For those who haven't yet tried Good Lock, I say give it a go. It's Samsung's own custom lock screen. Not for everyone, but worth a try. It keeps getting updates from the user base feedback.

Getting back on topic. Samsung cloud really impressed me, totally restored everything I had from my old Note 7, settings, apps, app settings, launcher setup, widgets, etc.

I promised I would do a side by side for reception in my house, where I've always had some issues.

1st floor: iPhone was -114 dbm/ 2 asu, Note 7 was -98 dbm/asu
1st floor near windows: iPhone was -105 dbm/2 asu, Note 7 was -94dbm/2 asu
Sunny room where I get terrible reception: iPhone was -115dbm/2asu, Note 7 was -101dbm/1asu
2nd floor: 3 bedrooms facing main street: iPhone was -99dbm/3asu, Note 7 was -91dbm/2asu
2nd floor: other 3 bedrooms facing backyard: iPhone was -99dbm/3asu, Note 7 was -89dbm/4asu

Seems like on paper the Note has better reception, but in practice I've noticed dropped calls with the Note, but haven't had a single dropped call on the iPhone yet. I'm hoping that Note 7 was a dud and this one performs better. It's also interesting to note you can't really trust signal bars and just comparing them from phone to phone, as you don't know how they measure specifically.

File systems are great.
Being able to move stuff to external storage is great.
Knowing where my pdf files are stored isn't a bad thing.
Moving gigabytes of photos and videos you want to is great too.
Being able to make a copy of a file is great too.

Imagine a laptop/desktop is with no file system...
Different tool, different requirements. So kinda irrelevant

Until you hit a dead end. I spent some time trying to figure out how to get custom audiobooks into certain apps on my iPhone. After much research the easiest way was to download iTunes, then download my audiobooks from OneDrive to my local PC. Then I had to load the audiobooks into iTunes, then I had to change their properties so iTunes would see them as audiobooks. Then I had to sync my PC to my iPhone. On an Android I would simply go into my OneDrive app and it would let me open it with any compatible app. Works nicely with an external SD card as well, oh wait... Also for the record the icloud app is horrible, but that's what everyone is told to use.

I can't pretend I understand the "I see no need for it because I don't use it" comments, but I guess these are forums after all.
You seem kinda touchy about people that a different take on features, passive insults and all :)
I have never heard of someone storing and transferring Audiobooks in the manner you do. I'm sure there is a reason and I'm equally sure you will tell us.

Not different tools at all, they are both computers. Once again though those are my needs, they don't sound like your needs and that's ok. But don't discount the needs of others. I'm not touchy at all, if anything your comment was the one which was initially directed towards someone with a different take on features, snide insults and all.

As for my audiobooks, can you tell me how to upload my custom audiobook files directly from OneDrive to my iPhone so a 3rd party audiobook app can open it? OK that's what I thought, if you don't know the answer, or if you have never encountered the issue then it doesn't seem you have the experience to judge me. There is a reason, and I did already explain it. Not having a file system is a pita for the way I use my devices.

Very much a pattern in this thread where anytime positive things are said of the Note, somebody needs throw in a comment to negate that post in some way. Hilarious part is, these posters don't even have a Note and voice no intentions to even get one. And their post adds nothing to the conversation. Then when you call them out, its the usual response from them, "grow up", "how mature", "You seem touchy," and so on. Like i said, nothing to add.

I have the main culprits (they know who they are) on ignore now.
Makes the continuity of the thread a little confusing but now I don't have to read the crap they post.

Just do put them on ignore (wish I'd discovered it earlier), they'll get sick of not getting the responses they're obviously fishing for and hopefully crawl back to where ever they have something useful to add.
Trolling in the guise of free opinion but always the same snarky crap and insinuations of dishonesty on others opinions.

Having a file manager definitely comes in handy, though I dont need to use it much. I do prefer icloud drive on the iPhone since it has all of my files, but I wish the iPhone acted a little more like a computer in that area, so when you open a file you could open it in the app of your choice. Right now you get a limited app set and most of the apps in the available menu treat it either like a file or text document, which isn't helpful with any type of media file.

Wish i could again merge the two options, where you can store and sync all your files in the cloud like icloud, but also all apps would have a way to navigate and read those files like on android.

I havent gone in to check the dBm ratings, but I can say it feels lile my iPhone has better reception in my house over my Note 7, I do live in a very low signal area, I'm generally between no bars and 2 bars. Wifi calling is also more consistent on my iPhone, but I dont have the handoff issue when i leave the house with either phone, I did when i had T-Mobile though.

You mean much how on this sub fora if anyone posts a criticism of anything android and specifically Samsung, instead of discussing that criticism on its own merit/worth, it is immediately met with a slagging of Apple despite any relevance or specifically the lack of.

As bad as the zealous Samsung haters can be, the same also applies oppositely with the zealous Apple haters.

Those in glass houses ...

Re: file manager.

I rarely use it myself, i don't begrudge others who need it though. I don't believe
@tbayrgs was actually doing that either.

It's much like many of the stock apps on our phones like S-health on a Samsung phone or 'stocks' on an iPhone. I have never used stocks at all and never will, but I realise there are people who use it.

File system wise on Android is probably more of a necessity simply because of SD Card support. The only time i have ever used file management it involved moving files from one storage to another (or cleaning up the folder remnants from icon packs or launchers). For me then i see it more of a maintainence thing on my own androids, something i don't have to do on other devices because of their locked system and single storage.

Bringing files in externally to my devices (without using syncing cable with computer) I've always used cloud or wireless options and never really had need specifically to browse file system for that.

