It's because they have a great marketing team that they're going to 86 the Note brand. They know that every mention of the Note 8 next year will be accompanied by reference to the Note 7. And the jokes. "Now with less chance of killing your family," "This year's Note 8 boasts a faster processor, more RAM, and a fire extinguisher."

Nope. No chance the Note brand survives. Nada.
Disagree....time will tell. People have short memories and this will fade by next year.

Quoting this for next year.....
Yeah let's see what happens next year when he is wrong. My thoughts are he has a short memory and will forget he ever said that.

Not as short a memory as Sammy will have for the Note brand. ;)

If I was forced to wager, I'd also guess that Samsung will be rebranding the Note line. For whatever value the 'Note' name carried in the past, right now and going forward, it's simply known as the 'exploding phone.' And next year, when they release its sequel, it would perpetually be discussed as the follow up to 'the exploding phone'. I just think the cost to try to repair the Note brand's image might be too expensive. Better to leave it completely in the rear view and start fresh with a new name.

People will be saying "the exploding phone" about any Samsung phone, just look at the post in this forum.
Changing the name could happen but I think it's unlikely, it's definitely not a sure thing.

Note is synonymous with pen use, Samsung spends billions each year on marketing their products. I just can't see how they'll drop it like a hot potato over something that will be sorted in a month or two, well, maybe not in the USA, the feds may drag things out a bit. Maybe a name change in the U.S could happen? Who knows.

I'm putting my money on a Note 8 next year, or a Note X seeing there has already been a Note 8.

How do you manage iMessages while doing this? I feel like you would miss a ton of messages when switching over to android. Or do you have to de-activate iMessage from your number each time?
I have two separate phone numbers and my friends and family and other contacts just send texts to just one number. The iPhone SE one. Only my husband texts me on the second (Samsung) line if he knows I'm carrying it.

If I ever were to make my S7 a daily driver I'd put the sim from the iPhone SE into it.

I'm beginning to think that will never happen because the S7 burned my leg today. Somehow, I have no idea how, the flashlight was left on and I failed to notice it, which caused the whole phone to heat. I stuck it in my pocket and felt a burning sting on my leg and realized the phone was super hot. Hurt like hell but caused no harm. The led wasn't too terribly hot but the phone itself was hot. I am sure I am at fault somehow. I used the flashlight earlier but thought for sure I turned it off. I have no idea how I failed to notice it being left on when I took it from a dim room and put it in my pocket. i think I could like S7s in general but this one and I don't seem to be getting along. It gets hot a lot. The Note 7 that was supposed to be the fire hazard was always cool except for the time I tried to play Neko Atsume on it. Then it got alarmingly hot. My iPad sometimes starts getting super hot when I'm on this forum. I don't understand these things. :(

Yeah, that happens to me all the time. Not sure how, but when that happens on my iPhone it doesn't really sting, it does get warm though.

Yeah, didn't think you know about such an issue. Shocker.

Sure, but a class action lawsuit wasn't required to fight for a resolution to this "mess."

Going forward, troll smarter, not harder. We're done here. On your way now.

You think there will be a class action for the exploding note 7 "mess"?

Coming from someone that called this entire mess "click bait", that's rich.

Note 7 sales to resume early October...

Replacement being issued as of next week.

No one is banned from flying with a Note, it just has to be off.

They're not stopping making Notes, why would they?

Samsung made the phablet category popular, they're not going to give up the Note name, that would be madness, on a marketing level.

The expediency in sorting the issue will be the deciding factor for a lot of people, current Note users are generally happy with how things are playing out from what I've seen.

I hAvent seen much about the Note in the mainstream media apart from the FAA suggestions.

Some people will be receiving their replacements before some iPhone 7 owners will receive their preorders.

Is that not a quick solution?

Of course, the U.S might be a bit different if the govt get involved and red tape the issue but the rest of the world will be fine.

If course this is all my opinion and I could be totally wrong, but there will be a Note 8 imo...

Actually we still don't know if replacements will go
Out next week or sales will begin in October. Now that the cpsc is in involved it's up to them. You should stop making things up.

"CPSC is working quickly to determine whether a replacement Galaxy Note7 is an acceptable remedy for Samsung or their phone carriers to provide to consumers," the agency said.

In a statement today, Samsung asked owners of the smartphones to exchange them for a loaner phone as it hammers out the terms of the recall.

"New Note7 replacement devices will be issued to exchange program participants upon completion of the CPSC process. In the interim, consumers can return their Note7 for another device," said Tim Baxter, the president of Samsung Electronics America.

Klyster thinks he knows more than Tim Baxter, smh.

Oh and btw PIA has banned the note 7, not just the use or charging but the device itself on board it's aircrafts. That's the first known airline.

I don't know, I think the Note brand is too well established and too important to Samsung at this point. With the S Pen making it a really unique series of devices and all. My guess is they'll keep it alive and instead spend their PR dollars on a major drive to show the world that they've seriously improved their QC standards. That way, in the long run, they might actually be able to turn this negative into a positive for their whole mobile business. Which would be a win for us all. At least one can hope...

The danger is if they decide to not bother relaunching the Note 7 in some territories (other than soft/limited launch to fix existing handsets), and this more so in Europe, that would essentially be two generations of the device missed / messed up. I don't think after two missed years of real presence, the 'note' name would be held in any special regard.

As it is, we're all just hypothesising and no-one really knows what 'will' happen.

Just I can see equal merit in both eventualities playing out. We will see in time.

I predicted a few days ago we would see someone harmed before this was resolved and that's now materialised and from a PR perspective a child being harmed is far worse (whether right or wrong) than an adult.

The CPCS is in the U.S.
There's a whole world outside of the U.S.

