Yeah I wish they make it clearer visually you can select which apps to restore, often you press next forgetting to hit the drop down menu which allows you to then check/uncheck the apps. Still if you know to look out for it it's handy alright.
How does it work in marshmallow the restoring of a new device? How do I back it up than set it up on the new device to bring the apps and features from the previous device to the new one? Not sure how to do it would appreciate if your can let me know thanx.

I know it's not the same thing, but Samsung sync preserved all my app data, accounts, passwords, settings, etc. If it's an option I highly recommend it. Of course if you are replacing a phone that was lost or damaged it may not be possible.
Samsung sync? Is that an app or a service?

You have a download link?

Thanks!

It's an app you can download. I believe it's on the app store but I forget, it may be on samsungs app store. Do a search for it. It's called Samsung Smart Switch
Yeah, I remember Samsung smart switch, but I didn't know it could restore app data like iTunes does for iOS.

And i just got the green battery bar update.

Setting up my replacement N7 right now and, maybe it's placebo, but it feels ...snappier ...more fluid and I'm actually liking the lag-free Samsung keyboard !

It only restores data on some things, King games, for example, require me to log in to restore where I'm up to. Core apps seem to be restored though.
Could just be me though.....

My 7 done it through the night also. Software update meant that my alarm didn't go off though as the phone was asking for its pin after powering backup. Fortunately the Mrs' S7 Edge alarm went off 5 mins later.

Well there was some sort of software update my phone did overnight, and now the battery icon etc. is green like they said it would be on the replacement devices.

I don't mean to sound like I don't like the ip7+, no I love it. But I loved the N7 as well. I can't be happy unless some mad scientist combines them both.
I agree so much. So does my husband. Some mad scientist needs to take the best of the Note 7 and the best of the IPhones and combine them!

For me, it's the differences between the cameras driving me nuts. Samsung Note 7 camera is good enough on stills that it could be my only camera if I could have only one device. But for video, when I pan, there is some jerkiness. It's a bit nauseating and ruins a good video. My iPhone 6s Plus pans smoothly, but there's a lot of noise and darkness in indoor lighting compared to the Samsung video in the same light.

Audio...slight tinny sound and echoing effect with Samsung video taken in my house and outside it picks up a lot of the sound of air blowing over the mic. For iPhone, I notice much better noise cancellation and voices sound richer.

Gah!

And now on iPhone I guess there's that lens flare problem to consider. I get a little discouraged every time I read the negatives about the iPhone 7 because I really want it to be great. I want the Samsungs to be great.

You'd think if they see one or two areas where the other company got something just right, they would endeavor to bring theirs up to par in that area. Instead it's like their strengths and weaknesses complement each other so you kind of need to use both to get the perfect all around experience. Which is sort of what I'm doing.

I did enjoy working a bit on a sketch using my Note 7 and an app I bought. But there is quite a learning curve to it.

That happened to my husband once on a Windows phone and he missed an important meeting. He went with iPhone that very day. I still set my alarms on my SE, rather than my Samsung because I'm so new to this and the element of trust isn't there yet...and I guess for good reason...my Samsung did the same thing yours did! I woke up when it did that and entered my pin. I wake easily most of the time. If the alarm had been set on my Samsung, my alarm would not have gone off either and I'd have had a mad scramble this morning to get lunches made. Or not...my body seems to have its own alarm clock, too. But it can go off by as much as 15 minutes if I'm sick or overtired.

My husband's Note 7 got the update pushed to his phone a couple of hours before mine got it.

Where is a mad scientist when we need one?!?! I like both cameras, I still find the iPhone to have superior low light pictures, which is what I've always found with them. The iPhone also has less blur due to movement and is much better when zooming in on tiny stuff. Certainly they aren't significant differences, not enough to not want either phone by a long shot. What's the lens flare issue? I'll have to read up on that.

