Hey, do you guys on the Note 7 on Verizon get a LTE icon? I'm only getting a 4G icon, the 4g with arrows under it to the left of the signal bars. I totally forgot if my old Note 7 had a LTE icon. I called Verizon and the tech said the Note 7 didn't have a LTE icon at all, but that sounds really screwy.
Glowing review from mkbhd.
Glowing review from mkbhd.
He did say there was considerable lag at times, The mono speaker was mediocre, and battery life wasn't up to par.
He tries to make concessions whenever he can, that he was a power user and like the display at full brightness which gave him a 3 hour sot; water resistance was the reason the speaker were terrible; while the lag was considerable it only happened occasionally "when waking up the phone"
He also mentioned the battery exploding problem with the note 7.
He did like the camera the display and grace ux. That's pretty much the same as the s7 edge without the os refinements, display is just like the note 5, curved slightly.
ok....Why does everyone want to ding a positive review from one of the best know reviewers out there.MKBHD was always going to be glowing. The Note series has always been his main driver for the last number of years. (For clarity .... this is not a criticism, or saying his review was biased, just if you follow MKBHD you would be surprised if his review had said anything otherwise).
My only thing I was surprised in the review about was that he was only getting just over 3 hours SOT ..... ? That doesn't seem great or on par with what others have reported ?
Same here. Infact my 7+ has more lag than my Note 7 does. I agree the battery life on my 7+ is so much better. The speakers on the 7+ are better but there is a LOT of vibration on the back. The software update from T-Mobile really made a world of difference on the Note 7 for me. It is night and day as far as user experience goes.I haven't had any lag whatsoever on mine, but on my first one it lagged terribly. What I expect is the lag will return on mine after a couple of weeks or months of use, that's been the MO for all the Samsung phones I've owned. The mono speaker is subpar, the iPhone sounded much nicer. Battery life cannot compare to the 7+, the 7+ was just amazing and I'll miss that.

He said he got 3 hours SOT because he keeps the N7 at full brightness and he was a power user.
I was getting 5 to 6 hours SOT with the recalled Note 7. But my replacement Note 7 with the T-Mobile software update I am getting 6 and sometime 6.5 hours SOT. It is one of the fastest responsive phones i have ever had. That software update made all the difference. I didn't know he used a Note as his daily driver. I thought he preferred Nexus phones. I thought he said so in one of his reviews?

Agreed...then to be honest the display is much better on the Note 7 than the 7+ in side by side comparison.Just to add, 3 hours SOT with full brightness on the Note 7 is pretty darn good. Seriously, if you have not witnessed how bright the Note 7 gets with your own eyes you won't understand this. Think about people who need their phones outside in direct sunlight. All the battery time in the world ain't going to help you if you can't see your phone screen. Part of my point is that most people will be quite happy with the Note 7 at 25% or so brightness, but it's nice to know that full brightness will still get you decent battery life.
The note 7 definitely is too bright at times...so in the early mornings and at night I keep the blue light filter on with about 30 percent brightness due to the sometimes overwhelming yet outstanding brightness. Otherwise I'm usually on 60-70 percent brightness with no blue light filter. My battery lasts all day and I can usually head to bed with about 35 percent battery life.Just to add, 3 hours SOT with full brightness on the Note 7 is pretty darn good. .
You are still lighting the same amount of pixels. The only difference it will make is on CPU and GPU in more extensive rendering such as games.Regarding battery life on the Note7 vs iphone7+, why not reduce the screen resolution on the Note7 in battery settings for a "fair" comparison.
Read my post again it wasn't a ding. Just i would have been shocked had he not liked it. The Note series has been MKBHD's main love phone wise for a long time ... That is not a criticism it's an observation.
And yes I was surprised 3 hours because his previous Note reviews he was getting longer battery when he did his average SOT, but then we don't know if his personal pattern of use has changed since earlier Notes.
Again folks can we stop assuming every post is an attack, rather jist accept it's just people talking. It's getting so tiring and laborious having to explain every element of a post just because someone is going to take it up wrong ...
Again i wasn't implying he was, but before i watched the review, i knew he would like it. That's all.His review seemed even handed, I didn't sense any particular favoritism in it at all. I don't think anyone can be 100% impartial though, especially with something like phones which tie in so heavily with our emotions.
Does he usually check SOT at full brightness?
Well as others have pointed out 3 hours SOT at full brightness is pretty good to be honest. Then frankly if all one points out is negative things from a review.....everyone else assumes that is what they have to say about it. Some here have been very critical of Samsung for a long time. I agree that it does get tiresome......some that do not want to own a Samsung phone...have no desire to own a Note 7 only post here to point out negative things. LOL....it will never end....I am sitting here at my desk at home with both N7 and 7+ side by side. They follow me everywhere I go!OK so why am I still pocketing both the 7+ AND the Note 7 to work every day?!? When will the sickness end? I'm still not 100% decided, so far it's 65% Note 7, 34% 7+, or 1% ditch all phones and live off the grid.

I think we have to realize that a brighter screen is going to eat more battery, youjust can't get around that. So the results don't surprise me. I'd be more interested if he standardized his battery testing by always having the phone at a specific brightness. Just having them at full brightness doesn't really sound all that scientific.

The fact that screen brightness has actually increased year on year as well would mean full brightness now, is a lot brighter than the Note 5, which was brighter than the Note 4 and so forth, etc... So yeah as a metric per se it's not scientific at all. TBH I'm surprised he could use his phone at full brightness, the S7 and my previous S7e outside of using it in the sunshine is way too bright to be left at full indoors.
On the 7+ I've already experienced the an occasional freezing app and crash. Also, occasional buggy/laggy experience when switching from landscape and portrait, especially if I'm on the recent apps screen. Haven't experienced a frozen app or crash yet on the Note 7.
SOT is actually better on my N7 vs my 7+, but the 7+ wins hands down when it comes to stand-by life, as iOS devices always have.
I agree with the vibration from the speaker when volume is set near max. Definitely sucks when gaming since I feel it in my thumbs. But the speaker is still much better than the N7 to the point I rarely need to put the volume near max on a game or watching a video.
