smooth compared to the Note. I used the Note for just over 14 days and half of those days I had second thoughts about it because of the lag and just overall clunkiness of the phone. Samsung pay is definitely da bomb in the sense that it's just so much more useful than Apple Pay due to working everywhere and supporting gift cards and membership cards. However multiple times I had issues paying with Samsung pay for various reasons sometimes it was the reader and sometimes Samsung pay just froze up or I would enter my pin and it would keep asking for a Pin. Have never had those issues with iPhone st all.

It does suck to be inside of Apples garden but that blow is greatly reduced if most of your network is on apples system.

Completely agree with the functionality of the Note. I absolutely loved the features and find the iPhone boring on comparison. I am a tech nerd at heart but at the end of the day I need a solid and consistent experience with my four cornerstones of communication which are talk text photo share and internet. And to me the iPhone handles these basics much better than the Note or any other Android device.

So for now I'll be bored with my stable and smooth iPhone and wait for the inevitable itch to try and make the switch again.

My husband is still comparing the IPhone 6S Plus to his Note 7 to see which will be his daily driver and which will be his backup. He's also going to pay attention to the keynote and see if he wants to trade the 6S Plus for "Bender". I asked him for his impressions of the two phones and he made an interesting comparison.

"The iPhone is like my mom's house. There's not that much in it but everything is neat and orderly and laid out where you can find it fast. It's comfortable and convenient. The Note 7 is like my best friend's house. He's got all the cool stuff, the latest and great video game systems and the coolest gadgets, but there is also all sorts of junk and odds and ends everywhere. Everything is there that you need and then some, but you lose some time picking through the mess to find it."

He really loves his Note 7 though. He was gutted when he dropped and cracked it and is thrilled that the recall means he can get a new one without penalty. I think he's going to make it his daily driver. But knowing him as I do, I suspect he will go back to IPhone in a few months.

I am still using my SE as my daily driver, lol...no way you're prying that phone out of my hands. So I also understand your point of view. I feel extremely blessed and fortunate to be able to have both phones. I could not afford even one of those cheap pay as you go drugstore phones until I was 32 (my first cell phone was given to me by my employer) so I don't take the position I'm in now for granted.

the iphone7 isn't even out yet. so the answer is NO. you can't change it to something that doesn't exist yet.

Thank you Captain Obvious. That's why I was wondering if the Sept 30 deadline would apply as I'm not sure when the ip7 preorders will ship. BTW the ip7 does exist somewhere on a manufacturing line or in a warehouse somewhere. Oh and the answer is actually YES, stopped in my local store today and they said I would just have to wait until they had stock.

When are we getting a Captain Obvious emoji ?!?!?!?!??!

The one thing I never understood about the hardcore iPhone fans is the fact they dream of a world where the iPhone is the only phone and Apple doesn't have a strong competitor like Samsung. Now if we look how slow Apple can be about moving ahead on design or features what exactly do you think the iPhone would be like today if Android had never been developed?

I like Apple products and have had an iMac in my house for years. I have also owned an iPad since the first one. My iPad Air 2 is an excellent tablet and I use it a lot around the house. I have friends that ask if I have the Apple stuff why not have an iPhone? Well how would the iPhone give me any different features or functionality then what I already have in my iPad?

I guess one reason I've had an Android phone since the first Droid by Motorola came out on Verizon in 2009 is that as a Verizon customer we couldn't even get an iPhone for years. I sort of got going on Android and know it inside and out. It's a really cool mobile OS and is so flexible compared to iOS. Both are excellent mobile operating systems and that's pretty much the reason for the duopoly of this market.

Samsung at one time was accused of copying Apple, but lately they really are doing their own thing and designing beautiful hardware. So modern, futuristic and compact compared to the same old slab we've gotten from Apple for a long time.

Anyhow all of back and forth fighting is silly. We should be happy for the competition and be glad we have several good choices in the mobile market. I also wish LG, HTC and Motorola the best because more companies coming up with new designs and features push us forward. No... An Apple only smartphone world would not be better.