But really the negatives with the iPhone are virtually all software. My only gripe on hardware are the overly large top/bottom bezels, otherwise I'm very happy with the hardware. Software Apple continues to play their "so simple it's complicated" song that just annoys me to the bone. I spent the last 2 days futzing around with pseudo file managers and iTunes just to get some audiobooks onto my iPhone, I was amazed at how complicated it was when it's supposed to be so simple and "just work" iOS to me just seems like a work in progress, which is interesting because Android gets that label so often. But Android feels much more finished. Simple stuff like having a logical settings menu, being able to shortcut settings to a launcher, having a file system, having true actionable widgets, etc. Even carplay feels half baked, the bugs and errors I'm having with it should be embarrassing to Apple. Siri is also horrendous, no improvement since last I used her a couple of years ago. Horrible voice recognition, and when she recognizes her answers are less than useful. God forbid you even have a slight accent, she won't understand my wife at all. Don't even get me started on iTunes, how GARBAGE like that exists in 2016 I'll never know, and to be forced to use it adds insult to injury.

But the positives are many, and as I stated outweigh the negatives, for now. It's funny when I have an Android phone I feel like Apple's peer pressure draws me back, that's the power of their label. But when I have an iPhone I feel like Android's functionality pulls me back.

Yeah, I'm noticing that too, but it has to be a placebo, right?
Not really faster, but feels more fluid.

My fingerprint sensor on the replacement is excellent. The sensor on my first Note 7 was as bad, if not worse than the one on my IPhone 5s. It rarely worked so I used the iris scanner.

My original Note 7 was almost always cool. The new one warms up a lot, but I can clearly discern that it's working when it does, and it hasn't gotten hot like my temporary S7 did. It also fast charges extremely fast. The original Note 7 seemed to "fast charge" much slower.

Again there was a variance in display between my New Note 7 and my husband's. This time I got one with a slight Aqua hue and slightly less crisp text. But hubby kindly traded so I'm back on a warmer display. This time the Aqua display wasn't as noticeably Aqua nor as murky as the original it replaced. Both new Note 7s have excellent displays.

So in a way, we got lucky there was a recall because we seem to have gotten better quality devices.

So far, with today's relatively heavy use, the replacement battery seems to be lasting longer. I've hit the phone hard (mostly with the addictive CSR2) today and still showing 37%.

I just got the new t-mobile update and I can confirm the phone is flying now. I was ready to throw it out the window with the lag but its really improved the over all speed of the phone. Impressive. BY the way Im still on the bad battery version. Fighting with Samsung for a replacement.

I'm happy to hear the good feedback. My Vodafone order still stands, so hopefully they do continue to restock it. If they don't I'll keep an eye on prices at eGlobalCentral and pick up a dual sim one from there. What I do like about Samsung devices is the ability to flash official firmware easily via ODIN so you can buy a Hong Kong model cheaper and flash European official unbranded Samsung firmware very painlessly...

Still no interest in the new iPhone 7+?

With my 6S not really. Honestly feels for as much benefit as I would gain from the 7, there is as much I would compromise on. The nail on the coffin desire wise was the increase in price this year. €880 or €1020 for 128 7/7+ is just so much to justify. Even if I sold my 64gb 6S for €400-450, the additional difference I would have to pay for the 7 or 7+ would actually buy an android flagships outright after a couple of weeks and I wouldn't have to sell anything to do so. Indeed I'd likely pick up the Note 7 for the €550 additional difference from likes of eglobalcentral by December.

So yeah, unless I got a very cheap upgrade price and someone offered me a very good price for my 6S - I have absolutely no temptation to buy one currently.

Not gonna lie...even with a brand new iPhone 7 Plus in my hands...gettin' that itch...

I just found out last night that the Verizon model (and probably others) has root with the latest update. THe previous root was a Sprint developer edition that you had to load onto the phone. But with the latest root you are left with the latest build from Verizon. That definitely changes my outlook a bit.

Do you mean it has the ability to gain root access ? In what way does it change your outlook ?

+1 on MRU's question..?

Put another way: TELL ME WHY I NEED TO RUN OUT AND BUY ANOTHER PHONE BECAUSE I REALLY WANT TO RUN OUT AND BUY ANOTHER PHONE!