"Sydney, Australia – September 9, 2016 – Samsung Electronics Australia can confirm replacement stock of the Galaxy Note7 smartphone will be available to customers in Australia from September 21"

Sorry for name calling. I've put you on the ignore list so don't worry, won't happen again.

You did do that.
After the child being harmed, I don't believe the note brand can recover from this. I think you are spot on with your prediction that Samsung will release an s8 variant with a stylus.

I have only ever had my stainless steel Apple Watch get hot enough to burn skin. It's happened no more than a handful of times and is the reason I'm not so keen on "wireless" charging. My S7 is being charged through its USB port. It got hot enough to really smart on my leg through denim. Again, if I left the led light on that long and didn't notice, that's on me. But overall on other situations it's gotten uncomfortably hot.

When I return it to AT&T I'm going to definitely tell them about it. I don't think it should be given another customer if there's something wrong with it. But if that's normal for this model to frequently run very hot, I would like to know because it's my preference to NOT have a device that does this and I'll strike the S7 from consideration altogether if I can't or decide I shouldn't get a Note 7 back at all.

Sure, the issue of the child being harmed is of course a major issue. But I'm a strong believer in the power of brand identity, and they could deflect even this huge stain on the Note series' record if they really know what they're doing. They might for example blame battery tech itself rather than the Note 7 as such, and then influence the general public through using the force Obi-Wan style by coming up with a "new" charging tech for next year which would make all the competitors' batteries look dangerous.

I do think the Note line is still a major asset to them, and they could protect it if they really go full confidence into maintaining the brand. So yes, like you say they do need to not let it fizzle out through a half-assed continuation of the launch. And still my hunch is that they'll stick with it - just look at the success they were having with that launch before those batteries began popping. That's too much to just flush down the toilet IMO.

I'm not saying this is what WILL happen and of course it's all speculation... But if I had to bet money on it, the above route is the one I'd say they'll take. It's the one I hope they take too. The mobile world would certainly be a whole lot more dull without the Note.

The mobile world would certainly be a whole lot more dull without the Note.

But relaunching it as the S8 Stylus or S8-Pen etc, means that the world wouldn't be without a Note device, merely the 'Note' name ....

No-one is suggesting an end to a Samsung S-Pen device, merely the 'note' name.

This would also potentially free up later half of the year for that 'folding' device they are rumoured working on.

There's too much baggage now with the Note name. It's linked to exploding phones. Any future Note will have that reference. Samsung is not going to put the launch of a major 2017 device in that kind of position. So they could spend even more time and money trying to rehabilitate the Note brand in *addition* to the billions they're already going to spend or they can simply create a new brand. Note was always a niche device, it's not like they'd need to reinvent an iPhone-level recognized line.

My Note7 has been returned and I'm using a beater Windows phone until my 7+ arrives on Friday. It was a very quick return process at Best Buy as I bought the phone outright and didn't have to mess with contract resets, etc. They also took back the Galaxy VR I had purchased without question. As a prepaid-plan, outright phone buyer, the resale value of this phone is going to plummet even more than usual and that tipped the scales for me in terms of keeping versus returning.

This issue will fire up the anti-android trolls for a long time, Samsung thread were already bad enough as it is now they will be really bad

I've noticed my S7 runs hot too, I even tried to swap it but was told that's normal. My S7 Edge nor my Note 7 ran this hot. It's not hot enough to burn, but can get uncomfortable.

I just got the shipping notice for my free Gear Fit 2 so even though I had to downgrade to an S7 edge at least I'm still getting my gift from Samsung.

After a few days with the S7 edge I can say it's a great phone, not quite as amazing as the Note 7, but I'll enjoy it until next year. I went from an LG G4 to the Note 7 to the S7 edge. So basically I still ended up with a good upgrade.

Lol, you still haven't taken a break from your End Of The World Campaign? Oh, just wanna ask, you got any campaigns running on Error 53 and Touch Disease? Although not deadly, but still gives the same end result, an unusable device. Oh, but no recall to help the owner.
These are completely different situations and warrant different media coverage (not saying that media still isn't overall pro Apple). But in apples case I have some defective phone issues which cannot physically harm a person. On Samsung case you have a potential to get physically hurt. You don't think that's different however small the chance might be that your note explode or melt or whatever happens with the battery?

Those doubting that Samsung will be hurt from this respectfully don't understand how the average consumer thinks or responds to this type of media coverage. I'm not saying they're dead in the water but I do think there's a good potential for a rebranding next year of the Note line or maybe even skipping a year and then a rebrand the next year. This is a major issue and it's looking to get worse if the media keeps up on it and defects continue to occur. Not sure what % of sales the Note line makes up but I assume the S series are their bread and butter so I don't think this is going to bury them but it sure as heck MAJORLY affects consumer mindshare

Yikes...this is normal? Oh goodness. The funny thing is the Note 7 recall itself did not faze me at all. I figured they would fix it and give me back my beautiful amazing blue phone and we would live happily ever after...well at least until Note8. It was awesome while I had it.

It's this hot potato S7 that's souring me against Samsung. It's been a right brat. It's a shame because I'm terms of appearance and size and now it works so nicely with its Smart Cover, it could have charmed me away from iPhones, easily. But even in the winter I don't want a pocket warmer.

I did discover if my prints don't register several times in a row, it counts thirty seconds before letting me try again. At first I thought it was a three strikes and I'm out, but then it seemed more strikes another time. I'm mystified. That must be a "feature". If it's a security feature I can't see the point of it. Note 7 did that to me once, too, don't think it's s glitch.

I used the iris scanner a lot on the Note 7. I have anti-reflective coating on my glasses so that may be why it worked well for me and not a reviewer who wears glasses. I miss it.