However clearly everyone's pattern of usage is very different and what works perfectly for one is not representative of all.

Does rooting your device mean you have lost OTA updates and does the rooting not trip Knox flag leaving device warranty void ?

Handsets getting warms isn't a new thing surely? My Note 7 (Replacement and original) does get warm when playing games on it. Warm, not hot.

My iPhone 6 which I got at its launch also got warm when playing the same or similarly intensive games. As did my wife's iPhone 6, her current S7 Edge and my brothers iPhone 6S+.

Yeah anyone with a Moto x pure/style or Blackberry Priv can testify to how warm a device can get.

Of course there is a big difference between getting very warm and over heating.

Once it gets to the point it causes physical harm or shuts itself down or restarting itself in a boot loop then at that point I think it does become overheating issue.

The S6 Edge I had last year (and had issues getting replaced) would get so hot when charging it was alarming and even during use it would get so warm it would either randomly restart or shut itself down and you wouldn't be ale to turn it on for hours .. that clearly was overheating.

But like I say I also had the blackberry Priv and that was the warmest handset (nay hottest) I have ever used that wasn't actually overheating but was at times physically uncomfortable to use because of it. Which symptom wise almost renders it as bad but technically isn't overheating.

So there is a line between overheating and just getting warm or in some cases hot.

But it's when you put the Note 7 recall into context that you can then empathise or understand why some might think their device is overheating when it gets warm. Heck an hour of Gear VR would send my S7 edge into ez-bake territory :)

But these new reports are merely that at the moment. Reports - we don't know the facts behind them or the symptoms or affects the devices were suffering from or exhibiting. So whilst we can't assume they are because of overheating, we can't dismiss them as they were not either.

You have to play devils advocate and sit on the fence on this one and wait to see if it blows over or if there is any swell to follow.

Yeah that's the impression I got as well, which is why the Note 7's better dbm values confuse me. Maybe the iPhone just holds onto that signal better.

Yes I've lost OTA updating, mainly because the newer PHE update with the green battery icon breaks root, but if/when they figure that out then I can update. This root does not trip Knox, although that doesn't concern me much as I'll let Verizon do the warranty work, and I'll be getting squaretrade on it as well. One of the negatives of going to the Note 7 is Samsung as the warranter so I'll try to bypass that as much as I can.

But I'm not sure if I'll even bother keeping the root. Of course it's a security concern, but it also brings along its own bugs and such. Although I must say it's pretty smooth and I've only had 1 small issue that I hope to work out today.

Yeah sadly here even the carriers essentially deal with Samsung's third party repair crowd, and they always check rooting or Knox flag triggers before they do anything to repair your device, so I've always avoided rooting my own Samsung devices because of that. Didn't realise you can now root without tripping, that's a good improvement.

With European devices (F variants) If you have a carrier handset you want to debloat you can just simply use Odin and flash official Samsung unbranded firmware and keep everything official and avoid tripping anything. I rarely buy carrier handsets, but it works with buying a handset outside of your own region too (so you can flash U.K./Ireland firmware over a HongKong variant and remain official).

For me that way of debloating offers me a safer option that rooting, although clearly those who root are often running more modified things than just debloating (such as the xposed framework mods you have yourself.)

Keep us posted on it and how your getting on anyway :)

My Note hasn't even got warm.
Hopefully it stays that way.
The issue seems to be more wishful thinking around here imo...
Just did a search for iPhone 7 overheating and slap me ragged, what did I find? You guessed it, cases of iPhone 7's over heating, quick everybody panic!
All the Note 7 customers who got their replacements are living their lives peacefully.Meanwhile Apple fans are desperately scanning the horizon/searching for every minor fire issue to blame it on Note 7

Welp I might be back in the Note 7 gang. Checked att.com this morning and was able to order a device online for store pickup so we'll see if the order goes thru. Takin the iPhone 7+ back later today so hopefully walk out with the Note

Good luck, I went yesterday and they refused to sell me one. I have to send my iPhone 7+ back to the shipping center for online orders and wait for my account to clear then I can get one. :/ They weren't selling them yet he said, only replacements. They would have taken the iPhone back but they wanted $45 restocking fee. I called AT&T and they said no need for that so I am returning it back online.

This is so spot on. The dumbest thing is reading Samsung guys continually pretend as though the global recall of a device was this hyped up non-story created by Apple fans. You know, it was Apple fanboys who forced the FAA to ban its use during flights.

That and the use of the word "troll". If you disagree with them, or have the audacity to discuss the recall = troll.

Again, my opinion is no advocacy for their omission or removal from mobile OS, nor diminishing its value for many, just commenting that I have built a workflow that doesn't require it. Your specific need exemplifies where having access to a file system is clearly a benefit.

FWIW in regards to your specific issue--I previously uploaded a handful of audiobooks to Google Play Music which allowed me to stream/download for offline listening on any device. Would that have worked?

I won't keep it because now everyone knows it's an issue and people won't buy it. Resale is going to be hurt on these phones because of it.

Did u happen to place your order online and then go into the store for pickup? I bought the phone full price so no AT&T Next and bought my iPhone at the Apple Store. My order went thru this morning but as of now is still "in process". I called the store and can't get ahold of anyone so I'm having my doubts now. Have to go to the mall today anyway to return my iPhone so I guess I'll just stop in and play dumb and show them the online order. Worse case I continue to use my 6S+

I placed it online and it was sent to my house. I got it through AT&T since we don't have a apple store within 200 miles.