It's bad. At least Samsung is doing the best job of making it right.
This is every manufactures nightmare.

But... Samsung is doing a terrific job of responding quickly and efficiently. Many people here love to find any reason to bash Samsung, but facts are the company is devoted to resolving this as soon as possible.

Samsung has built a loyal customer base and it's showing, loads of Note 7 owners are expressing their happiness and satisfaction with Samsung. They are smart enough to know that this will only strengthen the companies commitment to customers. Happy Note 7 users will get replacement phones and continue to enjoy this excellent smartphone.

I certainly will... :D

Just to update if anyone else got theirs at Costco, I stopped into the store today and got the scoop. They advised to get a replacement from Samsung, supposedly you get a S7 or S7 edge as a loaner and they evaluate your Note 7. If Samsung clears your battery they send it back to you, if not you get a replacement. Alternatively I can wait until they get stock of the fixed phone and exchange it. He also said I could swap it out for an iPhone 7 no questions asked once they had stock of them, I would just pay the difference and would simply keep my Verizion EIP. Of course you can never tell what's mindless blathering and what's fact when dealing with retail employees, but it does make sense. I'm really leaning towards just getting an ip7+ as I've dealt with QC issues on the Note series for years and am really bummed about all the issues I'm having with both of my Note 7's.

One thing that I think is a fatal mistake is if Samsung makes these exchanges difficult. If they deny replacements or give customers issues they might get a backlash. This exploding battery is big news and on the front pages of tech sections everywhere and on every tech blog, Samsung really needs to step up to the plate and take care of customers.

Samsung already has a massive deficit in customer service and warranty service when compared to Apple and I would think they don't want that to decline further. Your phone explodes? Just call Samsung, talk to someone with a thick accent you barely understand and take up 1-2 hours of your time with wait times, hold times, research times, getting handed off to a manager, disconnected calls, etc. Send the phone in, wait 2-3 weeks for them to possibly say you have no issues. Cross your fingers that you truly have no issues and move on. Doesn't seem like it will win them any points with consumers.

Lol, wow! Seems we've got quite a Samsung hater lurking around. Claiming opinions as facts.

Just one?

In fairness to the hardcore Samsung fans they likely dream too of a world where there was no iPhone. It does go both ways and can't be generalised or positioned/targeted at only one camp of folks.

I imagine the Costco goes wrong on the Samsung procedure. According to Samsung, carrots, and people who work for Samsung on read it, the story is the Samsung swap it out regardless of the condition even if you have a cracked screen. You just have to wait for the new stock. I don't see how Apple could do it any easier

well all i care about is how a company takes care of me. and in my book they are miles ahead of apple. all i remember was when i had my iphone 5. and the battery would go from like 40% to zero and my phone turning off in a matter of mins. so i went to my apple store like 3 times and all 3 times they said there was nothing wrong with the phone and it was probably some bad app or something they even did a total phone reset and that never fixed the problem. ask for a replacement or even a refburb. but no dice so the phone is pretty much useless at that point and i was not comfortable with selling a phone that i knew was not working well. so i put in it's box and left it in my closet and got my a galaxy phone. about 8 months later i get an email saying "
Apple has determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 5 devices may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently. The affected iPhone 5 devices were sold between September 2012 and January 2013 and fall within a limited serial number range.

If your iPhone 5 is experiencing these symptoms and meets the eligibility requirements noted below, Apple will replace your iPhone 5 battery, free of charge.

Eligibility
If your iPhone is in working order and exhibits the symptoms noted above, use the serial number checker below to see if it is eligible for this program."

so i took my iphone 5 to the same apple store i never go to anymore for my 1 final visit to get my iphone finally replaced with a new battery. and that fixed the problem. so i sold that crap iphone5 and never looked back been a samsung customer ever since. so don't preach to me how good apple customer care is, because in my book samsung is king look today samsung has openly admitted the phone has a battery issues is issuing full refunds or replacememnts with brand new ones. apple on the other hand waits for it's users to file a class action law suit. lol go figure. that's my story and my rant for the day.

