Note 5's are getting good money here in NZ, used.

I gave mine to my partner, she likes it but it's kinda a waste on her really, the didn't even know it had a pen until I showed her lol. Still, it's a great phone.

If the Note 7 turns out to be dangerous (in the kinda scale that would worry me), I'll get an S7 edge...

In all seriousness: what are you guys gonna do if they issue another recall? Would you try to keep your devices or hand them in?

That's a good question, I'm not sure. I'm kind of stuck, the iPhone kind of sucks technologically for my needs, the Pixel really sucks, and there is nothing really on the market that I feel is worthy of my hard earned money otherwise. I might just go back to the Note 5 at that point, it's still a better phone than any 2016 phone released by far.

There is an early release of the S8 rumored.Samsung knows the Note 7 is out of the running. They will speed up development of the S8.Hopefully they do a better job on it

Yeah that would definitely be a possibility. I'd hate to lose the spen, but I could muddle along until next year and the Note 8 or iPhone 8.

The last thing Samsung needs to do is speed up development of any of their devices at this point--that may have been exactly what did them in with the Note 7.

I'm not a Samsung smartphone customer or fan but if I was, for the sake of the brand, I'd prefer they take a little extra time if it means dotting their i's and crossing their t's in regards to quality control and performance.

You make a great point. I'm not sure I'd want to buy any Samsung product at launch moving forward.

This is the kind of line from Note7 owners that's worrisome. If the company recalls the device, I can see some stragglers out there deciding the risks are worth it. Hopefully if Samsung is forced to take the device off the market, they brick all existing Note7's out in the wild and force owners to exchange or refund.

The original risk was something like 24 per million, or 0.1% according to Samsung. I know some stats wiz ran the numbers and it's still less of a chance than dying in a car accident or choking on food, even if we magnified the numbers. I'm NOT saying it's ok to use the recalled phone, I turned mine in and would turn it in again if a 2nd recall happened. But if there is no 2nd recall I'm not thinking twice about keeping and using the phone. The biggest drag will be if it can't be used on a plane or boat, but I'd usually have my 8" tablet at that point.

Yeah that was me who worked out the stats ... :). Suffice to say based on the current rate of incidents your chances are lower than they were based on the number of those replacement devices reported as faulty.

If Samsung don't do a second recall and it is finally released wider and there is a stem to the tide of reported incidents, I would likely still chance getting one from eBay ...

I'm pretty sure that I won't see it available on retail here now at all, so wherever I had to source one from I would need to make sure it was a 'safe' model if that was even possible buying remotely.

If it's determined to be a replaced Note7 and Sammy doesn't issue a recall, the FAA will likely ban the device entirely from flights regardless.

Yeah I can see that happening with the immense amount of publicity this is getting. If it doesn't get recalled but the FAA bans it I'll be a bit pissed if Verizon doesn't take it back. Sprint and ATT already announced they will exchange even replaced units for any other phone. My last day to take back the Note 7 is Sunday, but I really really want to keep it.

Ugh....if I take it back now, $45 restocking fee. I hope someone says something soon about this note 7 southwest incident.

I'm already past my return period for the replacement phone, plus I really like it, so for now I'm keeping it. Obviously if there is another recall I'll return it. If there isn't but it becomes a somewhat widespread issue, I'm sure I'll be able to convince AT&T to exchange it.

At this point not sure what I would exchange it for. I already have an S7 and that would be my go to device, plus if it's the same rules as before since I got it free with bogo I would have to return it as well. I ended up hating my S7 Edge because of the false touches, so I wouldn't want to go back to that. I already have an iPhone 7 plus on order too, so it wouldn't be for that one either. The HTC 10 isn't available on AT&T. Probably a V20, but would have to handle it first to see if I prefer it over my S7. Or maybe I'll just get a regular iPhone 7 and use 2 iPhones? Tried that once before when I got fed up with android/palm/blackberry/windows phones (this was a couple years ago right after hp cancelled webos), but I quickly got bored of that combo and luckily android got way better.

Not sure how I'd feel about getting another Note 7 if there is another recall, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

I do feel for the guys who want an Android phone as their daily driver right now. I normally carry both OS's, but I"m pretty satisfied with the iPhone 7+ so I can wait out a bit for a decent Android alternative. Pixel doesn't do much for me, LG V20 looks aight. The new Asus Deluxe 3 sounds amazing on paper but I have no idea what their track record is like.

In short: not a great season for Android phones. :(

All the providers have now said they are exchanging the note 7 replacements for other phones.

Wow, any idea how long? It will be nice to know I have some extra time to decide.
[doublepost=1475875255][/doublepost]BTW my lag is back :( In all fairness I am rooted so it may very well be my own fault. I'm playing with it and seeing if I can find an offending app.

Edit: Uninstalled Rootcloak and device seems back to lag free self again. Scary how a single app can affect so much.

Not sure as they didn't say. I read somewhere though Verizon says indefinitely.

Yep. All it takes is one poor programmed app.

I disagree, plenty of great choices for Android this year

Now the only question i have would be if i would have to return everything else I got in the deal (bogo S7, $50 gear classic, free tab s). Last time they said I would have to stick with a samsung if I wanted to keep them, which ment either another S7 (see no point in that), an S7 Edge (prefer the regular S7), or the S7 Active (again prefer the regular, plus i see no point in having bot the regular S7 and the Active version). If thats the case, I'll hold on to my Note 7 for a while longer until the investigation is done.

If I dont have to give anything back, then an LG V20 may be in my future.

If I can keep everything and simply return it, then a Pixel maybe in my future.

There are only 4 Android handsets that interest me, the Note, the S7, the V20, and the Pixel. After the Note, the Pixel would probably be my choice but it's not available on at&t and then it's a toss up between the S7 and V20, with the S7 being water proof and having better software, while the V20 has the larger screen and removable battery, neither of which I feel are as good as the Note 7 or Pixel XL.

If only the Pixel was on at&t, this would be much easier.

The Pixel is way overpriced IMO. Google isn't a premium brand so they can't charge Apple prices. The Nexus line wasn't a huge seller and yet they offered great value for money. Who on earth is going to spend iPhone and Samsung Note money on a Pixel XL? I see them tanking bigtime.

It is indeed a boring Android season, but then I look at iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and realise how dull they still are, and now with an important feature missing, I begin to appreciate the LG V20, Pixel XL and the S7 Edge, real variety, great audio, brilliant cameras, thank goodness for the wide choice we have in Android. :)

The great part is they support BT Headphones, Audio via USB-C, Wireless Fast Charging and STILL keep the 3.5mm jack :D incredible!
