I must say I believe I've been wrong about the Note 7 speaker. I've been using it extensively today as I've had some business calls which put me on hold for long periods. It's very decent, no real issues with it. There is a setting for extra volume, but with that I started to notice some distortion and don't think I would use it. Also there was a tiny bit of distortion with some higher voice frequencies.

I was expecting to see some promos to kick start the re-release, but so far not really seeing anything in Canada.

I remember someone was complaining about slow switching from wifi to mobile data. You can try this option in developer settings ...

Well I picked up a Note 7 post recall version and a Galaxy S7 Edge tonight from someone I know. They went back to iphones and got a great deal. Each came with several cases and even the fast wireless charging stand, I cant wait to test them out tomorrow. I may take the Note with me to Memphis tomorrow

That was probably me, I've tried this setting and it doesn't do squat. Wifi handoff continues to be pretty bad, meaning I have a huge dead spot in my home driveway and work parking lot where I usually check traffic, routes, weather, calls, etc, navigation, etc.

So now that all major phones have been announced this year, I'm happy with my choice of the Note 7. Hardware wise, other than SOC, it's the best out IMO with just about the most complete hardware feature set (only missing ir blaster, removable battery, and stereo speakers) and such a beautiful and futuristic design. Software wise it's actually my favorite out, love how in depth the theme engine is, my material dark theme looks great on this amoled screen.

Is it perfect? No, of course not. The software still needs some optimizations, I wish it had a metal back instead, I wish it used 3d touch for the home/navigation buttons, that it was a black monolith slab like the jet black iphone, the spen hardware feels cheap, and the speaker is only average. But overall, to me, this ended up being the best phone of 2016.

Of the Pixel XL, 7+, it certainly offers the best value budget wise. I'm not sure where the V20 will fall into this, but it seems destined to be niche (i don't think it's launching here at all or many parts if Europe at all).

Tbh, I think it's testament to how anti-climatic the second half of 2016 has been that a device with such a disastrous launch is still the best of a bad situation.

With the N7 relaunch in question here and with the Pixel and iPhone pricing through the roof let alone lack of availability here currently and with no launch date for pixel at all, and the V20 seemingly set on bypassing too, it's a really underwhelming crappy end to the year for a normally excessive & impulsive phoneaholic like me :( :(

It's definitely been a strange year for phones and well, all around. Here in the US our presidential race has never been odder. I've seen some weird things politically in my 50 years, but this presidential race tops them all. And we started off the year here in the US with so many beloved famous people from various fields (mostly entertainment and music) die off like some weird celebrity mass extinction event is taking place.

So when the IPhones debuted with enough serious flaws to impede function, enough of them that I've sat out the launch well past the time I needed to finish pouting over the loss of the headphone jack, I can only shrug and accept it all as part of the big ball of face palm that is 2016.

Oh well, at least I did get to welcome three beautiful babies into the family--two great nieces and a great-nephew. :D

So a replacement safe Note 7 caused a plane in the USA to be evacuated after it began smoking ...

The replacement device was a green battery black square replacement from AT&T

https://www.engadget.com/2016/10/05/replacement-samsung-galaxy-note-7-smoking-southwest-flight/

So this is about a fortnight after being replaced and it was about a fortnight before first issues began arising. I hope to god this does not follow a similar pattern ...

Ugh, just when I thought this story was dying down.
What the heck Samsung, how hard is it to not make an exploding phone?

I know. It's like a kick in the ribs every time a new one is reported as I know with every new report, the chances of actually getting the N7 here is depleted further and it becomes even more remote and even hard to get even from the usual importers too.

EGlobal have removed it completely and no sign of it returning yet either :(

Let's just hope it's a one off, but I fear it may not be ....

T-Mobile was supposed to start selling the Note 7 again today but so far it hasn't appeared on their website. This phone may go down as the worst phone in history, or the hottest phone in history.