The facts? At first it was 2 reports only. Then it was reported only in Korea. Then it became 7 reports. Now it's 35 reports. Now it's outside Korea.

All this in less than a month after release.

2 million shipped. It's a trending fact that they'd have more cases of these phones were left out there. Samsung isn't doing a global recall out of the goodness of their hearts. It's a business. They must protect themselves from litigation and scrutiny especially in a case like this of exploding batteries. They're relatively smart to look ahead and stop it now but it doesn't raise a moral compass.

And I didn't mention Apple in that post. Apple has nothing to do with this. If I'm throwing mud at Samsung, I think it's deserved. If I buy a iPhone 7 and in weeks the battery explodes I'll say the same thing.

It's funny cuz I've owned more Samsung products than most in here, probably you included.
Dude really? Quote the facts...35 out of 2.5 million is .0014%. Samsung got out in front of this before anyone was hurt. Who knows maybe more would have surfaced...maybe people would have been hurt. But you know what? Samsung's quick action eliminated all that. They put their customers first and just recalled the Note 7 at a tremendous PR and $$$ hot to them.
As others have pointed out and provided links. There have been lots of other manufacturers phones exploding and causing injuries to people. Where is your condemnation about that? You don't seem to mind it when there are a plethora of evidence that iPhones explode and cause injuries...but man Samsung has an issue and takes the high road and boom here come the doom and gloom folks.....
Stick to the facts and don't portray your opinion as factual.

We haven't gotten ours, yet. It's been almost two weeks. About how long does it take to get them?
I got mine Friday so it took just a couple of weeks. Did you get the email with tracking info yet?

well as one Samsung fan...I would hate a world with no iPhone. I use my iphone daily and switch between Android and iPhones for years. Looking forward to the announcement of the iPhone 7 plus this week and pre-ordering.

So i got back from my carrier, asked about their plan for replacement. Bottom line, when the replacements come in, we'll get a text to say come into a dealer to get the replacement. Easy enough. The rep said i was the first person to even ask about this. Nobody seems to even care at this moment. Totally reminds me of the Takata airbag recall, people took their sweet ass time to go into their dealer. As much as some want this to damage Samsung, i don't think it'll have too much of an effect on their trustworthiness. In fact, I think people will trust them more as a company because of their extremely quick statement about this issue. And the overwhelmingly positive reaction online to their decision to quickly send out a statement and a resolution.

My concern is that already people are popping up saying that Samsung isn't exchanging their devices because their serial number wasn't in an affected lot. Samsung customer service has a bad rap and I'm curious to see how they actually handle it.

Yeah I've had my fair share of bad experiences with Apple customer service and warranty issues. My point was that Samsung needs to step up to the plate and replace every phone, or they better be 100% sure that the ones they won't replace have no defects. I also hope that what the Costco guy told me isn't true, that you first have to send your phone in for inspection. This should (and probabaly is) be a no questions asked replacement, preferably made convenient by being handled by someone local where you can physically hand in your old phone and get your new phone. I'm already sensing inconvenience because I have to contact Samsung and do a phone exchange over mail. Samsung is already setup for this in the US with their Samsung kiosks inside Best Buy, there is no excuse why they couldn't replace them there, especially with Best Buy able to store I inventory. Thankfully Costco has a 90 day return period, but others may not be so lucky.

I'm surprised that Apple hasn't implemented this yet. They would make a killing on interactive flip cases for the iPhone.
well seeing as apple is usually late to the new tech game by about 2-4 years. i would imagine they would be anoucing
some magical case within the next 2-4 years and the apple minions will eat that stuff up lol..

Totally agree...there are some here that want to throw mud at Samsung. But they did the right thing and did it very quickly.
